    Thank you for this video! I am currently repairing my well loved REI tent to use again next weekend! I bought 3/32 in bungee cord and it slides through great!

    Camping trip last fall cost me a lot if trouble setting up my REI Half Dome 2+. Arrived at my trail site at night... pitch black...no moon. Found the bungee cord it my poles was completely shot and the poles would not stay together. Took me over an hour to set up with the help of duct taping the sections together. Found your video, ordered new bungee cord and in less than 45 minutes my tent poles are back to like new. Thanks for the video...and yes, the hemostats were the perfect tool to make thus job a breeze.

    Great video & explanation. The only thing I would consider to reduce headache during this whole operation would be to tie the new shock cord around the old shock cord you're pulling through. That way, you don't have to fish the new cord through. Other than that, very handy video. Thank you!

      Hey! So I came back to this comment after thinking for a while- you might get away with the correct size ziptie. Folding it and using the head of the ziptie as the retaining bit.

    Just pulled out my half dome 2+ and discovered the issue with my cords. Couldn’t find any 3/32” so I ordered 1/8” and hope I can make it work. Cord should be here tomorrow. Got a canoe trip planned for next week and hope to have this tent to take. Really disappointed when we pulled it out today and discovered the cord issue. Thanks for doing this video. I was about to scrap the tent and buy new but hopefully I can salvage this one.

    This video is so helpful!! Thank you! The shock cord was definitely easier to pull through with the tweezers as mentioned and everything about the knot tying and lengths in here is great. Just replaced our 2017 half dome two cord for a trip to Patagonia and it worked so well. Much better than buying a new tent, thanks DJ for this info!

    Looks fun, I went up there today though and was told that mountain biking on ALL the trails is illegal. Was the ranger's office wrong or do they just look the other way?

    • @djlesinski7978
      @djlesinski7978 Рік тому

      Hi Rob, thanks for the comment. The first couple of times I went there I was parking at trailheads that didn't have signs. You are correct there is no MTB allowed. I have been asked to leave the park by LEO when I've been seen on an MTB. All that being said I see a lot of kids in there on MTBs. I guess user's discretion.

    Video is great! Where can I find replacement parts for the little black cap part which holds the elastic in the hub? We have had 2 break. Trying to find a way to keep in place. REI does not carry that part!

    This video is great and I’m about to restring my poles that I didn’t know were worn until I got to my campsite in the Idaho backcountry with 30 minutes of daylight. Glad we had duct tape. One question- how long should I cut the cord before starting? Just actual length of the pole without tension?

    • @djlesinski7978
      @djlesinski7978 Рік тому

      Hi Shea! I bought a big spool of cord so I wasn't much worried about trimming excess. I would probably leave yourself about half a pole length extra to give you room to tie the knots.

    • @proudfatherof3
      @proudfatherof3 Рік тому

    Hey there thanks so much for that video. Superrrr helpful and easy to follow. The last part I have a question about... are you pinching the cord in it’s relaxed state and stretching the last of the cord to tie a knot? Or what are you pinching and then stretching out? Kinda confused there

    • @djlesinski7978
      @djlesinski7978 Рік тому

      I'm stretching and then pinching. That way the cord inside the tube is under tension and what's outside (past where I've pinched off) is free. The result is that once I tie the knot and release the pinched area all the cord retracts into the tube relieving the tension. If this doesn't help explain reply again!

    Thank you for the video and also to the helpful commenters. I ordered 32 feet of 3/32 size shock cord from Tent Pole Technologies and it was exactly the right amount to replace all the elastic without any waste. This was for REI half dome plus 2 tent purchased around 2013. Following these instructions my husband and I completed this project in under half an hour and poles are like new again.
