Just to clarify, it is a kadazan dusun dance. Kadazan Dusun often vary by kampung in their culture and tradition, some of them also practise the dance above. It’s because most kadazan dusuns have a history of mixing in with other groups. My own kadazan dusun tribe which compromises of thousands are all mixed (or almost all) and we incorporated different cultures into our own. From Malay , India, Arabic, Chinese, Pakistani and other natives groups for example.

Sabah ada Murut juga. Tarian ni bukan Murut saja yg mempraktikannya, Kadazan/dusun pun ada cuma tidak sepopular Murut.

Murut in Sarawak yang kamu maksudkan is the Lun bawang, ini Murut Sabah (murut sabah ada beberapa pecahan), do research.. Lun Bawang in Sabah lebih dikenali sebagai Lun Dayeh, but tidak di kategorikan Murut..

@BlackBannerz They don't look so different to me. Thais for example, can be distinguished from Malays more easily. But overall Southeast Asians in general look quite similar.

@@jackjackyphantom8854 Thats kinda like saying the English and French are literally the same. Like yeah both are white but there are clear cultural and language differences. Same with Malays and Javanese.

Agreed. Thos not from sabah please get the facts right. In sabah we are united and respect each others culture or religion. Who would want the joget to be called sumazau and vice versa. In the weet if someone was to dance salsa and you said thats a disco dance from america, most people will look at you 2 kinds.... And of course worse if a tourist come to our country wanting to participate in a sumazau dance and expecting bamboos...... Not going to happen@#£&@

@@keithfernando292 Old comment but no we Kadazan-Dusun also have this dance but it varies by Kampung. Tho most Kadazan Dusun groups have mixed their cultures today due to ethnic and racial mixing.

However I have never seen a bamboo performance in any kadazan or dusun ceremony all my life. the kadazan dusun dance is the sumazau.. no bamboo involved. when they do it in ceremonies in mixed marriage is when they may do the dance but that would be from the other party. Like the joget, is primarily from the malay culture, the ngajat is a sarawak and you cannot say its a kadazan dusun dance just because its in borneo. We are all proud of our own cultures and appreciate the difference. if truly there is then fine but otherwise i think always better to get the facts right and dont mix it up or generalise it ... confuses tourists,,, this would be like generalisting tuak and lihing as the same and making it synonymus just because they are rice wine.. the taste is distinct and totally different and one is from sarawak one is from sabah. Sometimes the tuak may taste a little like li hing but generally the taste is consistently different and only a lihing maker/drinker will tell you tuak is not lihing. The Magunatip is not a dance by the kadazan Dusun tribe. You Mayr say its from the KDM or Kadazan, dusun, murut community.. At least theres a chance to say which one . But to ommit murut and say it kadazan dusun is very misleading.

@@keithfernando292 Thanks, I still have to disagree. The dance using bamboo is a kadazan dusun dance as well, we all practice it. Muruts have their own version but kadazans have always had their own. I thought you were referring to the first part of the dance rather than the bamboo section as it’s a very common kadazan-dusun tradition. A lot of people get confused that only Murut people have this dance but this isn’t true at all, the bamboo dance is apart of both kadazan and dusun culture and something actively practise by us. I am part kadazan-dusun and mixed with other bornean indigenous group and other races as well. There is a lot of misconception by non-KDM about our culture, similar how a lot of people are confused with north and south bajau culture.

Kadazan dusun has this kind of dance too, buy yeah Sumazau is the popular one, but not the only dance.

Dusun is broad term bro we have Dusun Liwan, Dusun Tindal, Dusun Lotud, Dusun Tinagas etc. We may be called sub-etnik Dusun but we differs from each other we have our own dances, we have these dances with bamboo too.
