how do you know when to use -b/a or -b/2a ... what in the indicator in the word problem
-b/2a to find the x coordinate of the vertex and -b/a to find the sum of the solutions.

How does 14+3x =50
First you have to use the formula sum/count = mean. If we know the count and the mean then the sum will equal the mean times the count. Then I multiplied by 5 on both sides.

i dont know if youll see this but i never know how to set up the problem initially. I know the mean formula but i just cant figure out how to figure out where to put the numbers and x or to add other variables
The formula is sum/count = mean. What is the unknown value? An additional test score or one of the existing?
@@jdigitalTutoring I guess my problem is just figuring out from the word problem and setting that up so i can solve it (because once you set them up i could quickly solve them every time) for example on problem 2 theres no way i would have done divided x + 1 or even know to put the x after 30...its probably something ill have to learn from practice?

So u just leave it like rhat, you dont do anything with the 40?
The next step would be to write 40 under it and when you subtract you get zero.
