Wonderful performance 👏 by MF, and Lin Biviano plays his heart out on lead trumpet. Most respectfully..Vaughn 🎺
This album was released in India in the year 1986 with the title Super Instinct. Label was Music India iir. Also known as Spanish Wave elsewhere. I had audio tapes of all his India releases. Conversations - with Stephane Grappelli. Super Instinct India 2000 Live in USSR: Fantasy on Vedic Chants Global Fusion
The one thing that I love about Maynard is that his trumpet section is just as intense as he is!!! Maynard definitely makes sure that his trumpet section TOW THE FRICKIN’ LINE!!! 😀👍🎺
I remember being a fan of Al's back in high school in the early 80s and no one else including the band director seemed to even know who he was. I would have loved to have had a cell phone and youtube then to show them all what I was talking about! Thank you for posting this awesome performance!
The trumpet just seems like a toy in Al's big grip. He just played with such energy and so seemingly effortlessly. A natural performer and a prodigy. Thank you for posting this!
An era of great music and not so great hair styles.
Who’s the drummer
Ahhhhh... What is Musicianship?
What is amazing is his sound just got bigger and bigger as he got older. I heard him about a year before he died and it was just insane how massive his sound was. Arturo Sandoval said when he played next to Maynard he felt like he was playing a toy trumpet Maynard's sound was so huge. You will also notice that there are a lot of people can hit the notes he can, but it is the end of the notes and releases and articulations where Maynard is totally unmatched to this day. Everyone has to spend so much time just trying to hit the notes that is where all their focus goes.
I worked for Mr. Hirt in the early 80's. He was a class act then and always. I was a kid trumpet player (early 20's) when I had the pleasure of working with him. Believe you me, I was never so scared to take my trumpet out of its case for our first session. That guy could dust me with 1 valve...who needs three. Bottom line, a first class trumpet player and human being. He taught me how to play that darn piece of brass. Rest in Peace Mr. Hirt.
They must’ve wanted to get Give It One over with as quickly as possible.😳
Welk was such a twit .
Wonderful Wonderful.
Che bellezza 👏👏👏
I've always wondered how Chuck Mangione ever became a thing. Can't play at all.
Chuck had the greatest, smoothest, prettiest flugelhorn tone of all time, by far- like butter, like maple syrup pouring. And he was a great songwriter / composer. He bridged the gap between pop and jazz. Was a really good player too. He respected the melody, and saw himself as a piece of the band I think. Was about the music as a whole, opposed to showing off individually. Long live chuck! Long live Maynard!
And these are the outtakes!
Wow ,, that's some fast double and triple tounging .. his large hands make that horn look like a toy. He's got the large chest cavity size to really compress some volume of air.. fantastic ability, you can tell he loves playing that horn..😄
The trumpet is a super physical instrument to play no matter how you play it. If you routinely push yourself to the limit in one way or another, it’s going to push your relationship with the instrument to evolve and change with your changing body over time. This is a point where Maynard found a new depth in his tone. His shakes were extra, thick and creamy too. Fantastic post!
Quando a música era de verdade!
What a great, precisely aware Band Leader! 🎉😂 Oh. And what a free and high flying Player, at least in terms of a dynamic original timbre, that somehow will never be repeated. ❤
Pretty much the “Body and Soul” instrumentation, although MF had already moved on to the High Voltage format. I think Don H. or another band member commented on another thread that this show was already booked as a “big band” gig before the 10-piece band broke up and HV came to be. Does that sound right?
The host looks high as fuck 😅
Maynard Ferguson dig his thick creamy shakes

Amazing
I can’t believe I found this ! This was the last show of his I ever saw live (and it was a bunch) This made me so emotional! Rip boss man !
I LOVE THE TEMPO!! It seems that Everyone counts everything off too fast, to generate excitement? The excitement comes from the playing, not a"faster tempo." Thank you to all who really heard this!
Wonderful Spirited performance 👏 by MF and his band..The BEBOP BUFFET is exceptional! Most respectfully..Vaughn 🎺
I was actually there at Van Wezel. Freaking funny
Love it. Great era for the band and MF. OTR wasn’t played much during 1977. Glad they have it on this one.
You missed Guitarist JOHN CHIODINI in your personnel list in the Description (@12:25). I hope you’ll “edit” it and add him in. Thanks. PS: Thanks for sharing this great 1978 MF Band Live set.
John must have been added to the roster sometime in that winter tour, i`ve edited him in, thanx for the heads up.
Incredible! BOSS MAN MF !!!!!!

Interesting echo usage on the intro to OTR. Not quite Don Ellis level but not something I remember MF doing.
Beautiful performance 👏 by MF and the band.. with my friend Marco Marcinco driving on drums pure Spirit Vaughn 🎺
Wonderful performance 👏 by MF and the entire band. The late Dusko Goycovich is laying down terrific lead trumpet here as well as soloing. Most respectfully..Vaughn 🎺
The best horn man who ever lived, and there have been some great ones. None better than Mr. Hirt though.
Great 👍
Harry James is The Greatest
51:35 holy smokes! That power... and what a dramatic piano from Christian! Later that tour 91' they played in Hildesheim. I was in the audience , it was an unforgetable experience.
It's weird to see Maynard with a band full of old guys. Usually they were way younger than him.
Just INCREDIBLE! MAYNARD!!
Wonderful performance 👏 All Heart ❤️ Vaughn 🎺
Frightening! Vaughn 🎺
Ahi veo a Stan Mark en la trompeta, también un gran lider trompeta, falleció finalizando el 2022😢
Give It One is so fast it sounds like a joke. Still dunno what he was thinking.
A clarinet solo in Maynard's band? Now I've heard it all!
