Well, to be fair, FZ was a drug addict. The drug was nicotine. Delivered via tobacco, it has killed a lot of people, and made many non users sick.

You know, when you listen to what this man has created, and how he performs, it’s easy to take him for granted until he is gone. Only then do realized what a treasure he was.

This is true. I was around early enough to see him play in 1976. I also came up during the "Apostrophe" "Overnight Sensation" era. I saw him stand up to Congress during the music labeling hearings and was completely heartbroken when he passed away. I am currently this very Summer taking on his catalog of albums and am only on number 38 of his studio albums not to mention his live albums and orchestral work and compilations and I am just scratching the surface. These people who are slamming Frank's solo's and guitar works are completely misinformed and it saddens me to hear some of these obnoxious comments. Frank wrote the book on riffs, solo's and exotic scales and was constantly jamming out his creative visions on the fretboard and scoresheet like none other before or since him. Frank's lyrics could be irreverent, vulgar and even disgusting to many and he left it all on the line for anyone to see as freedom of speech and self expression from the lifestyle that he led of constant touring to the L.A. freaks, groupies and backstage passers that he encounter. Frank was an equal opportunity destroyer and didn't care who you were if you couldn't take a joke or understand his unfathomable wit. Many nowadays can say after all of these years that this one is king guitar or that one is. But for many others it doesn't go any further than Frank Zappa.

Zappa and Hendrix collaborating🥰Thoughts are welcome✌️ But these aren't necessarily guitar solos. This is what I know of as instrumental music. When I was a kid growing up(yes I'm that old) a guitar solo was someone playing their guitar with no other instruments. Hence, guitar SOLO😋 Just saying 😉

I saw a mate of mine sat down on the sofa, looking gutted with a tear in his eye. Not the usual vibe from him at all. I said "what's up man?", he just stared at the floor and said "Frank Zappa is dead". I didn't know who Frank Zappa was........I do now, and I'm sad that he's gone. Much of his music is burned into my soul now. Thanks Frank......and in answer to your question: Yes, humour does belong in music !

My son wanted a guitar when he was 15, I bought him a nice Yamaha acoustic, he said he wanted an electric. I told him come show me you can play and next Xmas you can get what you want. He did exactly that and a year later I bought him a new Strat and Fender amp. Then I handed him a dozen of my favorite guitar albums to check out. Two weeks later he handed me back most of the CDs, he kept one, Frank Zappa 'Guitar'. I was so proud, I guess music appreciation is in the genes.

In his autobio he said he liked to wiggle his fingers and hear what came out. Don't we all? What came out of his amp was the most interesting to me of all of them. Steve Howe second.
