Game is completely hopeless, "tutorial" deposits you in a station with no guidance and everything is locked out until you do the "specific thing" it wants you to do. What is that thing? We will never know, and the game isn't telling! Gave up after an hour of wandering around hopelessly with no guidance. Total dogshit.
As a seasoned player, I enjoy these guides. Wish i had them the first time i got into the game! 😂
A kill warrant scanner might be worthwhile to grab, especially while waiting for the authorities to whittle them down to increase your payout.
I give up... How do you activate your d-scanner?!😅
First, you need to be in Analysis Mode. Press your cockpit mode switch hotkey until you switch from the orange combat mode to the blue analysis mode. Then, make sure you have the D-scanner set to a fire group. Do this in the right hand panel. Lastly, switch to the fire group you set your d-scanner to, and hold the fire button until the bar fills up, and you'll have scanned the system.
@darkseraph2009 thank you. I'll give that a go later today!
Loving this series. Looking forward to the next one!
Great series. Thank you very much. May I make a small suggestion? Your volume levels need to be balanced a bit more. The intro music is way TOO LOUD while your narration and music throughout the rest of the video are a bit TOO LOW in comparison to the intro. I had to crank up my volume to max to hear you clearly and then on the next video I watched in the series the intro music nearly deafened me. 😄 Please take this feedback as it's intended... just a friendly suggestion. Again great work and I'm sure it will help out a lot of new players. Keep it up.
Love it :)
Thanks for the comment 😀, glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for making these videos! When choosing game mode, can you change it, say, from online to solo in a future session? I have terrible internet so I want to be able to convert to solo without losing all my progress, if needed.
No worries, and yes you can absolutely switch between game modes, just go back to the main menu and select a different mode, the game carries on from the same location.
@SpacefaringChronicles that's good to know. Thanks. Unfortunately I can't even connect to the servers now due to my epic rural internet 😅
Just wanted to say these guides are excellent, really enjoying the series despite being an old-hand at this game.
Thanks for the feedback, it's always encouraging to hear back from players, especially long standing ones 🙌🏼
What I really want to know is why I'm getting humbled everytime I try a combat mission, do the enemy ships get harder when I upgrade mine? it seems as no matter what equipment I have enemy ships will always feel bullet spongy (1 time I spent my entire missile arsenal and it didn't even get to 50% health, it also warped away so I spent 20 min fighting ONE ship)
Hi and thanks for the comment. To answer more fully I'd need more context, i.e. when you say combat missions do you mean specific missions like pirate hunting from the mission board? To answer some specifics, enemy ships don't get harder because you've upgraded your ship, there's no correlation there (as far as I know). If you're selecting combat missions from the mission board they should give you a threat level in the mission description the higher the level the harder your opponent(s) will be. It also depends on what ship your flying. I'd advise starting those types of missions with at least a medium size ship (so definitely not the sidewinder) and have upgraded most of the modules to A level. Some of those missions are also designed to do as a wing (so with a team of players). When you lock onto an opponent, you'll get information about the pilot and the ship in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, i.e. where it tells you if they are wanted etc. It will also give you the pilots skill level (Novice, Master, Expert, etc). If you're relatively new to the game and still flying a sidewinder you probably might want to consider not taking on an expert or above for the time being. Also the higher level NPC pilots will also most likely have elements of their ships as engineered making them even more difficult. Hope this helps, let me know if I can elaborate further!
@@SpacefaringChronicles I picked up the "destroy 10 ships of ____ faction" (threat level 0), and as the description of the mission said that I could find them in conflict zones, I thought it was gonna be simple as I already had 2 kills with the Sidewinder, but my damage output was very low and was taking way to long to kill, so I bought the Viper Mk III and upgraded with leve C modules (a considerable upgrade from the Sidewinder), but after that, I didn't even managed to get a single ship to 50%. But as I never really looked into the NPC levels, I can't tell if I only managed to find high level NPCs and not a single low level, I Don't know if that was the problem.
Yep a Viper Mk III definitely a good choice for a combat ship. What was your hardpoint (weapons) configuration? Ideally you need a mixture of thermal weapons to deal with the shields and kinetic to deal with the hull. Conflict zones can be a good hunting ground for those mission. Or you can usually find faction ships at Nav Beacons in the assigned systems. And yes its worth checking out the NPC levels to start with.
3000 hr CMDR Here, i approve this excellent new tutorial series 👍
Thanks for the feedback, very encouraging, especially from an experienced player. Hoping it gets new players into the game 😊
you're doing great job THX :) comment for ranges. :)
Thank you too!
Man that's literally the kind of Guide I was looking for, everyone is just, "Oh I'll teach you how to get from the First to the last ship" and then it's like 1hr of farming strategies. Not you, you're actually teaching us how the game itself works. Tks man I'll keep watching
Same. Kinda disappointing how many people jut want to speed through the game in an hour instead of actually plying the game.
Thanks for the feedback, when I started this I wasn’t 100% sure people were after this, it’s encouraging to get the feedback!
Great series this is just what I need as I'm new to ED 👍 liked and subbed
Thanks for the feedback and for liking and subscribing, it’s definitely encouraging!
Not sure if you know if you go to space stations from one place to another they will drop a level 3 suit and weapons but you may have to be patient ,you can get it within 5 minutes or it may take a 1 hour or less as someone may have picked it up by chance so it moves to another station or stations to be picked up.
Thanks for posting! Yes I’ve managed to grab a couple of grade 2 & 3 suits and weapons in the past. I’m going to cover engineering and upgrading in more detail later on. As it’s hard to judge when upgrades like this appear I didn’t want people just starting out to go on a hunt specifically for them. But worth calling out in the comment. Thank-you!
The "A new opportunity" doesent show up for me, so I am wondering if this was a limited time thing or if I just jumped into missions before I could recieve it?
Having my reset my commander a couple of times to do the first starting out video I found I had to quit out of the game and then load it up again before the “A new opportunity” message came through.
@@SpacefaringChronicles TYSM!
I guess that worked? 😊
@@SpacefaringChroniclesI logged out then back in and launched from the port chamberlains rest and immediately after I left the no weapons zone it popped up
I had the same issue. What i did was enter one of the terminals in the lobby area, and play around in it for about 5 min. Then it just popped up for some reason. I then boarded my ship and saw it displayed in the upper right. For super beginners like me, LOL, hit your middle mouse button then mouse up towards that area to access that part of the screen. I couldnt for the live of me figure that out for a bit. Once your in there hit Q, and E to move to the left and right instead of your arrow keys. I did all the practice missions and tut's, but there was just so much to absorb i forgot about that part.
This is a great introduction. Just downloaded Elite from Steam and just finished a first training that started me on a planet and then dropped me off at chamberlains rest too. Looking to the series. One question. How can I access the ships I picked up from twitch drops?
Thanks for the feedback, I think to access your twitch content drop you have to ensure you’ve linked your twitch and steam account, then you should be able to add the twitch drops to your steam inventory. I didn’t buy the game through steam, I bought direct from Frontier (and a second account via Epic). I had to link my frontier and twitch accounts together.
cool
Cheers! 👍🏼😊
One thing about fuel scooping, you don't actually have to be moving to fuel scoop. You can sit in range of the star while the fuel scoop does its thing and then you can fly away. Not sure if efficiency is effected but at the least you can go grab a snack or drink while you fuel up (just make sure your ships heat isn't going up too fast or is stable).
I’ve been playing ED (on and off) since its launch and never realised this, I’m going to try it out later. I suspect you’re right and the collect rate is probably reduced but yeah if you can grab a drink or snack whilst you’re waiting that would be good. Thanks!
The collect rate changes based on the distance from the star, but stationary will not affect the distance. Good call out.
Subscribed! I started playing a month or so ago and I definitely feel like all the guides out there are from years ago. Some have been helpful, some not as much. Glad to see a fresh guide out.
Awesome, thank you! It’s great to get feedback.
All good here. There are a few different levels of RES zones. I would encourage new commanders to look for 'LOW' zones as to not bite off more than your skills and your equipment can handle.
Great guide. Is there any easy way to visually identify if an NPC (or player for that matter) is too much for you to take on? Or is it really a case of taking a note of the threat level from the mission itself?
Thanks for the comment. When you lock onto a ship, you automatically scan it and the details of the ship and the pilot appear in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, one of the bits of information it gives you is the pilots skill level, and that will give you an indication of how hard an opponent they are. Locking onto a ship won't necessarily mean they see you as a threat straight away, however as soon as you start firing they'll see you as an adversary. You can distinguish between a human player and a NPC in the main radar hud, human players alway appear as a hollow square whereas NPC's are always a solid square.
A higher opponent combat rank means they'll be more skilled. But also consider the ship they're flying. A dangerous Imperial Eagle might be easier to take out than a competent Anaconda, provided you have the firepower to take it down quickly.
Great new player guide
Thanks for the comment, it's always encouraging to get feedback
Subbed! Great video. I'm a new player coming from SC. I bought a Type-8 to give me something nicer to start with. Guessing a FSD and scoop upgrade are early on my shopping list!
Thanks for the sub! Yeah out of all possible upgrades, of which there are many, those 2 upgrades expand out your opportunities definitely. Welcome to ED. I'm considering giving SC a go during December (time permitting)
Nice to see some new elite content being made!
Thanks for the comment, it's a work in progress but fun to do :-)
Ooooh it's getting tense, If it was me I think I would keep moving around don't settle in one place and become easy to track down.
yes indeed. it's going to be interesting to progress this one :-)
I did one of these a few weeks ago, and I have a fully modified and upgraded Python mk2, could you tell me why I had 6 Elite NPC's coming at me and was unable to do the missing because there was not enough time before these jerks were on me? I gave up after the 4th try. They melted me every time 5 % hull left. Threat said 0. Thank you.
Hi there, thanks for the comment, whilst I can't be sure why this happened, the following might help. In Elite Dangerous, the "Threat Level" associated with missions, including ship log uplink missions, doesn't always predict the actual difficulty or the type of encounters you may face. While a threat level of 0 typically suggests minimal opposition, various factors could have contributed to your facing a challenging situation with multiple Elite NPCs. Here are a few potential reasons for your experience: Background Simulation or Nearby Conflict Zones: Sometimes the in-game background simulation (BGS) creates unpredictable encounters. If the megaship was near a faction involved in a war or hostile to your allegiance, it could have triggered high-level NPC spawns. System Security Level: If you're in an Anarchy or low-security system, you're more likely to encounter pirates or hostile NPCs, even during low-threat missions. Elite NPCs, especially in these zones, can be relentless. Faction Affiliation: If the mission was tied to a faction you're hostile with, they might have sent more dangerous NPCs to intercept you. Additionally, the presence of Elite NPCs could indicate that you're on an opposing faction's radar.
The Feds, Booooo.
LOL, I was drinking my coffee when I saw your comment and it made me spit it out everywhere 😂
@@SpacefaringChronicles Lol, sorry about the coffee mess.
Have subscribed, great editing and I am intrested in following your adventure.
Awesome, thank you!
This preview. Shows why the best IDEA . Game is soo crap. What’s the best bit of ELITE. . Trading for cash building up Funds visiting various agricultural planets( with side ground missions ). And carrying goods to make credits. The more expensive Cargo the better the pirates to fight. Then you take over sectors. Etc et. How fcking simple. But 45 years later they can’t do this. Simple thing. .
Thanks for your comment! I can see you're frustrated, but the things you mention-trading, building funds, transporting cargo, fighting pirates-are actually still core parts of Elite Dangerous. Trading for credits, taking on missions, and even encountering pirates are all fundamental gameplay mechanics. You can definitely visit different types of planets, and ground missions have been expanded with the Odyssey update. The game has grown a lot over the years to include even more features like exploration, mining, and community-driven events. It can feel overwhelming at times, but all the elements you're talking about are still very much there, just alongside a broader range of activities. I hope you find the parts of Elite that you enjoy and that future updates add even more to the experience. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
As someone who played the original Elite and Frontier Elite II, I can relate to the nostalgia towards simpler times - you had your 1 multipurpose ship, or several, then you started the basically predefined upgrade path, grinded it out then snowballed. EDO is fundamentally diffetent with specialised ships and largely separate careers and activities, because it is a live service game. You win some you lose some.
Nice to see an upto date tutorial, especially one aimed at new players. Pleanty of new players get overwhelmed as it can be a steep learning curve. You've a lot of ground to cover, keep it relaxed and clear -- you'll do ok.
Thank you so much for the encouraging words! I'm really glad you found the tutorial helpful, especially since I know how overwhelming Elite Dangerous can be for new players. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind-keeping things relaxed and clear is exactly what I’m aiming for as I cover more of the game. There’s definitely a lot of ground to cover, but with support like yours, I’m excited to keep going! Thanks again for watching!
This was helpful, thanks.
Thanks for the comment, glad it helped!
Thanks, subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
These are the tutorials that newbies like me need. Thanks for making this series, its going to be a huge help.
Thanks for the feedback, it's encouraging to hear it's helping people out. I'm aiming get at least one or two videos out per week, ideally towards the end of the week so most likely between Thursday and Saturday
Excellent video. I keep coming back to Elite and wanting to make it a regular thing I enjoy. I bought an x56 HOTAS a year or so back and had been trying to learn it. Its difficult for a casual though figuring what controls do what (default mapping for x56). I also have a Meta Quest that I try to use for immersion. Any suggestions on how to get good without going broke? One wrong push of a button could destroy your ship or get you in trouble with bounties.
Thanks for the comment. I’m editing the next 2 videos in this series at the moment, aiming to get episode 3 out by this weekend hopefully. I’m tackling the different types of activities available in each video, so the next one is about tackling a mega ship scanning mission (reasonably easy) and then episode 4 we tackle basic bounty hunting. I’m hoping to get that out in the next 10 days (hopefully). Then after that it’s an odyssey on foot mission.
Looking forward to this
Thanks, I'm going to aim to release new episodes every week on Thursday or Friday mornings, hopefully.
Thank you bro 🙏every other tutorial on youtube is either about how to cheese the game to get insanely rich or just hella outdated. Needed this
No problem, I’ve come back to the game multiple times and know exactly what you mean. I felt there was a massive gap between brand new / returning players and a lot of the “how to” videos. Appreciate the feedback… thankyou!
This is so funny, I also got a BBC computer when I was a kid and played Elite on it, returned for a year ago but have not really had the time to get into the game before now. Thank you! 😃
No problems, I've gone back to Elite Dangerous multiple times, I'd love to be able to play more but work and family life conspire against me :-)
Great video, I started my elite journey on the Amiga 500. Still flying. Elite making a true galaxy as far as humanly possible remains an amazing feat. Also, the sound design in Dangerous is just beyond belief! Hope to see you in the black.
The Amiga 500 was one machine I wished we'd owned I certainly feel like I missed out on some Computing history. Yes I agree with you on the Sound Design in Elite Dangerous, it's not credited enough.
Even today the game remains a technical wonder. You can't deny that a 1:1 ratio recreation of the Galaxy is an amazing feat. I read somewhere that since the Kickstarter, players have only explored about 0.003% of said Galaxy. That may not look like a huge number, but when you consider the size of the Galaxy, that's actually a whooping percentage of the Galaxy.
Each iteration of the games in the Elite series have really pushed the boundaries of the machines they were designed to run on, plus the scale of the galaxies you can explore. The current iteration in Elite Dangerous is just an absolute crazy scale and yes I also read a similar figure to what you quoted (0.03%).
Came here after your Reddit comment. My experience is quite similar to yours although I only briefly played it on the school Beeb. Kickstarter backed and I’m online most days switching between the two accounts I have 😂
I think every school in the UK had a least one Beeb in the 1980's :-) . In that respect the BBC Micro was a success as the idea was to drive computer literacy in the UK especially with children. I've somehow ended up with 2 accounts on Elite Dangerous, one as my main player and the second to do these videos. I've just reset that second one as I'm working on a series of videos about how to tackle starting the game. I suspect a lot of new players get to the end of the tutorials and just sit there in their cockpit and say "what do I do now?".
Advanced docking computer does not approve this message.
Advanced docking computer has to go onto benefits now 😀
What does one do after these are complete? I must admit I’m overwhelmed. Thanks.
That’s a great question, I intend to do a video on this fairly soon. I intend to cover off at least one more of the training missions and then tackle the starting the game. However my best advice right now is when starting the game is to set yourself an initial series of goals. Firstly your stock sidewinder ship needs upgrading (and eventually replacing) so you’re able to tackle harder challenges. All of this revolves around earning/generating credits. So I’d advise tackling some of the simpler courier missions available from the station mission boards to start with. This will get you used to the basics, navigating to different systems, launching and docking etc. I’ll try and get a guide up for this soon.
@@SpacefaringChronicles Please do. Appreciate the summary. I’m interested and overwhelmed currently. Thanks.
