Mountain Strength & General Robustness. Exercise Routine For Runners
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
I have devised this routine from 10 years of running on both roads and mountains. I have taken the most effective exercises and put them together in a quick routine that hits all the important body parts, i.e. everywhere. Doing one set will only take roughly10 minutes and can be done after an easy run. Suggested starting point. Abs: Level 1 x 6 Level 2 x 4 Level 3 x 4 Goblet Squat: 1/3 body wei...
Pilates For Runners
Переглядів 7142 роки тому
These are not traditional ab exercises, crunches or sit ups. The focus is on quality of movement. When done correctly, it does not take many repetitions to feel a tremendous amount of work being done in the middle of the body. Stop before you lose control of the movements. This routine is really helpful for runners because it switches on deep, postural muscles that run through the middle of our...
Pistol Squats
Переглядів 1262 роки тому
Key Things To Think About: - slow, deliberate movement. Down and up with full control. Control every millimeter - Touch seat with glutes, but try not to rest your weight on it - Focus on keeping knee stable, in line with leg and foot. Try to avoid it from caving inwards This exercise can help improve a lot of areas simultaneously. Strength right through the leg, hips, core and back, as well as ...
Ab Circles
Переглядів 692 роки тому
This is a core exercise, not an arm exercise. The weight doesn't need to be very heavy, the big circles are trying to pull our torso around and we prevent that happening by squeezing the abs and glutes hard. Try and maintain full height and control every inch of the movement. Avoid letting the torso twist or wobble at any point. The arms should be soft, if they begin to ache it is time to stop!...
Goblet Squat
Переглядів 732 роки тому
The Goblet Squat is my favourite strength exercise for runners. The squat in general is the daddy of all lifts, because it hits so many muscle groups and improves general strength and flexibility. The goblet squat is better for runners than the traditional barbell squat because the emphasis is more on the core than the back. The core has to do much more of the stabilising work, so the strength ...
Single Leg Deadlift To High Knee for runners
Переглядів 1882 роки тому
Things to consider: - Opposite arm, opposite leg in motion - try to keep back relatively straight, don't round the shoulders or crane neck - slow, controlled movements throughout - fully extend to finish movement: straight arm, straight leg, steel rod through body This exercise is brilliant for balance, coordination, stability as well as relevant strength. We are really trying to improve our st...
Winter Paddy Buckley FKT
Переглядів 3932 роки тому
The Paddy Buckley round is a route over the hills of Snowdonia, N.Wales. Taking in 47 summits, 100km and 28000ft of elevation. The Winter round must be completed during the months of December, January or February. I set out for my attempt on December 20th, 2 days shy of the shortest day of the year. Running solo and carrying all my own food, I broke Damian Hall's previous record with a new Fast...
Paddy Buckley Round. Solo Record. Ultra run in Snowdonia.
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
The Paddy Buckley Round is a 100km circuit around the hills of Snowdonia, incorporating 47 summits. It is the Welsh equivalent to English Bob Graham in the Lake District. There is a time target for people to complete these rounds in under 24 hours. I tried in June 2021 to complete the round but blew up at halfway and quit. I realised I just wasn't fit enough, so I went away for a month to train...
Paddy Buckley Round, Snowdonia. Week 3. Glyderau
Переглядів 1,3 тис.3 роки тому
Last week I ran a Paddy Buckley leg on Saturday and another one on Sunday. In week 3 I will be running 2 legs on one day. Gradually building strength in the legs and persistence in the mind. Starting in the glorious Ogwen Valley then straight up Tryfan. One of the steepest mountains in Snowdonia and definitely the most dangerous on the round. The otherworldly Glyderau plateau is rocky but runna...
Paddy Buckley Round, Snowdonia. Week 2, PART 2. Nantlle ridge
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
A long day in the Carneddau yesterday, and straight up into Nantlle ridge this morning, with very tired legs. Nantlle ridge is one of two areas on the round where you need to be very careful, Tryfan being the other. There are usually choices, which I try to illustrate, where you can go for safer slower options, or faster but more exposed routes. I am training for the Paddy Buckley Round in Snow...

Great footage and loved the music too!!
youve already inspired me to do this round. Now i WANT TO DO THEM ALL HAHA WELL DONE! Saw your attempt and was amazed.
Absolutely awe inspiring! Done the Welsh 3000’s a couple of times and you smashed my times 😂🤦🏼♂️. Some epic scenery to that route, but it looks absolutely brutal. Thinking of doing it over 3 days and that’s enough for me. Amazing though. Well done!
Making it look easy! Smooth
The beginning wait is sweet !
Thank you for sharing. I'll be running the round in July, albeit split into three parts over three days. Really nice to get an overview and know what's ahead. Once I've done the whole route in a relaxed 3 day fashion I hope to return to attempt a 24 hour.
Enjoyed these series of videos 👌 would love to get out on some of this route . Uts 50k in may so looking for adventures
Great video. Really enjoyed the route, stories and insights as well as advice
Just fast packed the course over the weekend with a friend. My hats off to you. WELL DONE :)
You’ve inspired me to get back out. How do you like living in snowdonia? I moved up a few years back and am finding the winters very bleak. Love the summer though. Bit love hate.

Thanks for this will give it a go
Hey Russell. Excellent little vid. Great routine and something I will certainly have a go at.
Nice going Russell
Well done Russell and to the crew.
Huge congratulations on your winter round. Utter legend!
Wow!!That was special!!Very Inspiring! Cant believe You Ran a whole thing In the VJ Irock! Tough like a nail!!Thanks for sharing!!
I supported a round on this leg earlier this summer but in reverse. It was absolutely stunning and such a contrast from other parts of snowdonia in that we didnt see a single person other than our group throughout the time on this section.
Ras y moelwyn such a great race!
Smashed it, very inspirational
This is NUTS!!! All I have to say is 😱😱😱🤯 incredible!!!! ❤️❤️
Cheers for making and sharing this with us!
great video, well done. The second hardest thing I have done was the welsh 3000 but Jura fell race is something else
amazing, well done!
Incredible achievement Russell, absolute legend of the mountains! Keep up the great work, looking forward to following your next adventure.
Congratulations buddy awesome work
Superb effort Russ! I keep looking at an ultra distance race, perhaps next year in one of the Lake District events as my first. Do you think it’s entirely possible to still run fast on the roads and tackle events like this, will you be back on the roads or is this a transition for you? Enjoyed watching the journey!!
Nice video thanks. Have you decided to go anticlockwise? Any particular reason just wondering?
Heya cheers for comment, yeah I go through it in week 1 vid. Basically a local race I do also runs anti clockwise
Sing like nobody's listening...
Cracking viewing once again Russell. Thanks for doing these. \m/
Really enjoying these. Not as much as blogging about a sub 2:20, which was Shakespearian, and I’ve read for years, and theres no way I’m doing anything like it, but, thanks for making them. Good luck.
I’m a road runner but love the mountains, I’m just rubbish at them. I’ve always had this idea that one day I’ll have a go of a round , this is really interesting mate, real enjoyable. Nice one
Great veiwing. What shoes are you using?
These are making my weeks so much better and truly inspiring me. Thanks again. S.
Thanks loads man!
Really cool!!... How do you do those Google earth fly throughs??
I use OS maps website there's a function called fly through on there 😁
@@russell_runner Thanks 👌🏼
Absolute heartbreak when your desperate for some fluids. Great video again. Love to get among the snowdonia mountains
Nice vid!
Looking mountain strong dude. One thing I noticed was how quiet it was up there. Looks so peaceful. Good stories too.
I know, it was a particularly quiet day then. Apart from me gassing away 😁
Brilliant video, Russ, nothing like our parc Menai loops lol...ouch on the fence....
That's it man, the speed on the roads definitely helps on the hills. I am very proud I didn't roll around in agony, I was well grounded too standing in water!
Really great video!
Cheers Sean!
Go Russell!
Thanks as always Stefan!
Awesome work Russ! Loving this. Walked this route the other week with a couple of collies - I was considering part of this as a run not sure I could manage the whole thing just yet.. Llewellyn is spectacular.
Yeah it's a magical place and much quieter than Snowdon!
Loving these Russ!
Ta loads!
Loving this Russell. Since I moved to Snowdonia this year, I've been discovering some of these gems - definitely not all at once though! Cracking work sir!
Great stuff! Hope you are enjoying living here!
Love this. Looking forward to the next. Can you possibly link the book you mentioned please?
Yes will see if I can update my description and put that in there. Thanks loads!

This is awesome my friend. My slow attempt will be at the beginning of July. Solo.
Excellent stuff Carmine. You won't be slow at all!
Very interesting, Looking forward to more.
Cheers loads Dan
Great tips man! Did I see somewhere you have a hips specific one?
Thank you. Great explanation.
