I KNOW THINGS NOW| JEFF HARNAR SINGS SONDHEIM
Just brilliant. I’ve played it about eleventy-eleven times so far and still laughing. Bravo!
Thank you! May the humor stay fresh til the twelthy-twelth! The writer Rick Crom is a genius!
@@songbookjeff He is . . . more from you both, please!
❤❤❤
Love this. Love you.
So good it's almost not funny!!! I went w/ it!!!!
Love that! 🎶♥️🎶
I wish the writer would rewrite the entire show.. brilliant.
🎶 I wish! 🎶
Brilliant!!
Thank you 🙏🏻🎶♥️🎶
Did you see LeeRoy Reems get his award? Where can I find him singing Penny in My Pocket?!? 🙏❤️🙏
Write to Richard Skipper to see if he will post the video from that night
@@songbookjeff do you have an address for Richard Skipper? Thanks.
You are simply THE BEST!
Thank you James 🙏🏻💜
He’s in Facebook - easy to find - or thru his website
Had to revisit this gorgeous rendition by these two masters!
James thank you so much. Alex’s arrangement from the 1980’s still dazzles me too 🙏🏻💜🙏🏻
Amazing talent with performances on Dec 13 (Waterford CT) & 16 (Norwalk CT)
Thanks Neil 🎶♥️🎶
❤❤❤
I had to come back to this. I really feel that together with Jeff’s beautiful and unique interpretation of this great standard and Alex’s stunningly ephemeral arrangement, secrets of this classic are being revealed for the first time.
James thank you so much! This was the first arrangement Alex shared with me back in the ‘80’s. Brilliant indeed!
This is a new Porter song to me! What a song! What a rendition! I especially love Porter songs when they are dated by anachronistic references and this one is overflowing. Couldn’t be more fun.
Thank you James! I agree - what a wonderful time capsule in one wonderful tune. A brilliant lyric. 🎶💜🎶
A Mel Torme recording from years ago on which he performed Cole Porter’s YOU’RE THE TOP. He changed the lyric “your Garbo’s salary” to “your Redford’s salary.” It just seemed so very wrong.@@songbookjeff
Oh those crazy bongos! Too much!
One gets the idea that with all the talent on that stage, there’s a whole lot of tenacity too!
Thank you James 🙏🏻💜🙏🏻
So very beautifully sung! I had the great good fortune to see this wonderful troubadour perform in St. Louis this past week end. What a show! Accompanied by one of the best in the business, the pianist and music director Alex Rybeck, the two of them let out all the stops and put on an unforgettable show!
James is was GREAT to meet you & thank you for these very kind words. 🙏🏻
Wait a minute! What exactly does fortieth anniversary refer to? Performing together for forty years? Or meeting each other in kindergarten forty years ago? I think the latter is much more likely.
Our first show June 13, 1983 …. sadly loooong past kindergarten:-)
@@songbookjeff actually, not sad at all! Actually pretty effing marvelous!
Beautiful and haunting. Splendid rendition! And hey, you can’t go wrong being accompanied by the great Alex Rybeck!
James thank you & yes! I ♥️ Alex Rybeck
Simply Gorgeous ❤
Thank you for being there & here Marieann 🙏🏻💜😘
What an AMAZING medley and performance! Sublime.
That’s so lovely - thank you 🙏🏻
Clever use of patterns of lyrics and tunes from his different musicals.
Rick Crom wove all those references into this so cleverly
Love the touch of Durante touch in this beautiful rendition!
Thanks James!
@@songbookjeff Always Jeff. Keep up the fabulous work! Always a treat to see what you’re going to pull out of your hat. Couldn’t edit. Meant to say ‘touch of Durante in this beautiful rendition.’ No second ‘touch.’ By the way if you can ever get hold of a Durante recording, give a listen. He really had a wonderful way with a song! As do you!
Spectacular 😊
💜💜💜🎶💜💜💜
Great as always
Fabulous ❤❤
I very much dislike the “oh so serious” rendition. Not in the spirit of what Cole Porter intended at all.
Have you heard the original Virginia Bruce rendition in 1936 “Born to Dance?” It was born a ballad and its seriousness is all there in Mr. Porter’s brilliant lyric.
@@songbookjeff Mr. Harnar, I just now got your generous reply. And as usual, I am always happy and willing to be schooled by a very fine and accomplished artist like yourself. But showing how a closed mind can be changed. I listened to your rendition again and was sold. Thanks Teach!
@@oscar646 it was a revelation to me to go back to the lyric. I had grown up hearing the song swung. Thanks for your generous response 🙏🏻
@@songbookjeff 🍎
Very excited to hear you’re at the Blue Strawberry next month here in St. Louis! Can I ask who will be your accompianist?
Exquisite.
In addition to myriad talents, this sensational singer has a mind like a steel trap.
❤FABULOUS!!❤
I love this!
Thank you Therese! You were there that night! 🙏🏻🎶💜🎶
@@songbookjeff I thought so!
A lovely, warm performer singing a very difficult song--I remember tackling this in a Cole Porter review in the 1980s, and finding not many spots to breathe, and awkward tricky intervals to sing! We only managed three of those refrains (it was a duet) so I was fascinated to hear the one that included the "wedding cake". An engaging and perfectly sung performance. Rex in the City
Rex - you’re the top! Thank you - Jeff
I was in the orchestra pit, too, playing violin. Still remember how all the girls swooned every time Jeff lifted an eyebrow -- and how our jaws dropped when Liz soared up that high B flat.
how wonderful to read this. I can’t believe how magnificent the orchestra sound on this extremely challenging score. boggles the mind & dazzles the ears all these years later 🙏🏻🎶💜🎶🙏🏻
@@songbookjeff Man, we did sound amazing, especially for a public high school orchestra WITH NO RINGERS! much of that credit goes to Stan Ackerman. You know the score is based on music of Borodin (the 2nd symphony and the Polovtsian dances), right? He programmed that repertoire for the orchestra THE YEAR BEFORE, so that most of us were already familiar with it before we ever got to the first Kismet rehearsal. I'm so thrilled you posted this. Brings back memories! Do you have video of other NTE productions? I remember one of the big news stations (CBS, maybe?) did a special on declining enrollment in schools and how it affected special programs like arts, and they came and filmed the dress rehearsal for the spring 1979 big concert. I know you'd already graduated by then, but I'd love to find that footage somewhere.
Stan Ackerman was brilliant to plan it that way. I have some Super 8 sound footage of Oklahoma (1976). Did you play that show? If you DM me I can send you a Dropbox link
@@songbookjeff I did not play it, as I was only a freshman, but I went to every performance!
@@songbookjeff UA-cam is weird. The message icon is not appearing on your page. I messaged you on the dreaded Facebook instead

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jeff, when will you be sailing on Seabourn and/or performing in the SF Bay Area? Would love to catch up with you.
Thanks Roxanne … I’m working on it 👍🏻🙏🏻💜
Did you get ahold of the entertainment management at Seabourn? I truly believe it is the best in the cruise industry (so much so that we purchased stock in it's parent company, and then purchased more stock as we believe that there is a pent-up desire to cruise after this pandemic).
Beautiful!!! Bravo!!! Bravo!!! (I was singing along with Jeff’s beautiful harmonies)🎶💕💋
