Honda EU2200i service and long term storage prep
This is a demonstration of my procedure to service and store a Honda inverter generator. I own several that can go years between use so proper storage is critical to ensuring they start up when needed.

Received a 1960s Honda EM300 unused from a friend. Cleaned the points, added oil and it started on the first pull. Purchased in the 60s by his father and never used. At only 300 watts it is more of a museum piece than a tool, and will live its life out on my shelf of treasures.

what rpm?
Is those the actual exhaust pipes there? Why are they so close to the water? Wouldnt the water like, go into the exhaust...? Im not very smart
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the engine is elevated above water level, meaning even if the exhaust tips were submerged, the water wouldn’t make it vertically up and to the engine, as the engine is above the water level. There would need to be water being pumped up into the exhaust to actually reach the engine. It’s the same reason outboard boat engines have the exhaust under the water, it muffles the exhaust, but since the engine itself is 2/3 feet up above the water, water never makes it into the engine, even when it’s off. Easiest way to think of it is like dipping the last inch of a straw into water, only the submerged portion fills, the portions above the water don’t fill up.
I appreciate your easy to follow step-by-step video. Just what I needed to learn !
Thanks, glad it helped! I’m going to make more for every generator I own. This was my first.
I actually do the exact same steps with my equipment, even blowing a bit of air into the tank, to push out the rest of the fuel in the lines, out of the carb drain. About the only thing I can add to this, is that if I have the time, I will leave the cap off the fuel tank and leave the unit outside on a sunny, dry, windy day, to really let every drop of gas evaporate, if possible. You have a good textbook process and I agree with it.
Leaving the tank open is a great idea. Getting every drop of gas out is the best way to ensure trouble free restart when you need to use it!
@ with some units that have a tank that’s impossible to get every drop out of, like the EU3000 and EU6500, I get as much gas out as I can, then add a few ounces of marvel oil to the tank and swish it around. And I leave it in there. Before startup again, I open the carb drain and the old marvel runs out. It protects against rust in the tank and corrosion in the carb
I use two stroke oil for the same thing. I never tried marvel mystery oil.
👍👍
Nice video. Thanks for taking the time to publish. On question, did you use a compressor to blow into the tank? Any particular advice on this step?
Just my mouth. It takes barely any pressure.

Sweet Detroit 🎶
Those Volvo D4 penta‘s 7gph sounding good yet?
@@drjimb0311 Volvo is a weird way of pronouncing Cummins. There is absolutely no way a D4 could move this. Most repower this hull with Cummins ISM11’s.
@ i’m gonna put two of them in my 31 Bertram & see what happens.
@@car2069 I didn’t realize it was in a hat what is that thing 50 foot?
What poor Technology.. no preheat or glow System
Its OLD! 🤣
Just run it like you slammed your finger in the door...they love that
Love the sound of Detroit diesel in the morning.
I love the sound of.those detroit diesels. Years ago an oil company in my area had a fleet of brockways that had detroit 8V71 or 8V92 diesels. The trucks had twin stacks and the sound was wonderful !!
Jakes on an rv is wild
Can that boat plane with those motors? Doesn't look like it's quite on plane.
They weren't designed for boats but they were damned good marine engines
Turn diesel into noise
I can smell the diesel fumes lol.
I had 2 Johnson Towers 6-71 Turbocharged in a 43 ft Ocean Alexander that put out 485 HP each and they sounded sooo sweet.
Bus Grease Monkey would die seeing those start, boy they are in such bad shape and need a severe tune.
He is welcome to come tune em!
Are they both the same age? The second one started different than the first one
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist they are the originals installed in 1969!
@@car2069 nice 👍🏻 Good to see the old two strokes still doing thing
That's awesome.. post more!
How come so much white smoke at the start and poof all gone? What is causing the Smoke?
Lack of combustion = smoke. As soon as it is burning no smoke
One of the best sounds but worst engines made. More issues than any engine out there. Even yanmar was better.
I dont know about that… this one is celebrating its 55th birthday this year and still runs flawlessly.
Need to prime it bro
Sweet music....
Loud, happy, fairly reliable powerplants!!! Nice dude!
Yep! I love em. Thank you!
Detroit diesels hands down the best engines
If you preheat you won’t have the issue of slow start
Keep them maintained and they will outlast the boat
all you have to do is put a space heater on a timer in the engine room!
Not a real expert in marine diesels, just wondering what is the consumption?
Around 1 mile per gallon!
I love hearing Detroit's. amazing!!
i think i can, i think i can....
Block heaters would be sweet
Pass everything on the water except the fuel dock. Sweet sound.
Detroits. The best way to convert diesel to sound
Those Detroit's we're hearing ?
yes, a few other videos on my channel with a lot more engine sounds =)
@@car2069 question what kind of fuel econ with those ? Thank you.
@@ZoneTelevision 1.5nmpg at 8 knots. 2 gallons per mile on plane like this video.
Cisco's sport fishing
If I ever buy a sport fishing boat I can tell you for a fact it won't have Detroits in it. I couldn't stand listening to that noise all day.
They sound a lot better than some others!
@@car2069 I don’t care what the engines sound like. I don’t want to hear them at all. It’s a boat, not a semi tractor. You go out in the middle of the ocean, alone, where the noise doesn’t entertain anyone.
@@UltraMagaFan2 they all make noise unless you go gas.
@@car2069 No shit Sherlock. Of course they’re going to make noise. All I was saying is something like a pair of Cat 3406Es or an MTU 12V 2000 is a lot quieter than those Detroits. 2 stroke diesels are notoriously loud.
@@UltraMagaFan2 they all sound the same when the engine room is insulated. My buddy has cummins and its pure ear piercing turbo whine. Nothing is perfect, and for the money these old two strokes get it done
Why do amarican diesel engines alsways start this bad…..
2 stroke diesels sound so awesome.
Double Breasted Yamahs's
Really fun when the mechanical rack freezes up while off, which means its in a wide open position, start engine, and it goes to complete runaway. Best hope the turbo inlet trip valve works.
It would be interesting to equip each of these engines with a pair of Thermostart flame heaters inserted so they poked through the airbox covers and directly heated the air on cold starts before it was drawn into the cylinders..... Hot air helps compression ignition to 'fire"..... Many older diesels used these flame heaters in their metal intake manifolds and it beats using ether for safety and engine longevity....
It wasn’t only the sound but the smell of salt and diesel smoke. On party boats out of NH back in the 80’s with my grandfather. Will never forget those trips.
My goodness ...SWEET
Nice. The wood grain on the lower part of the pole left in the video looks like an owl.
Beautiful sounds.
