is that an esp32s3 i see lol
2 minutes later yep it is
WHY DIDNT YOU PUT THE CODE IN VERSION CONTROL?!?!?!?!?!?!
"A guy wearing a baby"
I think that is my favorite weird tech version of Bad Apple. Great video. It does a great job of showing the journey.
What about using some form of dithering to emulate tones? This project reminds me a lot of drawing images using a plotter, and replacing a mid tone with a thin grid or rough pattern could both mask the harsh lines and allow more depth than just lineart
20:49 robots can not make art, they make generated images
Damn Willie is such a chill dude. He's very silly on video, but when he needs it, he's actually very professional. Years ago I was on a patreon zoom call, and behind the scenes he's a very bright organizer, like yeah he's a crazy engineer but he can organize people, handle complex logistics, make decisions. OpenSauce is a wacky venture, but an engineer with passion but without strong human skills wouldn't have made it through the first event, and now it's the second time, and it's a yearly thing. As a guy who can't lead people for shit, I think it's very impressive and important. And you don't have to be good at both, it's good to have cooperation between engineers/makers/programmers and competent managers. And Willie can still be a very silly person, it's not like a mask he puts on, it's just another aspect of the guy
Yeah hahaha big respect for big willy We had a chance to chat at the event a few times and it seemed VERY stressful to handle OS - but he and his team was pretty graceful with it and definitely capable.
Hey man! I work in film and stage lighting in Pittsburgh, plus I’m a huge nerd, so I’d love to chat sometime
PS I do a lot of networking for work and smarthome stuff on the side, so I could definitely help with the remote data stuff 😅
probably one of the only sponsor clips that i didnt hate. very nice!
the line from the border to the image in the videos reminds me of vhs tape noise or whatever, i mean the static that plays over the video. i personally like it.
Today I learned I'm somewhere between level 2 and 3 in my technical knowledge.
You should collab with princess etch a sketch to sell some dynamic art pieces. I wonder if you’d be able to record her work somehow. Not only could the art become reproducible, but that would be such a cool thing to buy!
Sorry to break it to you but we broke up a perfectly good CNC router to get parts for a robot Etch-A-Sketch back in 2001. We never thought to do the time lapse video but it could reproduce photos as vector images with a lot more detail than that. I nearly lost my job for wasting time (and routers) but was reprieved when the sales director realised what a massive crowd puller it was at trade shows.
That's really cool! The engineering challenge of this project was building a custom BLDC motor controller with FOC, and to test it's limits by turning relatively high KV drone motors into high precision servos. I didn't really go into it that much to appeal to the general audience, because this projects goal is to inspire others to make robots and show that it can be accessible! So don't be sorry! An etch a sketch robot is supposed to be easy, it IS easy, and it's fun, and that's exactly what we want to convey :) Nowadays you could take a Klipper board like the 3d printing community uses and get even better results I think, especially with some higher power and specifically chosen motors 🤔
Do the full bad apple please
Holy shit ❤ hope you’re well bro miss you
Casey! Thanks for stopping by the channel hahaha its been a minute!
i mean, you could use multiple etch a sketches at the same time and have each one making a different frame and use a computer to grab each frame and display it in order so you could make videos much faster. also, if you wanted you could make a shaded version that would just take longer. combined, you could make decent stuff in a decent amount of time
Exactly 💯 you get it :) And our code is specifically made to handle this too! We can control any number of etch a sketch robots with the same Gcode server 🤠
You didn't. Put the code on a flash drive? Upload it to github? Never hope your home network is reliable if you dont have a sysadmin at home!!!
Ahahaha no no don't worry - our code was on github and backed up there was just one commit that was missing because we left in such a hurry to the airport the router at our friends place hated our SSH setup, but we called our roommate and he fixed it from our house -- just cost a little stress is all :)
@EveryFlavorRobot that's a relief data loss stresses me out!!!!!!!!
A few months ago, this was done by Russian blogger AlexGyver.
Good observation, and thanks for watcing! If you're curious about this fr, we didn't say this was the worlds first etchbot! In fact people have made them for years, long before either of us did. The difference is, when every stepper motor etchbot timelapses their drawings they look as fast as our robot does at 1x speed. When we timelapse our robot we get videos at 24fps! So even if you disregard the custom circuit board (that this project is just a demo for), or the custom and better performing algorithms we programmed to make this robot faster and more advanced, I think any engineer can see that this is a vastly different machine :) Props to AlexGyver and everyone else who made etchbots before us, we love those projects! But they are only the same on the surface. Its a failure on my part to communicate these differences :( but we are learning :)
Hope you’re proud of yourselves. 15:06. Great feeling knowing you’re doing something right.
Thank you Algorithm + Pseudo-ClickBait for pushing this into my feed, so glad, I decided to subscribe. Looking forward to see what comes next
ay we'll take what we can get thanks for coming by and subbing :)
I’ve spent 20 years diving deep into PID controllers, and this video just blew me away. Hands down, the clearest and most concise explanation I’ve ever encountered. Bravo!
this is the kind of stuff i want to do and i could do but dont have the motivation to do it
I need the full version of bad apple so bad! Insanely impressive work!
I think I'm getting Rick-Rolled but I can't tell.
Was randomly recommended your video, and I love the scope of it! The tech, the event vlog, the artist chat - everything tied together to make such a wonderful package. Thanks for sharing your project, I'm in awe.
I think you coined a new term, Vibrasion: to erase something by vibration
7:18 sry martincitopants did it first
Easy Sub and Share This video hit at just the right time for me. I’m a mechanical engineer that specializes in manufacturing systems with a decent enough background and ability to create but the past 4 years on top of massive medical issues has really taken me out. This was a great reminder that where you live isn’t everything. Having the right attitude and aptitude is huge and you can still grow even if you’re in an isolated area. Awesome content, I’m looking forward to your next endeavor. I can jump on your discord at some point, my main strengths are design for manufacturing optimization (specifically in precision machining and assembly). I’d be happy to help or consult on anything if the need arises.
Had no idea you were local to Pittsburgh it makes this project way cooler as a fellow yinzer
Let's go bucs! 🤠
should have an atari 2600 race the beam display list mode/game implementation, so two people can play real time _etch a sketch pong_ via joystick inputs.
i DEMAND a full version of bad apple synced to the music!
Now plug in a video of the robot working
The image on the "screen" of the etch a sketch is not the art that this is, the etch a sketch itself becomes the art. The engineering to make it is very similar to the engineering used to make a typewriter work. Some might consider it engineering, but many consider it a type of art.
stop calling me "michael reeves from wish" 🤧
if you keep putting this much effort into your videos, you will become the next channel like mark rober or william osman, backyard scientist, I feel it. keep putting in this same level of effort and you will get there.
2:00 you were thinking correctly
Hey! We watch your videos! At OS you gave Swap a Piz dispenser and we totally got stopped in the airport security for that on the way back lmao it was hilarious Hahaha thanks for stopping by :)
@@EveryFlavorRobothaha sorry about that! My project this year might do even worse in security, if I have my way! Can't wait to see you again next year.
WOAH really impressive work! The Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends intro would look cool.
I remember seeing you guys at like 2k subs and being super impressed - glad to be offically an og EFoR fan, can wait to see what you do next!!
thanks for sticking with us from the start ;)
So you did Bad Apple... but can you play Doom on it? Draw the frame when you select an input, step by step the game. Should be possible, yet tedious.
Bro you gonna be very successful on yt
I know it's unintentional, but the bot flipping to erase is almost like it's bowing at the end of it's performance.
I dont own or never even touched an etch a sketch (mostly because ive never been to the americas) this is cool just coo
great video but why did you have to use an AI generated image at 24:43 :(
???? Bro doubts my Photoshop skills 😡 No I'm jk, I used the Photoshop generative expand because it was so unreadable zoomed in so close
22:13 WOW, I immediately recognized the skyline of my city (Nashville)! She's amazing.
right!!! such a good drawing of such a good skyline all 4 of us went to school in nashville, lots of love for that city! and for princess etch <3 thanks for watching!
I feel like you could use some logic from those image to ascii converters to increase the level of detail substantially.
15:06 Wassup Mitch!
what Pittsburgh what local folks what thanks UA-cam algorithm
ayyyyyy lmao
Yo, tell your subscribers to uninstall the Honey plugin first if they have it, so your sponsor code doesn't get hijacked 👍
