    Just passing by... if you'd remove the headliner closed cell foam you'd find condensation under it. There is non on top of it because it is an insulator and the dew point is not reach on the inside of the van where temperature is higher than on the metal surface (which is underneath the headliner). The only real way to prevent condensation on metal is to totally isolate it from the humid air using vapor barriers. If there are any spots at all where humid air will reach the metal, it'll most probably condensate on it.

    People are too focused on insulation. Most important thing is ventilation. There's no condensation issues in a woodshed, plenty condensation in a cheap tent.

    Not a good idea to use the existing battery terminals for the balance lead lugs. The lugs then defeat the point of using the flange nuts which have ridges on the underside to prevent them loosening. A better fixing is to tap the busbars with an M3 thread and use smaller lugs. This is especially relevant with a vehicle where vibration is likely to loosen the nuts. The low torque setting is to protect the battery terminals from stripping so the flange nut underside needs to grip the busbar to to its job.

    I’ll be interested to know your weight. With my just started new Sprinter build I’ll be annoyed if my van exceeds 2600 kgs I’m using all aluminium sheet covered in wrap. Folded aluminium sheet for the studs and drawers etc. the only timber I’m using is the bench tops, 20mm routed underneath where it’s hidden down to 8mm. Remember any timber attracts moisture, that’s where most get it wrong, happy building

  • @stevel1451
    @stevel1451 8 місяців тому

    Wow that’s some serious moisture. The ceiling needs to be vented, I found the best was on my Sprinter was to use the headliner supplied by Mercedes or VW (same) I applied 10mm self adhesive insulate direct to the upper skin then fitted the headliner the full length. That left a decent air gap to aid breathing. Mine hasn’t any signs of moisture after 12 years. Other benefits are excellent sound deadener, good insulation, super light compared to timber and battens and best of all it looks good.

    Not going to do much talking is a understatement

  • @stevel1451
    @stevel1451 8 місяців тому

    The best way I found to combat condensation and moisture in my Sprinter van was to use the original manufacturers headliner. It breathes, insulates and is a good sound deadener. I still used 10mm insulated mat on the metal. Another plus is it’s extremely light compared to what I see other builders use ie: timber battens and panels.

    The Daly BMS may have not enough balancing current (only 30mA) to keep the batteries balanced according to Andys "Off-Grid Garage". Maybe its necessary to add a 5A active balancer witch you activate above 3,4V with a "Voltage detection controller" (a cheap PCB with a relay and a simple LED display where you can program the switch on and off limits)

    You should use a sheet of rubber roof material between each cell qnd on the ends between batteries and plates. It helps with keeping compression equal. I'm building a 8s2p for my 24 volt solar power system soon as I get home off the road in two weeks. I've ordered the cells and a 300 Amp 24 volt dally but I'm thinking I should have gotten the 400 Amp bms

    • @CraftyCamper
      @CraftyCamper Рік тому

      Rubber between the cells is a good idea. Good luck building your pack, I'm sure it will all go smoothly. I assume it is your inverter that would need the 400A BMS? I'm not sure what you have that is drawing 9.6kW? We don't even use that amount of power in our house! lol... I went for a 150A BMS because the wiring sizes are more sensible and I didn't expect to discharge more than about 20A at a time max, only the inverter would max it out, and we rarely use that much power, just charging laptops / projector really.

    • @matthewknight5641
      @matthewknight5641 Рік тому

      @@CraftyCamper I use a small welder from time to time. The rest of the place wouldn't need a 150 bms I wouldn't think but I figure to make the bms last I needed to over size it as much as I can. This past year when running the welder I wasn't using a bms at all only 24 leaf modules at 24 volts.

  • @drewhodge3820
    @drewhodge3820 Рік тому

    Surely you could just paint on the resin? Doing fibreglass upside down is almost impossible. The only real way to fibreglass the plywood ceiling is to remove it and apply it on a horizontal (on a table or on the floor) If you want to reduce the movement between the ceiling boards use PU adhesive (CT1 etc). While PU adhesive is semi flexible it won't crack and is very unlikely to move if the ply is screwed to the ceiling.
