Such a fun and interesting episode! Loved the stories of 'little' JM and behind the scene stories of the games!
Thanks for inviting JM to the podcast! Keep up the good work David and Branson :)
Great advice! Love the telling it like it is, Kim! Thank you :)
I wonder how he settled on the parameters. I feel like it’s so hard. You wish you had 5 actions instead of 4. You wish you could move 2 spaces not 1. You wish there were a few less cities. You wish your hand limit was 8 not 7. It’s so tightly balanced to yield a 10% win rate. Because of this I appreciate that there are difficulty levels bases on the number of outbreak cards.
We can't speak for Matt, but in our experience that kind of fine-tuned experience comes from tons and tons of playtesting. Designers usually have a gut feeling of how it should work, then challenge that gut feeling in testing to see how/if it needs to change to suit the play. They also often have a spreadsheet with all the math worked out (exchange rates between resources, the play value of actions, etc...) so that they can tweak values and see how it affects everything else.
It’s interesting to see how a great game comes out of a few starting ideas.
Great show!
So interesting! Loved it
Great Show! well done David and Bob!
Great episode - the podcast is a new find for me and glad to have found it
Super interesting and fun interview - thank you!
I enjoyed this interview. I must say that. It’s a shame that. Her first game mariposas which it was released before Wingspan. It such an underrated game, but even thought Elizabeth mentioned it a couple times. It was never acknowledged and kinda overlooked, I would have love to listen her timeline of how she did both of them and which one was prototype first, and it looks like Wingspan would have taken longer to getting done, but Mariposas was such an intriguing puzzle to put together and play. Keep up the good work guys. Thanks so much!
What a fantastic interview! Thank you David, Branson and Adam!
Amazing interaction between both brothers
You guys deserve so many more subscribers for this amazing podcast. Thanks for making it happen

Great video. I can't use spark as I'm not in USA, but this inspired me to make one of these 2min vids. From the interview, it sounds like what is needed is: Your name Game name playercountgame length co-op/competitive general overview goal demo of a turn what makes it unique/different? (optional) Share more about you (relevant experience). Did I miss anything?
Sounds like you got it!
