What's so Queer about Gone with The Wind?
Look. You have to go to a small party, preferrsbly hair of the dog, and watch the movie with a bunch of cynical wise middle aged gay guys and a drag queen and just sosk it all up over a period of years...
Queer means odd or strange. All about Eve may possibly have gay subtext, like Addison De Wit etc. But "queer" is a modern 21st century concept
The concept of "queer-ness" in gay theory goes back at least as far as the early 70's. Queer as a slur, of course, goes back much, much earlier.
@@rossharold8414 look into the origins of queer theory. It's a bit sinister.
I LOVE Patricia highsmith. I love Hitchcock. Glad I’ve run across this podcast
Great film. One of my favorites.
In Judy's biography it states that they sent Judy and Robert Walker and a film crew to New York to do filming.
Vickie doesn't breakdown in the dressing room scene, SHE RELEASES!
When you see the reconstructed version, it makes the scale of all the other scenes in the second half of the film make sense. It lost so much scope when it was edited. The rhythm and pace of the movie was destroyed. Had it survived, the original director's cut was a masterpiece for the ages,
The make up room scene, you see her disappointment in her face when those men critique her looks. And it's Spanish guitar interlude backstage at the end. It just rinses all the Hollywood musical out of the film - and then it goes full Hollywood tilt boogie at the end, "Hello everybody, this is Mrs. Norman Maine."
Great discussion, Thank you. May I suggest a little editing in the future.
Hey there! Thank you so much! I actually edit all my episodes, but thank you, I will take note for my future episodes! So glad you enjoyed :)
