i got this error "calibrating Vector MOD => Error: reference voltage oot 6.9...12.0V => calibration failed". any advise? :D
You can use old crt for other projects or like a monitor??
I have never tried to use it somewhere else.
@@polymath.electronics probably it's a vga monitor, I want to try it, but I have no one🥲
Which model of long nose cutters are you using? They look very useful.
In this video I used Keiba HA-D04.
I have a 784D and the display has failed. Haven’t tried troubleshooting it yet, but if a replacement is needed this video will be a very helpful guide. Thanks for the clear run through of the process - excellent job on the video!
Dobra praca :)
Sodering a part that has to be replaced periodically is a major negative for people who want to do this yourself.
These batteries have to be replaced once in every 10 years, so I don't see any problems in soldering them.
Hi. Good video. I have recently bought a SMIQ03B. It works okay and has no errors, but the output is 40 dB lower than indicated. Any ideas? A stuck mechanical attenuator? Changing to electronic or fixed attenuation doesn't help, even though that is supposed to bypass the mechanical attenuators.
40dB is 10000 times less than expected. So it doesn't work okay. ;) Where did you measure the amplitude? Seems like cable/connector failure.
Nice work OM. These old units are very well built. Should be good for another 30 years now. 73
Thank you, William! These units are really undestroyable. ;)
Tell people how much that lcd cost.
$350 as of November 2021 if the web site is still active.
Hello ! And what about error 211 "summing loop unlocked"?
You are my saint.....!!!!
Quite a project. Well done say.. Impressive machine too. I see that the old CRT uses magnetic deflection. I thought that only electrostatic deflection is fast enough for a scope. But, maybe a stupid question 🙂 what would be the reason of replacing the CRT? What do you gain performance wise?
I've got this oscilloscope with a broken CRT, so I had to replace it with something. As it was really complicated to get an orginal CRT, I decided to retrofit it with LCD. What do I gain more? There some aspects like: weight, power consumpsion, no X-Ray. Does it matter? I don't know. Perhaps it's critical for somebody... ;)
@polymath.electronics okay, if it was broken, more then legit 😁 My remark was more of a question. What would be the resolution differences, or maybe some differences in refresh rate and that kind of stuff.
On analogue scopes, you're seeing the actual wave as it scans across the screen. On a digital scope, you're seeing a rasterised frame by frame image of the wave after it's been sampled and processed, so the deflection only needs to be as fast as any TV CRT.
Great work, perhaps an electric screwdriver should be on your purchase list soon? Kidding :)
Thank you! It's not far from the reality of HF-geek: I'm thinking about buying an electric screwdriver... ;)
Hey Polymath! Could you perhaps tell me the part number of the HFET you replaced in the unit? I have an SMIQ 04B with the same error (110) and would like to perform this repair myself :D
The MOSFET is SHF0189. It's available on aliexpress: alii.pub/6on765
That mosfet as well as the HP amplifiers fail on these quite a bit, as all 6 units had pretty much same issues. Only one which was from factory bodge job wire on back plane they ran wire between pins and cause the attenuator control to short causing the ALC 110 error on 75 MHz and below. I kind of figured on that one was a attenuator control issue as signal looked good and tapping on the unit output was magically, correct? Sure enough wire rub though on pin next to it causing issue, now fixed and thankfully no other issues but going to do the Ram battery next. That one was the first oddball that wasn’t a amplifier issue. Normally use to the rohde & schwarz generators liking to cook the output amplifier and operational amplifiers as they ran them high and tend to cook themselves to the point have the full reel of those components laying around as usually going to need them at some point. You are very correct a very common issue they ran those amplifiers much higher then they were designed for.
Thank you for shearing, very informative video, I'm about to do the same to my TDS754C
You are welcome!
Did you have the same success unlocking your 754C?
Thanks for bringing back that video
Nice Video- glad to see you back OM!
Thank you!
