Impressive! Crossed the Pacific, landed in south Australia, travelled north through the outback to Northern territory and ready to go.

I was on Marine Corps Super Squad in 1979. At that time we competed at the Regimental level. I was an 0331 Machine Gunner with 1st Battalion 6th Marines. Our Super Squad represented the 6th Marine Regiment and competed in Quantico, VA. We took 3rd place out of 12 Regiments. There were 3 Regiments in a Marine Corps Division. With the four Divisions and three Regiments per Division, we had a total of 12 Regiments competing for 1st place. In our mind, if we didn’t get 1st place we would be no better than last place. That’s just how Marines think. Unfortunately there were no medals given in those days.

Fought with the ROK Marines on joint ops in I Corps, South Vietnami in 1969 and trained with them near Pohang as a member of BLT 2/4 in 1976 for 45 days.

My dad GYSGT Fernando A Quinones served in the 1st tank battalion FMF 1st marine division, as a 1812 tanker during the liberation of Kuwait (he was a sgt at the time) he passed in the year 2005. I was only 3 at the time and so i missed out on his experiences and stories. Thank you for posting this! Feels like ive learned a decent bit.

And all that is why the Marine Corps needs to keep its tanks. What a political mistake that will hound the Corps until they have to take the time to start all over again, and it will cost the 0311 in lives.
