Update! Back at it and here's what has been goin on.
A lot has changed in the past several months. As usual with life, seems to never be at the best time. Here is an update and explanation on what has been going on and insight into why I have been absent from this world of youtube video making. Trying to get where I can manage my time better and get back at it and hopefully can get more videos up soon. The neon sign is back to all of its former glory, awesome Dana 60 diff, G-body monte, and a northstar with a coolant leak (shocker there). Thank you all for the interest and support!

Part 1: 1956 Buick Dynaflow Rebuild.
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
Here is the first vid on the rebuild of a 1956 Buick Special transmission. The good ole Dynaflow! Very odd unit! Ill do vids on sub-assemblies and explain the operation of each as best I can as I go. This one, as most do, leaked profusely and was slipping. This explains the Front drum operation and the rebuild of that component.
The 74 Eldorado is getting its HORNS!!!!!
Переглядів 1233 роки тому
My friend Chris Laycook's dad loved this car when I bought it. These horns were in his office for well over 60 years. Before he passed away he asked Chris to get them out of storage and give them to me so I could put them on the eldo. Rusty, a friend who owns ARK Millwork, had some free time so I got the car down to him, he fixed them back solid, and is making a nicely contoured base plate to m...
GM 70s.-early 80s cruise control transducer explained in layman's terms
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
If your cruise doesn't work on your fine GM machine maybe this will help. After reading my factory Cadillac manuals and understanding how the transducer works, I felt I would try to explain as I can in layman's terms to aid in better diagnosis of what/where the problem may be. If you're like me, was confusing as hell, yet after understanding, not that bad to diagnose. Several systems at play: m...

Correcting transmission mount alignment. 454/TH400 Suburban
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
I'm sure at some point most of us have had to deal with misalignment of drive-line mounts to frame locations. In most cases it is simpler than you'd expect to correct. Depending on where it is off and how the mounts are designed will determine the best action to take. In the case of this suburban, loosening the engine mount to frame brackets just a little to move them less than 1/8" was all tha...
TH400 someone rebuilt with a bad forward clutch drum.
Переглядів 1,6 тис.3 роки тому
So this gentleman just bought an amazing restored 1977 suburban with a 454 and TH400. While going through receipts found one for the 'rebuild'. Needless to say I was concerned at the low cost. First day he takes it out of town and the transmission fails close to our shop. Removed the trans and disassembled it. A ton of metal in this unit and no signs of the usual culprits. After parts were clea...

Part 12: 4R70W to Dana 20 swap from Manual trans
Переглядів 1183 роки тому
In this vid you'll see the valve body cleaned, inspected, and then the install of the sonnax components. Be mindful of torque and allow time for the thick gasket under the plate to compress. Usually after 15 mins and a couple torque checks on bolts they are good to go.

In this vid you'll see the reverse servo and accumulators installed in case. Also the EPC and linkage assembly goes in. Then the valve body tear down. SOOO glad those gaskets peeled right off :)
Part 10: 4R70W to Dana 20 swap from Manual trans
Переглядів 1073 роки тому
In this vid you'll see the pump assembled and installed in the case. The piston installer isn't required but makes the install simpler.....usually. Be careful when torquing the pump to case bolts, seen many strip and have had to fix several. I always Helicoil.
Part 9: 4R70W to Dana 20 swap from Manual trans

In this vid you'll see the OD Servo installation, Int clutch pack, and the pump assembly. Note the OD Band location as installed. Be patient and careful, it can be a pain sometimes. The spring is under A LOT of pressure.
Part 8: 4R70W to Dana 20 swap from Manual trans
Переглядів 953 роки тому
In this vid you'll see the rear carrier assembly, geartrain, center support, shell, and drums installed. Note where snap ring sits beneath reverse band. Before you install the Int, clutch pack DO NOT forget the OD servo must be in place.

2025 update. I checked Oreillly First Call, current FelPro cover gasket # is RDS55034, About $12 either there or Amzon. 473443 seal $12, 470380v seal $7, 470088 $14.
Where is part 2 of this
Thank you
After doing the shop manual diagnosis test on my transducer, it appears the transducer needs replacing. That is, the cruise light illuminated when I hotwired the light terminal to ground. This test is on page 15-7, Para. 2. Do you know if the transducer is repairable for this electrical fault or should I look for a replacement? Thanks!
How did you remove the oil slinger
Mine had a filter under solenoid??
2004 jeep wranger wining in firt gear fluid level right in the middle between cold and hot .jw shop time jeep and wood channel. Thank you if you have time to reply 😊
What parts are necessary, to use the later filter, in a 65-67 St400??
Crap p rods, conn rods, heads, q jet, crap intake, too high a distributor, not enough parts made, no steel crank, awful balancer, stock oil pumps stink. They loose prime, cast rods, cast pistons. 4800 rpm limit. Heavy crank, Need I say more. Bloodviking, engine builder
I have a '75 Deville (essentially) it's really a Caribou pickup Caddy, but it's a Deville as far as the drive train goes. My cruise will engage, but I have to keep tapping the gas while engaged if I go up hill just to keep it working. not sure if the contacts need to be cleaned of if it's something else. BTW, where is the servo located, is it inside the cabin or outside?
Cliff Taylor
sent you a message on FB about a gear set
Why did you convert your TH400 to a "short shaft"....what was the necessity? I am considering throwing a GV behind a 500 caddy and TH400, but you are the first and only evidence I've seen so far of anyone who's actually done it.
Hi, I'm having issues removing the output adapter. Could you please provide side on the slide hammer?
By the way, thanks great for the straightforward, simple explanation in your video.
Suggestions on where to find a replacement? 1982 GMC C3500 Dually Diesel I'm having some difficulty I locating this one.
Did they make a bypasscable for this
I can't locate the transducer blon My 82 k5 blazer. Anyone know where it is physically located?
Should be mounted to the driver side fender well under the hood. I've yet to see it mounted anywhere else. If you locate your speedo cable coming out of the transmission it should run right to it. If you have the cruise button on your turn signal stick but your speedo just runs straight to the firewall, then a previous owner has probably deleted it. Currently trying to get it to work again on my 78 C10
Quick question: Theoretically if someone wanted to delete the cruise control transducer and vacuum servo, all they would need to do is somehow gear the two cables together. The first cable running from the dash to the transducer, and the second cable running from the transducer to the transmission. Wouldn’t this allow for the speedometer to continue working while also bypassing the whole cruise control system?
Should be able to just order the cable for the models without cruise control and go straight to the speedometer
Amazing how they came up with this stuff and it was all mechanical. I was recently working on the cruise servo on my 92 Buick and its electronic, at leasr partially. I was wondering how the heck they had cruise before the computer handled it.
I used dimes on my 472. They fit perfect and They're made Nickel stainless and it's got a coolness factor.
Andrew, I have a ‘79 Chevy Silverado K20 with a ‘74 454. I have the cruise control transducer that you broke down. I appreciated your description and knowledge. Would it be possible to talk to you about the transducer and get a lil expert knowledge from you. Absolutely willing to pay for your time. My speedometer has stopped working too
Another note on the dynaflow is it is very simple. Not much inside very similar to a model t Ford trans in operation. Buick thought it would be good to use it in the first year riviera with a 425 engine.
Early buick dynaflow was a horrible transmissions that evolved into the twin turbine transmissions in1956 to 1963 one of the best trans ever.
I have had to look this poblem up mine working wright I have 82 c-20 truck with a 6.2 engine thanks👍👍😁😎
I'm working on a st400 on a 71 Riviera. You clearly know your stuff! Would you be willing to give some advice? I'm a little stumped
Thanks brotha, I'm planning on doing a dual radiator fan conversion and I don't have a programmer for the fan set up. So this will help bypass that and just use a relay & temp switch sensor
Hi, do you have a contact info? Like to send you a differential for repair. Thanks. Rick
Hello dear man! I am writing to you from Russia. I have a Dodge Nitro 3.7L automatic transmission 42 rle. I lost reverse speed, sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not. please tell me what is the reason for the lack of speed? I will be very grateful to you.
100% same thing just happened to me, and it is a lot of $$$ to pay someone to fix. i know, i couldn't figure it out
F! Why couldn’t I find this video 3 years ago! My truck did the same exact thing! I went through everything and I mean everything your video had all the solutions in one stop. Hopefully more people will comment and make this video more accessible to others. ❤
Have you ever dealt with code P1745 Line pressure too high too long
Gosh.. I wish he would load the next videos in this series. He did such a great job on this one.
I have one on my 81 Z28 that doesn’t work. The carb has been replaced with a Holley 4160. I want to bypass the mechanism altogether with a 1 piece cable.
@unicornsteaks6769 did you end up bypassing it with a 1 piece cable? Thinking of doing the same thing soon with my 83 Z28
@@BRYb0Ss11 no, I haven’t done it yet. Other things keep popping up. Next up is replacing leaking rear brake line. 😉
they changed that gasket, those tabs sticking out were used to staple the two gaskets together for the cover gasket. That's what those tabs were for.
I drive an 11 ctsv wagon as well, last night I was driving on the freeway and the car seems to be swaying at higher speeds. When I go 80mph it feels like the car is being pushed by a strong gust of wind only way I can explain it. Could this be my problem?
Thank you very well explained.
thanks so much, hopefully i can fix mine off of a 75 Eldorado. if so this video would save me a hell of alot of money
Hi, very helpful video! But you say 555-02, but the cup you’re holding shows 555- 3 digits 😅 Please help me plug off my AIR ports!
I just looked at a '16 Optima with a leak, it has the same crack.
I got a customer car in went into limp mode. Found someone installled 2005 rle withouth vlp into this 2010 chrysler 300 with vlp. Can i mod something to run it or is do i just tell this guy to buy another trans and have me install it.
Do you have a shop? I have a 61 Dynaflow that is not going into high stall mode.
Where are you located?
Is a 61 Dynaflow the same?
Part 2?
Saved me from my headache thanks
I’m eliminating head light vacuum system on mine going with electric ones but don’t want to eliminate cruise how can I go about it? Can you help?
what type of vehicle? Vette? So long as cruise servo has good manifold vac to it should work.
Does the fuel pump eccentric have anything to do with end play on these 472, 500 engines ? I sold a used 472 eccentric to a guy on ebay, He left me Negative feedback. He claims in his own words.......THE NED OF THE ECCENTRIC HAD BEE GROUND OFF . THAT MAKES IT WORTHLES THAT HAOW CADILLAC SET THE END PLAY IN THE CAMSHAFT
I call bs because my understanding is how the distributor drive and all works it keeps the cam 'pushed back' onto the thrust surface on front of block.
Like the info I have a 67 st400 in my car with a 71 472 caddy built buy Larry Kuz from cmd about 23 yes ago still runs good.
I HAVE A 53 BUCK ENGINE RUNS GOOD TIL I PUT IT INTO GEAR, IS THER ANYTHING IN THE TRANS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO DIE WHEN PUT INTO GEAR?
I don't see how it could. No lock up clutch in conv (fluid coupler) and when in gear input stops turning so even if trans had internal cross leak and binding of a servo wouldn't kill engine. does it also die when put in reverse?
