    This is my favorite World War 2 movie of all time. And it is one of the best movies ever made. And it is based on a true story. So let us remember the 50.

    The fates of these characters make these seemingly throwaway, almost childlike comedic scenes extremely poignant. I can’t think of any other movie with such a dramatic contrast between lightheartedness and overwhelming sorrow.

    Thank you for this tour; My mothers father, my granddad was a veteran of HMS Ajax and we have only recently learned of the association with the town. Sadly my mother and her remaining sisters are too old to travel now, but my wife and I are planning to visit the memorial and also the street that bears his name to get photos to share with them.

      Wow, very neat!!! Cherish that piece of family history!!! My great uncle that I mentioned in the video that was the mayor of the town, he used to live on one of the streets named after the sailors. Him and my great aunt moved to a senior apartment in town shortly after I made this video.

    Is that a pear tree, or a cherry? That is weird. I've seen perennials give a second bloom if they are trimmed after the first one but never a tree. Ask an arborist and let us know!

    • @andrewstravels2096
      @andrewstravels2096 29 днів тому

      Honestly, I’m not sure. It’s usually the first tree that blooms in March, followed by all the other flowering trees. Thats a good question.

    I like those flags in particular. Adds some differentiation than the standard battle flag. Of course there were variations of these flags in some regiments. In Sam Watkins’ regiment, the 1st Tennessee Infantry, the colors of the Polk flag were reversed. As for the Hardee/Cleburne flag, it has personal significance. An ancestor of mine fought and died serving under that flag at Chickamauga.

    • @andrewstravels2096

      Wow, very interesting. I’ve actually been to Chickamauga a couple times, and I’ve made a few videos for the channel from there a couple years ago.

      @@andrewstravels2096 I have yet to go there. Another ancestor in an Ohio regiment was captured and died at Andersonville so Chickamauga does have great personal significance for me.

      You’re absolutely welcome my friend!!! I have plenty of other Civil War videos on my channel that include battlefield and monument videos. I try to get at least one Confederate monument video every time I go down south. While my civil war ancestor was in the Union Army, I have sympathy for the Confederate soldier and I respect the soldiers on both sides and what they fought for. Interesting enough, my Union ancestor, his father was actually born in Georgia and moved to Illinois in the 1830s, and my ancestor has cousins that served in the Confederate Army. Had the family stayed in the south for longer, my ancestor probably would’ve even been in the Confederate Army.
