If Jessie saw this scene, she'd feel very sorry for Buzz, considering the fact that he's her boyfriend. Jessie: Howdy, UA-cam fans. This is Jessie the Cowgirl, and right now, I'm watching the first Toy Story, released in 1995. And this is the part where Buzz realizes that he's a toy. (In the video, Scud backs out and heads down the stairs. Buzz turns to exit the room when he hears...) Space Commander: (on TV) Calling Buzz Lightyear!! Come in Buzz Lightyear!! Jessie: What is that? Space Commander: (on TV) This is Star Command. Buzz Lightyear! Do you read me?! Buzz: Star Command! (Buzz opens up his wrist communicator and is just about to speak into it when he is interrupted.) Kid #1: (on TV) Buzz Lightyear responding! Read you loud and clear! Jessie: Who said that? Buzz is supposed to say it. (Buzz turns around to see...a television set. Buzz's space ranger logo is on the screen over a field of stars. The image quickly changes to two young boys playing in their backyard with a Buzz Lightyear doll.) Space Commander: (on TV) Buzz Lightyear, Planet Earth needs your help! Kid #1: (into toy wrist communicator) On the way! Male Chorus: BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!!! Jessie: Whoa! (Buzz reacts with confusion at what he is watching. He walks slowly towards the television set.) TV Announcer: The world's greatest superhero! Now the world's greatest TOY! (In the TV commercial, the Buzz Lightyear doll is now out of the box and being displayed.) TV Announcer: Buzz has it all! Locking wrist communicator! Kid #1: Calling Buzz Lightyear. TV Announcer: Karate chop action! Kid #2: Wow! (With every feature demonstrated on the TV, Buzz compares the same feature on himself.) Jessie: What is this?! TV Announcer: Pulsating laserlight! Kid #2: Total annihilation! TV Announcer: Multi-phrase voice simulator! TV Buzz: (sampled voice) It's a secret mission in uncharted space! (Buzz presses the same button on his uniform.) Buzz: (sampled voice) It's a secret mission in uncharted space! TV Announcer: And best of all... (big "monster truck" voice) HIGH-PRESSURE-SPACE-WINGS!! TV Buzz: To Infinity and Beyond! (On the TV screen, the Buzz Lightyear action figure appears to be launched through the air. The words: NOT A FLYING TOY flash across the bottom of the screen.) TV Announcer: (non-excited lawyer voice) Not a flying toy. Jessie: What?! (Buzz slowly shakes his head in wide-eyed disbelief.) TV Announcer: Get your Buzz Lightyear action figure and save a galaxy near you! Male chorus: BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!!! (The image on the screen changes to a shot of hundreds of Buzzes in their boxes lining either side of a store aisle.) Local Announcer: Available at all Al's Toy Barn outlets in the tri-county area. Jessie: How could this happen?! I always thought Buzz was a real spaceman! (Buzz is stricken. He looks down at his wrist communicator and opens it. Molded on the underside of the wrist communicator cover are three words: "MADE IN TAIWAN." The song "I Will Go Sailing No More" begins.) Randy Newman: (singing) Out among the stars I sailed way beyond the moon. (Buzz walks dejectedly out of the den and down the hallway.) Jessie: Poor Buzz. Randy Newman: (singing) In my silver ship I sailed in a dream that ended too soon. (As he passes the top of the stairwell he pauses to look up through the railing at a small window. It is open, revealing the blue sky beyond.) Randy Newman: (singing) Now I know exactly who I am and what I'm here for. (A bird flies past. The taunting voice of Woody echoes in his head.) Woody's voice: You are a toy! You can't fly! Jessie: Woody! Randy Newman: (singing) And I will go sailing no more. (Buzz bows his head, defeated. Jessie sees this, touches her hand to the screen, as if trying to comfort him.) Jessie: I'm sorry what you've just seen, Buzz. (Slowly Buzz raises his head, determination in his eyes. He slams the offending wrist communicator shut, as if to deny its message of "Made in Taiwan." Buzz climbs up the railing to the banister. This brings a smile to Jessie's face.) Randy Newman: (singing) But no, it can't be true. I could fly if I wanted to. Jessie: If you think you can fly, Buzz, you just gotta try. (Buzz pops open his wings, and aims himself towards the window above.) Randy Newman: (singing) Like a bird in the sky, if I believed I could fly. Why, I'd fly... Buzz: To Infinity and Beyond! (Buzz leaps off the banister... and falls. Jessie reacts with shock and sadness.) Jessie: No... (In slow motion Buzz watches his square of blue sky pull farther away from him as he plummets to the floor below. Jessie gasps as she sees him crash on the entryway floor. Buzz opens his eyes to see... his severed left arm. The broken arm lies a few inches away from his now empty arm socket. Tears fill Jessie's own eyes.) Randy Newman: (singing) Clearly I will go sailing no more. (Buzz drops his head back in defeat. The song ends.) Jessie: (tearfully) Oh, Buzz... (She falls to her knees and breaks down in heavy sobs, her head in her hands. Buzz comes up behind her.) Buzz: What is it, Jessie? (Jessie stops crying, turns to see Buzz standing behind her.) Jessie: Buzz? Oh, hi, I didn't see you. Buzz: What's the matter? Jessie: Nothing, really. Uh... (Buzz sees Toy Story playing on the TV.) Buzz: Ohh. You're watching the first Toy Story. Jessie: Yes. I've been watching it. Um... I got to the part where you found out you were a toy. When you leapt off the stairs and towards the window, I thought you were really gonna fly. But instead, you fell onto the stairway and broke your arm. That part made me cry. (Buzz looks at her sympathetically.) Buzz: I understand, Jessie. But that was a long time ago, four years before Woody and I met you. Jessie: Yeah. But I can't tell you how sorry I felt for you in this scene. (Buzz smiles gently at her, puts his hand on her cheek.) Buzz: I felt sorry for myself too... and depressed. But after Sid strapped me to a rocket in an attempt to blow me up, Woody taught me something really important -- life's only worth living if you're bein' loved by a kid. (Woody steps up and smiles at them.) Woody: He's got a point here. (Buzz looks over to his best friend and smiles back.) Buzz: I learned that from the best. Jessie: I don't know what I'd do without you guys. You are the best friends a cowgirl like me could ever have. Woody: Thanks, Jess. I'm glad to hear you say that. Buzz: So am I. (The three toys smile.)
