I'm Dmitry Sapko, an automotive journalist and former car mechanic.
I've been working for several large online-platforms which I have no rights to disclose here (but you can check that through Google if you want).
My aim here, at this channel, is to provide you with the information that a lot of car mechanics don't want you to know. I'm focusing on DIY repairs and working with myths that dealerships keep creating to rip you off. Unfortunately, this scenario is more common than you may think.
So, I film short videos explaining a certain problem with a certain car model or brand and give you tips on how you can solve the problem. Sometimes, I will also make "all-purpose" videos explaining common questions about cars from my point of view.
Everything I say here is my personal opinion based on my experience. If you don't agree with my opinion, I'm glad to discuss that in comments.

“Stop safely, 12v battery critical charging fault” warning in Volvo cars
If your Volvo throws the “Stop safely, 12v battery critical charging fault” warning, it means there are problems with charging the battery. Also, the system has already registered poor voltage and it’s not likely that you can keep driving without caring about the electrical issue in your car.
In 2022 model year, there was a common problem with software and there is an update that fixes battery charging issues.
Anyway, other model years can still throw this message and this will mean that the battery is low, dying, or there is something with the charging system. Sometimes, the initial problem is with the periods of inactivity or driving conditions. For example, your Volvo has spent over a week in your garage without being started. Or you drive very short distances only.
Whatever the reason for this warning in your situation, you will find the answers in this short video. I hope, it will be helpful to you and will let you solve the problem with the battery in your Volvo forever!

I recommend checking the connections first. After that, you may try charging or...

Transmission adaptation reset after fluid change? Scam!..
Correct!
It just died on me and had this message before it died. I bought a battery charger, I charged the battery in the backside and had NO READING AT ALL. Now I charged the rover via the front trunk connections and now the lights are actually turning on and off but no engine start. Won't recognize the phob either.
Probably, the battery is dead and can't be charged. Do the connections on the battery look good? I would charge it for 8-9 hours and than tried a load test.
Hi I have got a problem with my 2013 Renault Fluence Dynamique 1.5 dci the red light is on in the dash it reads Breaking System Fault also the following systems are up ABS, Traction Control, Cruise Control, Speed Limiter, No Speedometer, very little Power Steering and the push Start Button won’t turn off after one attempt you have try 5 or 6 times . I would be very grateful if you could have any ideas. Great show very insightful keep up the good work you have a fan here.
Well, that's a lot of things. I would start with checking the battery and the charging system (alternator), battery and ground connections. Then, ABS certainly has issues - that's why you see all those lights. And it doesn't seem related to possible voltage problem. OBD will show which sensor is out. This may also be the problem with control modules being shorted. But this is impossible to inspect on your own. I hope it helps
Thank You
Amsoil a year burn oil 🪔
They should invest gear driven CVT, it's less friction, heat, clutch, more efficient and way more powerful. The concept is out there just copy it.
Thank you very much. It worked for me
Jatco is making CVT for Nissan, Mitsubishi and Suzuki or even more brands. What kills CVT, not only from Jatco, but from Toyota/AISIN, Honda, which are also on metal belts or from Audi and Subaru which are on chains is: 1. heavy foot - as CVTs don't like high tourge and even aren't connected with diesels due to that; 2. lack of fuild check and changes, which leads to pump failure. These are the best transmissions for calm drives, as due too fuel economy and no gears (smooth ride).
Gear driven CVT can handle high torque but it's just last year prototype.
It's not working for me. The steering wheel isn't locked
I have this come up on my 2012 passat 1.6 ive over 300,000 km on clock. When i check dipstick its showinh i have too much oil. It goes up past the dipstick of where it should be. I also had the DPF light come on a couple of times before the low pressue light. Thank you
This can also be the crankcase ventilation system problem. The valve in VW engines is pretty complicated and may get clogged. This makes oil leak through the dipstick tube. Worth checking
Yes, the thing is to test the battery before you blame the alternator. Also check if the belt might be slipping.

Thanks for answering this question! Seriously
Replaced the battery and the key fob, new car battery as well. This is a design fault with the Nissan Keys.
Good afternoon, is this problem also present on the 2022 model?? because I'm having problems with the central display of the radio that freezes and becomes completely black. Thanks for the reply
Yes, the problem is still there with newer models. You may see in the manual or online where the infotainment fuse is located and reset it by pulling it out. Unfortunately, there is no simple and long lasting fix for this issue.
@@DmitrySapko ok, but the problem is often given (as I saw from the video) by the cooling fan not working??
Right, but it's not something you can easily fix, so just resetting it will get it back to normal. Also, the fan was added by PSA when they knew about the problem with overheating, and even when the fan works, it may still freeze from time to time. I expected a recall but there have been nothing good so far.
Bro thank you I dead tried this out and it worked Preciate you fr my heart❤
Great video, thanks for the heads up about the main bearings
I just changed my timing chain and fixed all the gasket on my 2013 volkswagen cc and suddenly the light coming on and off. My milage is around 200,000 KM. Any ideas? 😢
At this mileage, the oil pump is very often the reason for this. Have you used the oil with proper viscosity? Isn't the oil level dropping now?
An excellent video, very useful, thanks.
the main thing that kills the alternator is the heat, if it can't be cooled properly, even with smaller electrical loads, the diode bridge and the voltage regulator will break, that's why it's always better to make the engine spin faster because then it cools better
4:17 not really, if the battery (45AH) was completely empty for the first few minutes it would not draw more than 20-30 A with the fact that the power of the alternator on such a car is 70A, and later the current would perhaps be 10-15A and would constantly decrease, which is not a problem for the alternator because only the lights need that much current
I didn’t know manufacturers had an expected lifespan for their vehicles until I heard that Toyota had an expected lifespan of 25 years on their Land Cruiser which is one of the longest in the car industry. Perhaps that’s why some cars, no matter how well maintained, will just keep letting you down. Parts are only designed to last so long.

I want to think it might be battery related on my side, because the air pressure sensors are also confused. This message then appeared yesterday, i have to say i was driving in scorching heat and it happened when i was shifting to sport mode
Yes, might be voltage-related. But if it reappears, some more attention is certainly needed.
Well I tested again after resetting the battery, the issue is still there. Now I definitely have to get it checked out 😢
today I have this issue but car 4 years 65000 km out of warranty How much is it cost to sort it out this issue ?
Have the engine looked at by good mechanics. If you are very lucky, professional flushing and belt replacement will help. But chances are high the engine is in big trouble. Repair costs are unpredictable and depend on the damage.
One major option you can do to make your engine/timing chain last longer is to change the oil much sooner than the mfg recommends. If they say 10K change at 7K. Use a quality synthetic oil and I also add Liquid Molly MOs2.
I can still remember the time when BMW ? Mercedes had duplex chains. You could completely forget the chain drive, because it whas undestroiable. In fact out of 300 cars we once had to change a chaintensioner on a MB 220D. Drofengines.
Mine was under warranty and the replacement only lasted 30k. Unbelievable.
They replace CVT like sparkplug 😂
I have a 2016 Vauxhall viva which has 1.0 L engine and the car has done over 155 K and still has the same alternator as I bought it with 36 miles on the clock greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Chains do not stretch, they wear.
Hi, i use a TIGUAN TDI 2019, the message appered in my console, and when i switcged it off and turned on , it dissaperaed for 25 kms and again started, i sent it to ASC for check up , hey did not mention anything about mechatronics etc , they said the oil sump is leaking oil and the erroe may be becaouse of it. is that true.
It's not likely to be the reason, but still possible. If nothing changes in the car's behavior, I wouldn't jump into conclusions and would keep observing it. Check the fluid level in the transmission though.
@@DmitrySapko thank u very much.
My alternator lasted 18 months bought from Amazon
Seems like a good idea. Sales would decrease if shit ran forever, & this gurantees they won't. Like 'lifetime oil' in lawnmower transaxles 😂
I have never heard of the timing chain wearing out on a British Leyland A-series or B-series engine. I have heard of the timing chain wearing out on the Triumph Stag (also from British Leyland), which is very hard on the timing chain because the engine is a V8 with two-plane crankshaft and overhead camshafts. This means that although the firing intervals are equally spaced in the engine as a whole they are not equally spaced within individual cylinder banks and so there are torque fluctuations on the camshafts because there are not equal numbers of valves opening and closing at any given moment on each camshaft.
Ethanol in fuel makes failure more likely small amounts of fuel get into the oil.
(2015 Fusion) We just had the front brake hoses done on the recall and started getting this message in the morning after starting it a few days later, the temperature has been in the 30's. We shut the car off, take out the key, open & close drivers door and restart the car and the message is gone. But how do we fix it?
If it started after some job on brakes, I would let dealership deal with this. Otherwise, disconnecting the battery for 5 min should reset it.
I worked for over 25years in the automotive service sector. Just recently my older son told me about this timing belt running in the oil. At first I thought he was joking with me but then he showed me this on youtube and I was shocked. In the old days there was a common rule not to put any oil or lubricant on rubber. The engineer who came uo with this and his supervisor should get an award: How to f*** up an engine. Probably the next step will be plastic engines. :-) Plastic engines could be very easy recycled...lol
Yes, yes yes. The automotive fee have made some disastrous mistakes when it comes to rubber belts inside the ice engine. If we went backwards we usually have chains if we had a stainless steel chain or titanium chain which would be better but no rubber they are throwaway cars in the mind of the people who are making them. I have a Hyundai 2014 absolutely brilliant car quick two door 1600 with SNG only buy my servicing the car myself the right way as for Hyundai service in Australia. They are simply worthless here in Australia. We had to change air filters and oil filters Very quickly. Otherwise dust from the dead centre ruins the car just like it wiped out all the solar panels that they put in central Australia big mistake anybody could’ve told them that Australia is being run on empty because Albanese Mr. Albanese couldn’t run a boss. I don’t know where he was educated. It was on another planet.
Cool video report. Thanks for sharing ❤
What’s wrong with dry external belts? Why would you even need to soak a rubber belt in boiling hot oil anyway? They don’t need lubrication. Everyone needs to mass boycott cars with that design. It’s the only way manufacturers will learn their lesson on penny pinching. Like Boeing.
It's all about emissions. These wet-belt engines are slightly more eco-friendly.
@ don’t you think cooking your rubber belt in hot oil like French fries and letting those rubber particles get into the engine oil and then get burnt and sent out the tailpipe is a bad thing for emissions?
I do think it's an insane idea that's why I made this video :) Emission control or whatever other reasons they have for killing ICE engines at all are just excuses for making us all buy EVs now.
Wet timing belt. What is it? Stupid. Why is it bad? because it is stupid
I just done changed the oil in a garage and while returning back this message appears, i’ve open the bonnet and i’ve seen some oil drops everywhere. I don’t know if they screwed up something
Poorly tightened filter or plug. Should be ok after retightening and adding oil. Unless it was driven a lot with this warning.
@ thanks dmitry for the answer, it wasn’t driven a lot it’s right after the oil change like 50km, apparently the guy forget the joint in the filter
Why do belts need to be wet and lubricated at all? What was wrong with dry belts that they needed to develop this technology? I have been living with dry belts for decades and didn't have a single issue.
They are around 1% more efficient compared to dry-belts, which is a *huge* difference during emissions tests. Remember, European standards are extremely obsessed with those gains in run-time emissions. Getting 1% more efficient is way more valuable to European standards than having the car survive for 20 years.
@@FinlayDaG33k Thanks for the enlightening.
dry belt requires 2 or even 3 additional seals between oil space and outer dry air, which Costs Money, lets save $50 per vehicle, they promised modern synthetic belt survives in oil forever!!!!!! Yes, bossa, great idea, implementing now! - Whut, it degrades in 3 year? Nobody cares, we already sold this car, now its owner problem, nuahaha!
They should recall and change all into a chain
At least PSA already updated the engine to chain (last models with 1.2 hybrids and 6 speed dual clutch are chain) but nowadays there are no perfect solution because we all know the problems with chain systems and the tensioners (plastic guides).
But there is a kit to change from belt to chain.
Worth noting that the wet belt design isnt limited to the ford and PSA engines mentioned here, other manufactures, for example Honda, have also applied this technology.
@@MattyT_86 i reckon this manufacturers made an agreement an agreement to create this rubbish wet belt boom cars ,it's a rip off
GM also has this design. I think all of them were convinced by belt manufacturers without being tested in the road. On paper they are good because the low friction and better noise suppression but there is a wolf called oil dilution and this is the main problem.
the wet belt is a money grabbing scheme. As are the modern chains, they last shorter than belts. In the old time the chain would outlast the car.

In theory this solution has a lot of benefits and last longer that the traditional dry belt (maybe in this 3cyl engines).
