The different kinds of Story Beats to fit your style: Plotter or Pantser
Hi. I haven't finished the video yet, but is it possible for the AI to fill in gaps vs full writing the novel? I essentially roleplay script-style with my family so I have finished books but only of dialogue and simple action, almost no sensory at all. Could this type of AI work with this?
Absolutely! I've taken script-style writing and put them in the beat box before (dialogue beats). You may need to play around with the system prompts for the style of writing you prefer, but you could definitely get this to work! -Kate
the most used word is "like" - horrible lecture. Sorry to say that, but it is really not good
Hello, new to the channel, and have a question. (Apologies if asked and answered previously) I already know my characters, locations and have established an outline, if I just input these into the codex can I then just generate the novel from there. Kindest Regards, Victoria
Hey! Absolutely. You can either do this manually if you have all your character sheets and the like written, or get AI to help you by extracting the characters, etc from what you've already written. In these videos I was trying to demonstrate the entire process, but you can easily adapt it and remove steps you don't need :)
Deepseek v25 is a good model in my opinion and it is not expensive. I think Deepseek is a Mix of Experts type model.
Tried some of these, very useful, but wow! Gemini Pro is really brutal! Need a very thick skin. Sonnet is at least a bit more diplomatic :-)
Thank you so much. I have wasted countless hours watching videos on Novelcrafter This video answered most of the questions I had on the Codex. THANK YOU!
great video, covered many aspects in just enough detail to get a feel for it
By the way you could name the actors prompt for the two guys in the balcony at the muppet show.
Is it possible to use novel crafter to write comics?
Thanks for sharing so much about your process. Where can I find your prompt to clean up dictated text? I've looked on Discord and the Notion doc and couldn't find it.
Thanks for letting me know that it's not there! I've updated the document to include the latest version of the prompt, and I will add it to the discord too :) -Kate
I am so sorry Kate I'm watching this one and after you retooled front cluade I was just sitting here rolling laughing at this thing. Although I kind of dread on what it would have to say with my current story. Most of what people do here where I live after Halloween is they go to Mass we have a rather large Catholic contingent so today is the feast of All souls.
Yeah, Claude was h a r s h today >< Happy feast day :) -K
When i am on the chat interface and i select my model i only get 2 system prompts come up as options, i can't select my custom prompts. Any idea why this is?
Is your prompt a workshop chat prompt or did you make it in one of the other sections? -Kate
Excuse my ignorance, but what is Plot Doctor?
Hi! The plot doctor is a prompt that our developer made to help in her writing, in order to validate your scenes with the worldbuilding in your codex, and suggest ideas for how to make them more in depth. The video has some examples, but for the best experience, I 1000% recommend you trying it out. This prompt was game-changing for me in my writing both on and off stream! -Kate
@@novelcrafter Thank you Kate, I searched and found it. Will have fun experimenting with it - Thank you!
WHY make a 2 hour video to explain what can be said in 10 minutes? Oh I get it the money.
Hi there, Novelcrafter does not have monetisation on our UA-cam channel, so make no money from these videos. We offer both shortform and longform content, the latter being in the form of live streams where users can ask questions on the techniques live. If you would like a shorter form video on this topic, please let us know. -Kate
2 hours I don't even want to watch. This is an editing and planning issue. Or, the point is to get exposure to more details and how the process works. The title doesn't help and there are no links to summaries.
Is a synonym/thesaurus prompt possible.
I don't have one myself, however I will ask the team. Currently you need to select about 4 words for the prompts to show for text replacement, so it would work with phrases, but let us have a think! -Kate
Thank you for the reply. This will help a lot if implemented. BTW i am a paid member and ❤ your product.
is live chat not on?
I've checked the video, and it seems like it isn't - this wasn't a setting that we made, UA-cam won't give us the option to activate it for this video :c -Kate
I use the chat feature A LOT... it truly does help when it comes to brainstorming and just getting constructive feedback. Of course, it also depends on the LLM, so results will vary. I almost exclusively use Claude 3.5 Sonnet for most of my fiction writing.
I would like to know more about the parent / not parent options with references in the codex. I'd like to understand the implications.
Great request! We'll add this to our codex videos for when we add them to the series <3 -Kate
Excellent video. Thank you!!!
I don't want to sound rude, but asking for the notion link every time is getting annoying. It should always be pinned at the top of the chat or in the description. That being said, please post the link.
Apologies - as we stream off a third party vendor I often forget to upload the document until I am back at work on monday morning (as I did for this one - sorry for the delay in replying to the comment). That said, it is always in the chat, usually the first message, so you can find it there. Have a great day, -Kate
Cool
Hello! Excuse me, how can I make the output language in NovelCrafter be Chinese? Thank you!
Check out our novel settings video and that will show you :) It also helps to rewrite the prompts into the language that you want the output in -Kate
I don't understand how to start a story from a scene summary, doctor. Can you make a step-by-step video about it?
Second that.
That's a great idea! I will put that on our video list. I believe in the live with the scene doctor had an example there, but if not, we will definitely make one! -Kate
Hi if my novel is half written with a messy outline in another lauguage. Can i still import and will it generate and translate it into English? I hope to write in my preferred lauguage
Just dropping a comment here - food for thought. I used plot doctor with 4o-min and Haiku. I provided full text. The Dr came back with summaries and good reviews but it never did all the chapters. I asked for a chapter by chapter analysis and it would provided perhaps chapters 1-7... there was one time I got the tail end of the story. Suggestions? I will try to make mention on another live stream. Thanks!
Thanks for getting in touch! Is this the full text of your novel, or the full outline?
Can anyone explain the advantage of having a 0 book and putting your research directly into the "writing" portion where you would normally write your scenes, the way Kate is here? I'm not fully understanding why one would want to do it this way instead of chatting with the AI and placing the information you decide you want to use into the codex. When looking at the full novel context, your chats are not included, correct? So it's not like the AI will get confused about what storylines or information are part of your story? Or am I wrong about this? Confused newbie here...
Hi Jenna, I've made a book 0 to put in all my research to keep the main story 'clean' of all the random details that won't be relevant. Later, I will use this as information in future chats where I *will* go and put things in the codex, but at this stage, I don't know exactly what I want, and it saves me rewriting codex entries. And the sheer amount of information in book 0 would be far too much for the codex - I need to whittle it down and rewrite bits in my own words. You can use text replacement prompts on these too, for shortening etc. -Kate
You're zero book is basically your story Bible. You keep all your details in there and only put what you need for the book that you're working on in your codex.
Great vid. How does one do a prompt that doesn't reference the codex?
Check out our cloning prompts vid (ua-cam.com/video/rbMd6-wYXtY/v-deo.html), and then you can remove the part that talks about the codex <codex>{context.codex}</codex> :) -Kate

Hello Novel Crafter Community! My name is Brady, and I am new to Novel Crafter and I don’t have the time to fully get up to speed with all the important aspects of the platform. To ensure that I don't start off on the wrong foot, I am looking for someone experienced to help me get off on the right foot. I need assistance with properly drafting a codex, selecting the right outline, and properly setting things up to make full use of Novel Crafter and its AI capabilities. I would be more than happy to discuss appropriate compensation for your time and expertise. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, Brady
Lol my first try woth this prompt and the AI misspelled my protagonist's name. I gave it Meredith and got Mekhedith.
Oh no -hides- What model was that? That's one hell of a spelling mishap!! -Kate
@@novelcrafter O1 mini. Later it decided my planet Naamru was Nekamru 🤭
@@novelcrafter is there going to be another part in this series? For scene beats? 🙏👍🥺
That's a great idea! I will add it to our list <3
This is a game changer for finding inconsistencies in plot and character actions.
"a novel comprises of"??? Someone who slaughters the language in that way has no business talking about novel writing or any other kind of writing.
Thx for the video. The scene doctor is fantastic. Please more of that stuff. I was away drom NC some time but now I am back for my next book. A lot has happened. Keep up the good work!
We're planning on some more prompt-orientated streams to help users so any requests are always appreciated. Glad to see you back! -Kate
Is there a prompt for the 12-act structure yet?
Not yet, but we'll do a video as soon as it's out :D -Kate
This is just way too difficult. Sheesh!
So when is the 'Strawberry' LLM being incorporated into Novelcrafter????
If you use OpenRouter, you can already use o1 in novelcrafter. It's a little different through OpenAI directly because of the usage tiers, so we always suggest using OR. -Kate
@@novelcrafter I went into Novelcrafter and did not see an option for o1, just GPT-40 and GP -4. Am I missing a prompt or something?
So, what exactly are the benefits to using open router through novelcrafter? Why not just use open router itself for text gens? I am new to this, so I'm looking for info.
Novelcrafter is a webapp that's designed to help you organize and track your world-building, characters, planning, novel structure, etc. It lets you hook up to AI so you can get AI-assisted ideation or text generation based on your novel's knowledge base. :)
Can you talk about how to create a prompt that emulates your own writing style using a writing sample? Sorry if you’ve already talked about this and I missed it. Thank you!
Dunno, but this video by the Nerdy Novelist might be of interest to you: ua-cam.com/video/nOTbUEMYmHI/v-deo.html
I noticed how many different prompts you have for specific purposes. I would really like to see a deep dive episode into those prompts and how to create our own.
Sylvaneth is a Warhammer AoS faction - watch out for GW lawyers! They’re vicious!
Good thing these are just prototype names! As someone who's only experience with warhammer is watching my brothers enter a model building shop, I safely didn't intentionally overlap, but if this project ever came to release, I'd rename all the AI-isms anyway! Thanks for the heads up :) -Kate
Please link the notion doc. We don't get the replay chat.
novelcrafter.link/livedocs-plotting-2 The chat should be up soon - UA-cam sometimes takes it's sweet time to upload them, but we've set it to appear :)
I've been writing longer beats (like, 500+ words) and asking the prompt for 1500-2000 words... Then I delete the last chunk that it wants to be a conclusion 😅
That is 100% the way to go with that - AI just really wants things to be concluded >< It's quite annoying, isn't it? -Kate
I love the way you insert edits/comments via the Edit codex entry! That was the one thing that was missing for me in NC: a way to tag or comment inline where I needed to fix something later. Solved! 🎉
I'm glad this helped you! It's a niche use-case for sure, but it's so helpful for tracking everything. I love using NC features for things that they're not designed for -Kate
I tried that prompt you linked on the livedocs "Snowflake Method / Plot v4.1" using a 10k word braindump and it did a bang up job! but i noticed in the prompt instructions that step 5 instructs that once we've got all characters objects and locations down, we should use the Prompt v4.2. Is that on the discord?
Yeah... I haven't finished writing that one yet lol. I've got intentions to, just not had the time to fully flesh it out. I'll add it to the discord once it's done though, along with part 1 ^^ -Kate
@@novelcrafter thanks Kate -- always impressed by what you and team do. appreciations.
This is a very useful intro. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! -Kate
Not sure what happened. I tried to join the Livestream in chat but couldn't type anything when I tried.
That's so strange! I'm not sure what might be causing that. We don't restrict anything, so it might be on UA-cams end? -Kate
Hi, new to this. How do you choose a model in novelcrafter once you have connected open router?
If you want to use a model that isn't in the system prompts, go to our creating/cloning custom prompts video, that way you can access the entire gamut that OpenRouter provides :) -Kate
I'm finding AI more useful in critiquing than in generating ideas or prose. I would disagree that AIs don't understand pacing. This is what I got from Claude. I fed in the whole text of HG Well's The Time Machine. This is only one query. I asked over 30 different questions about character personalities, character arcs, dialogue, grammar, subplots, themes. --- List chapters with pacing issues. Give the chapter number and title. Explain each choice. Here are some chapters that could potentially have pacing issues: Chapter IV - Time Travelling: This chapter contains a very long, detailed description of the Time Traveller's journey through time. While evocative, the extensive focus on the visual effects of rapid time travel may slow the narrative momentum. Chapter VIII - Explanation: This chapter is almost entirely exposition, with the Time Traveller theorizing about the future society. While important for worldbuilding, the lack of action or plot development could cause the pacing to drag. Chapter X - When Night Came: The extended sequence of the Time Traveller wandering in the dark and his internal musings, while atmospheric, slows the forward momentum of the plot considerably. Chapter XIV - The Further Vision: This chapter, describing the Time Traveller's journey to the far future, is quite long and descriptive. While fascinating, it comes late in the story and may detract from the urgency of the main narrative. These observations are based on analyzing the text as a newly written work, as you requested. The pacing choices may serve artistic or thematic purposes that aren't immediately apparent from this perspective.
