Camino de Santiago - Santander to Muxia via Norte, Primitivo & Finisterre March 2024 - 688km 23 days
After completing the Camino Frances, I knew I had to return for another Camino, this time starting on the Camino Norte in Santander, transiting to the Primitivo and finally finishing in Muxia.
I expected to be alone most of the time, I thought I wouldn’t have any new revelations, and I didn’t expect to be pushed to my limit. The Camino provided in ways I truly didn’t expect.
This is my way of recreating the relaxation and emotions that I experienced on my journey.

Did you walk in the Autumn? I saw the snow, part way in to your video.
I started late March from SJPP so most of it was in spring.
You got GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS footage and shots! ( What did you use for visual capture?!!) The composition of your stills is quite exquisite. Thank you - so appreciate how you chose to capture your journey - no constant conversation, not even much capture of where you stayed - no extraneous stuff - what an interesting minimalist style of documenting the Camino - 🙏🙏🙏

Most video was recorded on a GoPro the rest was on my phone.

Hello, how was the weather in March? Thank you.
Most days were fine with a temperature range of roughly 10(night) - 20(day). I got a few days off rain and really bad weather on Hospitales (hail, sleet and really strong winds). There were 3 hot days 25-27C. I really like the temps and I didn't mind the rain, that's why I went again at the same time of the year.
great in my head i am onthe camino when in see this. And NO selfy stick no face book only wonderful images and video's.

Memories did the Camino in 23 at the age of 83.. Solo loved every minute.. blessings

Back in California just 6 weeks and already forgetting all those villages ! BUT!! I will never forget their warmth and kindness during those formidable days of rain and hurricane winds but they still made an effort to say Buen Camino. It meant a lot to this backpacker / tenter/ pilgrim. I now understand the magic as im going back April 7 2025 as i have to complete Leon to Sarria section. Took a 10 day rest at my mates house in Almerimar and was to embark on Portuguese but it rained and entire week. Buen Camino

Thank you! I didn't have any sticks but I'm very comfortable climbing hills and going down rocky paths. It's a personal choice. There are places you can buy some of you feel you need them on the Frances. It rained a little so it's better to be prepared than get yourself and your things wet.

I think most of the music is fine - it makes the photos and footage keeping to the minimalist feel...

I fall asleep almost every night to the sound of the "crunch crunch" underneath your feet. Walked San Jean to Leon August 2023 with an extremely heavy heart. Could not finish, could not face Cruz de Ferro. Am leaving again mid May 2024 with hopes of genuine forgiveness. Thank you for your inspirational video.
I really hope that you gain that forgiveness you wanted this time around. Just take it one step at a time.
Did you take any rest days?
No rest days. Closest day to a rest day was the 14km day.
I am wondering about how crowded the track was when you were walking it in april. How many people you would cross paths with on a day roughly? I am thinking about walking in March, but i dont feel like walking with to many people so Im wondering if Camino Frances is not yet too overrun in early spring.
March was quiet but still incredibly enjoyable. There were days where I walked all day and ran into 5 pilgrims but on average I would guess that I would see less than 30. There are bottleneck towns where it might "feel busy". There was a substantial jump in pilgrims from Sarria to Santiago though.
What equipment (camera, etc.) did you use to record the journey?
I will be making another video very shortly on equipment but I used my Google Pixel and GoPro 11 for all footage.

Definitely look into it! I did long days due to leave constraints but do it at your own pace.
The first time I walked the Camino I was 62. The 2. time 66 and now I will walk the 3. time in October and my age is 78. Greetings from Germay. 🇩🇪

Amazing to do it in 27 days. What boots did you wear?
Thank you! I wore Inov8 Trailfly trail runners. I found the heel material to be too soft and it caused me issues a week into it. The next Camino im doing I will be walking in Salomon speed cross 6.
Your video is beautiful! What were the temperatures like in March. You had beautiful sunny days for the most part.
Thank you so much. The day time Max temperatures averaged around 15 degrees. I had a few warm 25 degree days. I prepared myself for mostly rain and I only got a few days of drizzle.

I started in SJPP april 27. 2023. Great weather during the day but quite cold in the early mornings!. After Leon it was nice warm. I finished Santiago June 3. 🙏 It's been a wonderful life experience.
That path looks like it will wash you away if you are on it on a heavy rainy day.

Well done. What an amazing achievement, especially to do it in 27 days and in inclement weather no less. Hoping to be able to do it (finances and time permitting) in 2024 (or maybe 2025) myself, though perhaps not quite as fast and hopefully in better weather too. Buen Camino!

Najlepszy film o camino jaki od dawna obejrzałem. Idealny, w moim stylu. Żadnego gadania, piękne ujęcia i muzyka w tle. Na prawdę można poczuć klimat poelgrzymowania Prawie czułem woń powietrza, chłód i upał. Mam nadzieję kiedyś jechać rowerem z Polski, iść już gorzej że względu na kontuzję kolana.. widzę jednak, że momentami szlak był ciężki do przejścia, więc rowerem tym bardziej słabo.. Gratuluję przejścia, wspomnień i filmu. Mega. Pozdrawiam
Dziękuję za piękne słowa. Mój polski jest trochę słaby. Miejmy nadzieję, że Twoje kolano wyzdrowieje na tyle, aby samodzielnie ukończyć Camino.

A minimalist way of recording his journey; quite a different take of how most others record their journey. I agree - actually, the style of recording is so different, it's refreshing!
why is your route so differ from the others looks so lonely and deserted
I haven't seen this route, but maybe others haven't shown these parts on their videos. I like solitude but that was too isolating especially during the hike. I like people around.
This is the standard Camino Frances but I did start before the official season thus the lack of pilgrims plus i wanted to show the reality of the way. It was quiet on the walk but there were enough pilgrims at the albergues to make it fun & social. The isolation while walking really gave you time to contemplate life and the journey.
