Thank you ladies for this talk. It is four years on, and the movement is still growing!
Thanks for watching!
@@SAQAArtquilt I do have a question though. Unfortunately I have not heard the lecture on 20 modern quilts that opened QuiltCon 2024. Lisa Call is very clear in stating she makes textile art, and does not refer to her work as modern. In this video the fact that modern quilts are functional, washable, etc. is stressed as to discern them from art quilts. I can think of many quilts displayed at QuiltCon 2023 and 2024 that can be called ART quilts, even be entered into Quilt National. Their function is to be appreciated on walls only! Is this an example of how the definition of modern quiltmaking is evolving? It seems the distinction between art and modern is blurred in certain instances? In South Africa modern quilting is gradually gaining wider recognition. Attending QuiltCon is on my bucket list😄
@@laetitiacilliers6227 that's a great question. I'd recommend reaching out to MQG for an answer! www.themodernquiltguild.com/contact/
I absolutely loved this Textile Talk and the 3 artists. Wonderful art and presentations. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! We had a great time with these artists.

@@SAQAArtquilt At the moment I'm bogged down in work in the garden. That's why I "have to" watch your posts one after the other on UA-cam. THANK YOU so much for this opportunity. Continued success! YOU ARE GREAT! ♥☀
Thank you Greg for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this talk; it entertained me mightily while on some medical bedrest. Thank you!
So glad that you enjoyed this Textile Talk!
Interesting and inspiring presentation, thanks Natalya and Martha!
Thanks for watching, Dinah! So glad you enjoyed this Textile Talk!
I've been a member since March 2007. They hadn't even started showing the videos yet. It's the one subscription I make sure to renew every year!
Oh my God Sally I want to meet you please
Fascinating.... I too make wonky French knots.... love the organic look in my work. thanks for this presentation.
Thank you so much, stunning artists, all. I love seeing the differentiation in skills/styles. Great works. 👏
So glad you enjoyed it!
really inspirational!
So glad you enjoyed this Textile Talk, Veronica! Thanks for watching!
I have 'attempted' a few quilts over a lot of years and always feel trapped in the need to make perfectly designed and sewn items. Thus, I have avoided making them. Get inspired and then am rarely happy with my work. Seeing your work excites me to try again. Love the imperfect appearance, though it's definitely very 'thought out' and planned, I love the sense of freedom exhibited. You have released my fear of imperfection. Thank you. Your work is powerful and pleasant to behold!
Wow loved this talk !!!!! Thank you for sharing ...I am so inspired
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful and powerful work!
The quilts remind be of puzzles.
What a beautiful and humble lady.
Such wonderful imagery and beautifully hand stitched pieces! This video really inspired me and sparked my own imagination for future quilts! I could just sit and look at them for hours.
Wow!!! So much complex work.... lovely, mostly surprisingly not typically minimalist Japanese. Quite fascinating is her rich fantasy life, she's like a little fairy person with her head full of fairy stories... such fun!
well she really makes me want to put my needle away
Amazing works of Art. Love the one that included Little Red Riding Hood holding the wolf, Harry Potter, Charley Chaplin, Sherlock, and Watson. Such detailed work, yet fun and humorous.
These quilts are amazingly beautiful and so appreciative to see the full view and the close-ups. Thank you for sharing.
Is SAQA not only quilts anymore?
Hi Loree--our definition of the "art quilt" encompasses a lot of different types of textile art! We define an art quilt as, "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
I can't wait! This is going to be fantastic. Thank you.
We're so excited :)
I would love to be a member…….i graduated from commercial fabric to making my own a while ago……love this!
Love, love, love all of the costumes. My Son has gone to Cosplay so I have seen many photos of the amazing costumes that are worn. He and his Wife love to dress up and attend these events.
Wonderful thank you for introducing such wonderful artists.
Great, wonderful art! Looking forward to the conference. ♥☀
Desedamas is fabulous! We are so excited for this year's conference.

Thank you and a wonderful talk and sharing of processes and ideas.
Thanks for watching!
Felicitaciones! Excelente obra textil!
It's wonderful to see the artists behind the beautiful textiles that appear in movies. What fantastic work in such a short time frame. I've seen Nneka's work on Instagram, I'll have to follow her. Excellent talk. Thank you.
My favorite show of all quilt shows. Thank you for all you do…so moving and beautiful❤
Great program today!
Thanks for watching, Diane! We had a great time with Mary Savig.
I loved this preview of the coming show in DC. I would love to see it! I especially like the idea of video capturing in the future the various artists and their drive to express emotions within their works and why they choose the fiber they used. I would also like to know what is considered fiber? Would it include fur, feathers, seaweed and other such items? Sheron Mehl
Sheron--good question. Different people and organizations would have different answers! SAQA leaves it very open-ended and accepts all types of materials as long as the work fits our definition of the art quilt: "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
So beautiful
