My interest in, and admiration for Bernard Haitink was all about his contribution to performances of Mahler. For that period in the 1960's and 1970's, when a great revival of Mahler's music occurred, he was one of the leading contributors. A series of performances in the mid 1980's, with the RCO, cemented his position as a pre-eminent interpreter of Mahler. Those performances now remain as a monument to music making at it's finest, and representative of some of the greatness of Western civilisation.

I remember this. Some TV programs were produced by an independent company (then in Japan a TV program was produced internally within a broadcasting company) when HvK came to Japan together with Berlin Phiihamoniker in 1981.
