Assignment 9 Fish Passage Barriers
In this video I'll describe the process I used to answer the questions outlined in A9 - Assignment Fish Passage Barriers.
Fish passage barriers are a common issue facing the natural spawning movements of many fish species here in the PNW. We will focus on identifying some of the barriers located within a specific watershed which impact specific fish species. Your next assignment is to perform a series of selection queries & employ geoprocessing functions to better understand where fish passage barriers are located and what specific species of fish are impacted. Take care to employ techniques covered in the chapters as well as any additional strategies regarding map design and layout addressed in previous lessons. Questions to answer throughout the process are in Bold. Follow these basic instruction for completing and submitting your map:
1Download and Create
Navigate to the Oregon Geospatial Data Clearinghouse spatialdata.oregonexplorer.info/geoportal/
Download the following map layers:
Oregon County 2015
Oregon Fish Habitat Distribution 2022
Oregon Watershed Boundary Data Set 2015
Oregon Hydrography (National Hydrography Dataset) 2020
Oregon Fish Passage Barriers 2020
Use this data to perform the subsequent tasks and answer the following questions:
Add the individual layers to a blank ArcPro Project. Safe this .aprx file so you can work on this assignment periodically through the week.
Focusing on Columbia County.
How many fish passage barriers are their within the county? Which database did you use for your answer?
What type of fish passage barrier is the most common?
Using the Oregon Watershed Boundary Data Set (2015)
Add the WBDHU12 feature class. This represents the hydrologic unit boundary to the 12-digit (6th) level within the national database.
Select "Scappoose Creek" within the WBDHU12 feature class. (Create a layer from selected feature, displaying only this feature).
Export this feature to a feature class and save it within the WDB_Oregon_State geodatabase.
Add this a new feature class to your map. (We will be clipping all of the other feature classes to this layer).
How many acres in the Scappoose Creek Watershed?
Using the Scappoose Creek layer clip the following layers:
Oregon Hydrography (National Hydrography Dataset) 2020 (Select the NHDFlowline feature class within the Hydrography geodatabase)
Oregon Fish Habitat Distribution 2022 (Select Coho and Winter Steelhead feature classes within the FHD Publication 2020 goedatabase)
Oregon Fish Passage Barriers 2020
Focus on McNulty Creek and Scappoose Creek (this features are within the Oregon Hydrography (National Hydrography Dataset) 2020).
What are the primary fish passage barriers along McNulty Creek? How many fish passage barriers are there along this stream reach?
What are the primary fish passage barriers along Scappoose Creek? How many fish passage barriers are there along this stream reach?
What type of feature is McNulty Creek?
What type of feature is Scappoose Creek?
Using the clipped Oregon Fish Habitat Distribution 2022 feature class answer the following:
What species of fish are found within McNulty Creek?
What species of fish are found within Scappoose Creek?
Make a map which includes the fish passage barriers along McNulty and Scappoose Creek within the Scappoose Creek Watershed.
Properly title your map and create a layout map which includes the following essential elements:
Appropriate thematic title
Map legend
North arrow
Ratio (Text) scale
Scale bar
Your name and date created

Determining Tree Age from a Core Sample
If given only the interior angles with 1 bearing, how to plot the traverse, how will i know the direction of lines?
This was a clear explanation, with all the work laid out on how you got to your answers! So, helpful. Can you please post another video of the same quality with a different closed polygon, but take it a step further and explain how to find the coordinates of each station with departures and latitudes?
Masaya computations na yan pag actual na, tas ikaw mag hahabol matapos computation, tas kokolitin ka ng man power silip ng silip if ano kinocompute mo
How you know the minute amd seconds tho?
The interior angles are generally provided by the original survey
Thankyou, recently got into a few races and was asked to do this but had no clue how 😂 thanks man 👍
Glad I could help! Good luck in your races. Dual recording definitely adds to rider transparency.
Common issues in our families this days
Ayy ka bobo ... Why you know the seconds
Nice example, thanks
37. Given thc following azimuths and lengths of a traverse, what is the closure error and precision? LINE AZIMUTH LENGTH AB 29021'23" 560.06 BC 304039'45" 484.14 CD 189052'53" 375.48 DE 226012'23" 311.52 113017'43" 449.79 a. Closure error = 0.25, Preclslon = 1/10,000 b. Closure error = 0.20, Preclslon = 1/10,667 c. Closure error = 0.25, Preclslon = 1/10,667 d. Closure error = 0.20, Precision = 1/10,000
Sir please for me one question
Very Good video. It solved my problem. Kudos to Jason.
Nice video. Why did you first draw one random point and then draw fishnet. What is the reason behind random sample
The systematic layout from the fishnet is essentially random but there is some assumed bias created by the constraints of the unit size and the point spacing. I try to limit the bias by adding the random point.
Thanks for doing these videos Jason!
My pleasure! Hopefully you're finding them helpful.
