#review Zodiac FreeRider: technical specifications
Want to know more about the Zodiac FreeRider? What is the best pool robot 2023?
Here is the latest in cordless, battery-operated robotic pool cleaners from an industry leader - Zodiac.
In this video we answer key questions:
- is it as good as the Zodiac Duo-X on which it is built?
- how much does it weigh?
- brush design, suction and filter canister?
- what models for the new FreeRider: FR1000 and FR2000?
- what types of pools does the FreeRider suit?
- battery specifications: amp hours, how many hours will the battery last when in use, how long does it take to fully recharge, how many charging cycles should it last?
- what's the warranty?
- how do your turn on/off & control the cleaner?
- cleaning cycles: floor/walls/waterline or floor only as well as SMART and waterline only modes?
- how to set up the machine and connect to iAqualink app?
- general cleaner use, how to operate and maintain the cleaner after use?
How does it compare to the Maytronics Liberty cordless robotic cleaner? Come back later and check our other videos.

Tenants Move In ... Pool Was a Swamp #satisfying #jetwashing
Переглядів 545Рік тому
There's always a reason why a pool turns green ... and if left for a few years ... it can become a swamp ... thick with algae and sludge. Once it gets this bad, the only thing you can do is drain the pool, shovel out the sludge and high pressure wash (jet wash) the algae off and start with clean water. Sadly, there was no happy ending for these tenants. They moved in expecting the landlord to m...

    Just curious, what is the purpose of this salt? Like, what does it do to the water?

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 2 місяці тому

      The salt (sodium chloride) gets converted to chlorine and the chlorine acts as a sanitiser to kill off harmful microbes so the pool is safe to swim. 😀

      Check the Owner's Manual page 18; there are instructions at the back for General Troubleshooting. Could be that the charging pads are dirty. Always rinse the pool robot with tap water and dry the charging contacts before putting on the charging station.

  • @ninobobino4543
    @ninobobino4543 4 місяці тому

    Fun fact I learned the hard way: if you backwash a sand filter, too much, the sand will be too disrupted to actually filter. That’s why multi port valves have the rinse mode . You should only need to backwash at most like once a month, and after a backwash, use a rinse for a couple seconds.

    • @ninobobino4543
      @ninobobino4543 4 місяці тому

      If you feel the need to backwash, due to bad flow every week, then you probably need to replace the sand

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 3 місяці тому

      Agree, once a month should be adequate for a filter in reasonable condition. And rinse for about 30 secs so you don't have a cloud of dirty water return to the pool once it goes back onto rinse.

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 3 місяці тому

      Agree, if you need to backwash weekly you've got a problem. When was the media changed last? Most people, never.

    It could be worst. The pool company I work for had a customer years ago ask to install a new pump, filter and a heater with a green pool clean up on top. We carried out the work and finished up one afternoon when the client said “I will make sure to tell the landlord that the work is done”. The boss’s heart sunk that moment. The landlord blew up the tenant and told him to rip out the new equipment.

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 6 місяців тому

      Yeah, can be difficult when you're in between the tenant and landlord. I've been caught out before. No I make sure I know who's paying the bill and get payment up front.

    Possibly stupid question but is there any robot pool vac that will put itself in the pool??

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 6 місяців тому

      Unfortunately not. Unlike robot lawn mowers which use perimeter wires and docking stations, the pool environment is too dangerous for nearby electrical supply to charging stations. For the moment, we'll need to carry the pool robot from the charging station to the pool. They are pretty cool to watch though.

    Is there a way to keep the pump on but turn off the salt cell? Was told to do this when adding salt.

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 6 місяців тому

      It's a good idea to turn off the cell when you add salt but as long as your only adding a bag or two it's probably OK. It depends on the chlorinator you have as to whether you can turn off the cell but keep the pump running. If you want to do this, you can always unplug the pump from the chlorinator and plug it directly into a power point.

    I was looking at the Zodiac CX50 (a mate of mine is a fireman, he keeps telling me horror stories of rechargeable batteries setting peoples houses on fire, so I'm opting for a cord machine). Any thoughts on that model (concrete pool, 3 x 7.5, gets some leaves, but loads of dust). thanks :)

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 7 місяців тому

      Totally understand concerns about rechargeable batteries. These tend to be cheap imports of batteries and/or charges that aren't suitable. The Zodiac FreeRider has an integrated battery management system designed so it can be safely left on the charger once fully charged. If you want a good pool robot with cable I'd recommend the DuoX that the FreeRider is based on. Essentially same machine but differs with cable (DuoX) or battery (FreeRider). Any machine, regardless of brand, that has a cable should be removed from the pool for several days each week to extend its longevity (see Owner's Manual for further advice from manufacturer).

    Does the FR1000 do a great quality clean to the waterline?

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 7 місяців тому

      The active brush design is based on the Duo-X cleaner and similar robotic cleaners from Zodiac with many years of history. It's as good as these cleaners and cleaners of other leading brands. The app also allows for a Waterline Only cleaning mode so it spends the whole cycle just doing this. I have several customers who have this in their pool and when I'm there every 2-4 weeks the waterline is clean. If you end up getting one, let me know your thoughts.

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 6 місяців тому

      Sorry I missed your post. Probably better to get a local pool technician to take a look as it will differ depending on the type of chlorinator. Otherwise, plug the pump into a timer plugged into power point / electrical outlet so you're controlling it directly if you're needing to repair the chlorinator.

    Why do people put salt in their pools?

    • @poolcrewau
      @poolcrewau 6 місяців тому

      The salt gets converted into chlorine by equipment called a chlorinator. The chlorine helps to sanitise the water and make it safe to swim. In Australia, about 90% of pools use salt chlorination; we have very harsh summers with strong sun and loads of rain and this method is the most reliable for busy people.

      Sorry I missed your post. In generally, you should be able to vacuum on filter mode and then backwash/rinse after if you have sufficient water. If the pool has a lot of debris, algae or floc settled on the bottom, you're better off vacuuming to waste so it bypasses the filter and all that junk doesn't block the filter.
