I 3D Printed the World’s Longest Lithophane Photo – A 135-Hour Dragon Masterpiece!
This is my biggest 3D printing project yet quite literally! After 135 hours of non-stop printing, I’ve created the world’s longest 3D-printed lithophane-featuring a stunning Chinese dragon! Measuring an incredible 4 feet or 1.2meters in length! this massive project wasn’t without its challenges. From unexpected failures to crucial learning moments, this print tested my skills, patience, and perseverance. But in the end, the result was incredible!
In this video, I’ll take you behind the scenes of this ambitious project, showcasing the design process, the ups and downs of the print, and the final reveal. If you love 3D printing, lithophanes, or epic projects, this is a journey you don’t want to miss.

I wonder if you could make a bit that goes to the butterfly’s and make them work off the filament going though
If you attempt it again perhaps you could add an extrusion bracket from the top of the printer with bearings to keep it central and pressed down on the bed, kind of like how a roller coaster bogie keeps the cars attached to the track, it could eliminate the need to glue on supports and support it when it leaves the bed.
Woww godd
That's pretty awesome!
Appreciate it, it was a long print but well worth it.
I was so excited to see how you pulled this off
Thanks man! I was excited to pull of this beast as well!
💕👍
Nice video! I think you missed some steps for taking some screws or removing tape. It doesn't affect the printing at all. Nice job! Love the video.
OMG! I was tightening pretty much every screw I could and the print head would still wobble. Great tutorial, you said me a lot of frustration.
Glad to see hes still alive
Great vid
Great video, thank you for sharing, learned a lot.
thanks for the guide, but does the nozzle and or the type of filament changes the outcome of the print quality? Ive tried all the settings you provided here in the video but everytime i need a verry bright light to make it work. In some posts on Facebook ect some just keep their prints in front of a window and its great, if i keep my prints in front of a window even in full sunlight ... no light comes through, im a bit at a loss lol
This is ridiculous!!!! I am doing this. Can't wait to get my first one done.
How have you got on with this, I've just ordered a CR-30. Do you think it's a decent machine?
It’s decent but the quality is not super great. It’s good at what it can do which is long parts that other printers cannot.
Thanks for sharing the setup process. Seeing a cat in the video just made it perfect.
Thank you very much!
You didnt weigh the magnet for the bed
What kind of filiment did you use??
some heroes are not wears cloak...
Thanks for the great tutorial. In my case: 120-24.6=95.4, 100/95.4=1.048, 1.048*93(for stock E3V2)=97.48
My free stls on Printables
Hi do you know how I can set e steps if they aren’t showing up in settings I have the same printer
Thanks for posting, just received mine in the mail
Does this work on the ender 3 too? Or just the v2?
I love objective reviews. Very concise too, thank you!
I don’t really understand the timing.
best video every
How do you do the full sheet support overhang angle mine seems to have gaps where yours is flat
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you sooooo much
You’re very welcome!
Nice! next step. Klipper on the Cr-30
Why did you do 120?????
Nice work, but i got a problem with that;/ After creating new mesh it makes first point, and go to second, but then needle of 3dtouch dont touching bed and it says "leveling complete". U knot how to repair that?
That’s quite strange, is it possible your z stop is too high or your bed is too low so it can’t reach the bed? That would be mechanical related. If it’s not mechanical i would re load all the firmware to see if it’s firmware related.
Looks awesome! Got an stl?
I'm new to 3d printing but this is my 1st 3d printer and it will arrive tommorow, i know its a bit overkill but i think its better to start with good equipment like it has ai tracking soo i will do less mistakes❤
Same I bought it as my first 3d printer
At 0:21...that silicone spacer look too soft to be really effective.
Hey do you need to change settings in your firmware for the orbiter v2?
This is all fine and dandy but let me ask this. Why does it seem my Ender 3 choose a different z axis each time I turn on or try to print a different from SD card. Then when I run bed level it is way off then try to print won't stick. Run bed level again and way off but back the other direction. Then print will stick with a 50/50 chance if needing glue stick.
So I did as you said but when I print it doesn't work because it's thick and light can't pass through so I end up with nothing. Any tips?
What about starting a fire?
I think that this gives a realistic view of the typical product development cycle. What's somewhat rare is the apology, walking through how the initial failure happened with full disclosure/methodology behind the fix, and then pushing the info out to the community. The only way to avoid this is to product test for 30+ hours for reliable R&D, but this ain't a large corporation like Gantri or EEVE with large budgets.
The blue one that broke, not only had the weak spot, that print looked weak, I understand it has to be lights, but for those aplications, but it should be thicker and almost solid. At least, that's what I found for my designs
This, let's see the original done at 100% infill. Though these extra ribs still make a tone of sense.
Hi Thanks for the wonderful video and design. I was wondering if I printed this mount out, what material should I use if I wanted to print with PET filament from recycled plastic bottles at 260c?
whats rockpaperscizzorcube_soild V2?
Thanks for advising and fixit, im usin old version with no issues at all, but its time to upgrade it! Thank you so much
"This is why you shouldn't let your nuts hang to low" 😂😂😂😂😂
Hello, excellent work, the CR30 was driving me crazy, I knew I had to change it from Bowden to direct, but as they told you, the video on the web is all very out of date, Thanks again for sharing it, I just have to ask you what length of the new screws you put in?
I used some M5x40 screws, 35mm would also work. FYI I found a weak point in my 3D design, so I updated the models today on Printables and Thingiverse with the new version. I wouldn't recommend using the original version if you printed it out. Mine started to crack after 10+ hours.
didnt work
Sorry to hear that, it's possible you could be having another issue, maybe check all your cable connections. And hopefully it's not a damaged motherboard.
Such a cool build! Helped me understand more about how an engine works
Absolutely! Glad it was helpful and entertaining!
ASMR: 3D Printing edition. Satisfying!
Extremely satisfying!
So cool! And it really helped me understand how an engine works.👍
For sure! It was a fun build too!
