Thank you for the tip on sewing the skirt lining! Beautiful pelisse!
Great instructional video, just come across it, I've just bought a hand cranked 127 machine from 1934 in mint condition, it came with all the accessories so your video has been very helpful. I also have a larger 1898 machine, which too sews perfectly, no "play" in any of the moving parts. Both machines use the "boat style" bobbins. Always wanted a treadle machine, should have bought one 10 years ago. In the UK, these old machines have become very trendy of lats,, and sadly used as ornamentation rather than work horses. Prices have gone through the roof, and people on Ebay are asking silly prices, I was lucky to get mine from a charity (thrift) shop, love it, and it'll certainly get used.
You did a lovely job of the Pelisse. Personally, I would have put some of the striped contrast gold at the bottom of the cuff and along the front edges, so you could see the richer, warmer coloured fabric rather than the white fabric, as you did for the outside of the collar.
@beinspired1487 Thank you, and I kept the gold border so I can use it to maybe trim the coat with at another point in time, was in a bit of a rush to get it finished :)
It looks lovely
Love the outfit
Thanks so much for this video 🤩🤩 I found, by chance, a 1922 Class 15 Singer and...fell in love 😄😄 Then my husband found a 1927 Singer...and gifted it to me as my birthday present 🥰🥰 I think I am now addicted to antique sewing machines 😂😂Both Singer went with "contraptions" I didn't understand. Thanks to you, I now know what they are; thank you so much. My usual modern sewing machine is a Singer Heavy Duty 6805C.
@catherinedocquiert102 what a great present! Isn't it fun to discover more and more about these machines?
Just exquisite 😱
Very nice pattern, and enjoyed how you constructed it! Will have to purchase a copy on Etsy, assuming it’s a size that will fit me without too much fussing with the pattern (the drawstring makes it adjustable, but for this era, you want some fluff in the back :} About those two other ruffles to go beneath. At the bottom of the petticoat it was indeed normal to attach a narrow ruffle to the base skirt, to become a ruffled hem. This could have decorative lace on it. Then behind it would be attached another ruffle, known as a dust ruffle. This one could be plain. Its functions? Yes, to fluff out the hem ruffle, buy also to protect that from your shoes and other objects from whatever came up off of floor or street. It could be replaced as needed, as they tended to become worn. If you wanted the petticoat to be fluffier, besides starch, you could also lightly cord and/or tuck the ruffles. Tucks were very common, and all over the place in the years that followed (I have quite a few originals). Tucks are lovely when lightly starched as the ruffles become quite fluffy. Have saved your channel, and hoping that you start posting again at some point! Also, love your treadle sewing machine. I love them too and use one plus a handcrank. The narrow hemmers I’ve found superior to modern machines, at least mine :}
Thank you for your comment! I am working on new content again, so am hoping to post sone things again soon ;) It always makes my day knowing someone enjoyed my video's, makes it all worth it!
Your episode reminds me of my days in the 1970's because we used to starch our nursing caps in the days when we as nurses used to wear caps while working in hospitals. I remember starching my cap and sticking it to my refrigerator door and then peeling it off when dry.
I have 2 221's , a 99k and just got a 127 from 1913. The 127 has a bobbin shuttle which makes me wonder the date on your machine because if yours is 1910 , you appear to have a more advanced bobbin. When you check your serial number, take note if you have 6 or 7 numbers. If you have 7 numbers, it is probably a later vintage than 1910. Cheers and thanks. I subscribed.
Thank you, I'll look into it!
I have simanco USA sewing machine #16297 ,how old now my my sewing machine,,
I'm sorry, I know a lot about Singers, but not about other brands unfortunately
lovely caplet !
I'm learning to use a Singer 27k+treadle (120 yo) and 2x15k, one is in a case and is electric, the other one has a treadle. The one I use the most is the 15k + treadle. I have bought several amazing feet, but some of them are "dead" as you said ;-)
Bought the book and love it. Wish I had bought it several years ago !!😂
Abby Cox (you tube) has 8 ruffler feet 🐾 Try talking to her
Loved that old good looking sewing machine,I actually just bought one , it’s a 1925 white not a singer but I was told it’s just like singer so soon I’ll will practice on mind. Thank you for your video I enjoyed ❤❤❤❤❤
I bought my neighbors Singer I still have it. It does work, but it just needs a tune-up. ❤❤❤❤
That is great, make sure to oil it well if your neighbor didn't use it much to avoid it seizing up and happy sewing!
@gabriellehelenacouture6935 Thank you, I will. It had been her grandmother's machine. She ( Patty, my neighbor) has also passed a few years back, so it is a special machine to me. ❤️
How is the elbow fitted and sewn?
Oops you answered my question! I should have finished the video before I asked.
A strong hug from Brazil, dear lady! A have this Singer! 🌹🌹🌹👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇧🇷🙏🏻😇
I have two machines, one is a Pfaff 130 that belonged to my mum and I have another one, one that I bought. It says 'World's best deluxe sewing machine' made in People's Republic of China. Someone saw it and thought it was an antique, but, PRC wasn't even a thing till 1949.
I love the sleeves but you lost me. Have never attempted this before but I could not see the shape you were cutting out because it was white maybe and not sure on where you were stitching either. Do you have an other video’s where you take the time to show step by step stages with views of the whole sleeve and where you are sewing. Where were the basting stitches, what was the purpose of them in relation to the pattern. The end result was lovely though. I have Victorian dolls I want to make outfits for.
I use a teflon zig zag foot on all my machines. I like the zig zag foot because I can see the stitches she creates as she's creating them.
I was wondering if my machine could use a zigzag attachment. It's a 66 treadle from 1925 with no back stitch. Are you using that attachment with an antique machine? Is the attachment antique also? Sorry for so many questions, that is the attachment I was hoping she would have demonstrated. It's my 2nd most used stitch and I really don't care to struggle with creating them the old way.
@MispelledOnPurpose Hey unfortunately you can't make a zigzag stitch with a threadle as the needle itself would have to move for that. Because of this I use handstitches to do that or I finish a seam with biastape :)
@@gabriellehelenacouture6935 Too bad, it would have been a nice feature. Thanks
You have a wonderful Singer model 115. The main reason she is wonderful is because she has a full rotary bobbin hook. Very nice!
love the video, the blouse looks so good!, love itttt <3
Thanks very much indeed. A very helpful video for my new hobby. Colin , UK.
Hola soy de argentina y he heredado una igual!! Quiero aprender a usarla, veo en la mía que al devanador de hilo le falta una goma, no sé cómo se devana o carga la bobina de hilo!! Me ayudas??? Gracias 😊
Gorgeous!
So beautiful 😻
I love this so much, I'm making my own dress for junior prom, and I want it to be less revealing than modern dresses and to have that old and grand look, so this is perfect!
I absolutely love the deep burgundy colour of that original bodice 😻 One of my favourite colours.
Pro tip: when measuring for skirt length, put the“0 inch” end of your tape measure at where you want the bottom of the skirt to be, and read upwards to the waist. Much easier and more accurate! My favoured move is not to lace down, but to pad up! So much more comfortable 😂
Caplet looks lovely. I remember after I had a baby, like you I discovered some corsets no longer fitted properly. The body certainly changes.
Thankyou for sharing this tutorial, lots of love to you!!!
Hi Gabrielle, loves the video, tahbks so much for sharing. The shirt turned out amazing! Well done. I'm looking for resources for beginners (from reading patterns, prototyping, up to making a garment. I want to learn it all. I'll take note of the book, seems to be key! BTW love the big puffy sleeves. I've seen somewhere there exist some armatures that would help to keep them up and puffy all the time.
I found the manual for mine on line. You may be able to find the attachment manual to help with your ruffles 😊
Love your machine. It’s just beautiful. I sew with a singer portable (1954) and love it. A suggestion for you … it looks like you have masking tape as a guide. Get that off! It will damage the paint long term. Use painters tape instead or find a magnetic guide. I know this “cocktail fact” because I used masking tape as a guide and regretted it.
Painters tape? Thank you. For what it's worth, I have the exact same machine as she, right down to the Tiffany decals.
2 years late, but oh that shirt came out so nice!!! I saw you mention elsewhere in the comments that you might consider digitizing the pattern to sell. Did you ever end up doing that? I'm working on a cosplay with this style of sleeve and I'm having the hardest time finding any sort of premade shirt or even proper patterns to make it myself, and I'd love to purchase it, if you did release it!
I haven't yet, but I did release some other patterns in my Etsy shop The silvered past. I'll put it on my to do list ;)
I want to buy the singer machine, am in Nigeria in bayelsa state , how do I get it
The want that hold for placing the thread i can't used this machine

Bonjour, malheureusement ce modèle n'est pas disponible pour le moment, je suis désolé. Aranea Black a fermé son site web et je n'ai pas encore trouvé de bon remplaçant

I think you have the spool pin in an oil hole. It should be on the top of the hump by the hand wheel. I love your machine, I have several but no singers older then 1923.
This is how I bought it, but will look into it:) thank you for mentioning it
100%, can confirm. Spool pin is in the wrong place. Amazing that it works, regardless. 🙂
Found you from suggested videos, I do historically sewing and have a few singer machines: a late 1950s same model my husband’s mom use to use as well as an antique from the year my grandma was born, a shuttle bobbin hand crank I’ve used to make one garment so far. I should use it more. I also rescued a I think it’s 1940s in table sewing machine I think was made right after WWII that looks to be in great shape but the electrical cord dry rotted so have to replace that. Did not intend to get this one but the table is the perfect size for holding my hand crank machine vintage radio and plants when shut so I brought it home.
Oh I love this, such a great collection :)
@@gabriellehelenacouture6935 Didn't intend to have a collection, the person who fixed my vintage 1950s machine offered to sell me the antique when I mentioned I liked the shuttle bobbin machines. and it started snowballing from there, trying to stay away from places that might sell old sewing machines so I don't end up with more.
Your caplet is adorable, I love it!❤
Thank you :)
