Habibia Soofie Musjid and Aastana Pietermaritzburg Co-trustees. Assalaam-mu-Alaikum. I am addressing this communication to Irshad and Kamil as co-trustees of the Habibia Soofie Musjid and Aastana. I am representing Abdul Kader who is also a co-trustee at the PMB Aastana in the capacity of his older sister and as cousin to Irshad and aunt to Kamil. Abdul Kader is mentally, emotionally and physically incapable of speaking for himself. Both you Kamil and your mother have inquired once about Abdul Kader's well-being since I brought him to my home in Stanger on 01/05/2021,Shukran. Abdul Kader was starved, severely malnourished with associated altered behaviour caused by poor nutrition compounded by pre - existing depression. Hence his irritability and mood swings,his inability to control his anger, hopelessness and feeling trapped. I was remiss in not seeing the gravity of his situation and in being upset with him assuming that this was self pity on his part and refusing to take responsibility for himself. He is incapable of doing so in his present condition! I had a dream that he was dying hence my coming to Pmb to check on him. Allah SWT is Great and Hazrat Soofie Saheb and our spiritual forefathers protected him. The negative financial impact of the Covid 19 pandemic and the shutting down of his office by you all has added to his mental anguish because he is financially constrained and he is embarrassed to say so which has intensified his despair, hence his worsening isolation and aggressive behaviour. He cannot afford to buy his medication as his medical aid has lapsed, or food and being an Insulin Dependant Diabetic, both are essential for his survival. Jameel and I have been providing for him to a certain extent. I have sought advice and counsel into the legality of you all removing the contents of his office including personal documents and confidential client files and the shutting down of his office without his consent. This is unlawful. Kader admits he gave the key to his office under duress after he was badgered into doing so and he was in no mental or physical state to do otherwise. At no time did he consent to your actions. His first utterance on seeing me was "it's very hostile here". He feels alone and dispossessed and rightly so! I see that now. Mamoo's death devastated him and he never expressed his grief, instead internalising his pain with worsening depression and therefore coming across to the observer as aloof or difficult. I realise now that this was his way of coping. Since Mamoos demise I see that he has been systematically marginalized, excluded from decision making as a co-trustee towards the running of the Aastana, treated with extreme prejudice and dispossessed of all activities that have made the Aastana a home for him. Abuse presents itself in many guises. Abdul Kader is passive and avoids confrontation and there is more than enough of that in the raised voices of persons in the Aastana. It is the most cowardly way to engage a person who won't fight back or feels helpless when faced with such aggression! It is no wonder that he has such aversion and antipathy to you all! I have always kept my distance from the affairs and activities at the PMB Aastana as I thought I had no right to do so, but, on reflection I am the daughter of Goolam Mohammed Soofie and Nizam BiBi Soofie and sister to Abdul Kader and am justified and have the right to intervene to speak up on his behalf and to participate in the Aastana. What I see happening at the Pietermaritzburg Aastana is not philanthropy and sufism which represents Hazrat Soofie Sahebs legacy and conditions of his trust. I see instead Nepotism. A swimming pool for the swimming instructor , a gym for the fitness instructor, the Aastana for the son and at the helm the parents. Mamoo had voiced his concerns and fears that you all will systematically dismantle and sabotage what he and those who assisted him had worked so hard and selflessly to put in place at the Pietermaritzburg Aastana. He epitomised selflessness, compassion and magnanimity which is what a true Soofie is. Since his demise the life and light at the PMB Aastana has waned to such an extent that no one feels welcome or can have hope of receiving sincere spiritual help, upliftment or healing from there. People are perceptive to genuine spirituality and philanthropy. There should be no place for a self-serving Pseudosoofie with the gift of the gab and the ability to spout lengthy discourses and discussion and a dictatorial demeanor, who is incapable of getting his hands dirty in humble servitude to the community, at such an Aastana. I am voicing what others are thinking. It's time someone challenges this behaviour and takes it to the congregation and community of Pietermaritzburg which the Aastana serves. There is no Aastana without a congregation and community. That this should happen to Abdul Kader in these adverse times ,under your watch, in Hazrat Soofie Sahebs Aastana and under the devastating financial, medical and mental effects caused by the Covid 19 pandemic is unacceptable, shameful and inhumane. For you all to say it is not you'lls responsibility to provide food and check on Abdul Kader's needs and wellbeing is unacceptable! You all are not living in a private estate and neither is this an inheritance! You all are living in the Aastana as caretakers and supposedly doing Hazrat Soofie Sahebs work, so you all are duty bound to care for the hungry, dispossessed and helpless especially so family!!! Should you all think it's not you'lls "JOB" then you all should not be in the position you'll occupy!! I have no personal motivation or vested interest in this endeavour as I am self sufficient, Allhamdulillah. I am doing my best to get Abdul Kader rehabilitated both physically and mentally. Financially I will pay what is within my means to assist him but I will be requesting help from the family and Mamoo's supporters in PMB, perhaps in the form of a small monthly stipend to cover his medical and food costs until he becomes self sufficient and to prevent such an unjust and inhumane situation from recurring on his return to PMB. I will be getting psychological/psychiatric reports should there be any doubts about his condition. It is going to take a while to restore him to some normality hence it is unlikely he will be able to return to his profession for some time yet but he has expressed his intention of doing so, InShaAllah. He has much support and sympathy from the PMB community and I am sure knowing he is not alone, will help him to regain his confidence and strength to fight back and InShaAllah return to a normal life in Pietermaritzburg where he rightfully belongs. In conciliation I am instructing you to fully restore his office and it's contents to the original site. You have 48 hours to inform me that this has been done, failing which legal proceedings will be instituted. His practice has suffered enormously and I shall have to consult our legal counsel to liaise with the legal practice council Vis a vie the way forward. We have no desire for animosity and hostility but such prejudiced conduct should not be permitted to continue with impunity. When he is well InShaAllah there should be a review of the trusteeship issue with other male descendants linked to the PMB Aastana with community involvement to safeguard Hazrat Soofie Sahebs legacy and vision for the Aastana and the inclusivity of the contributions and suggestions of all trustees, the congregation and community. The qualifications, competence and motives of the present Trustees must also be scrutinized. When he is strong enough to return to PMB I will be coming to stay on alternate weekends or one weekend a month to ensure he is well and not neglected. In the interim between my visits I will request assistance from the community/other family members to check in on him and they must be allowed full access to him. We shall use the spare room which Jameel occupied when he took care of Mamoo(opposite the room my parents occupied) and the room adjacent to Abdul Kader's room(should Umar Farouq accompany us)in the Aastana family house. Ensure they are cleared of clutter and other personal possessions and the furnishings restored. I also request that any of Mamoo's personal possessions/furniture removed or taken without Abdul Kader's permission/knowledge be returned to the house and to him. I require a remote control for the gates and house keys for access as the present situation is quite ridiculous and untenable! Everyone is either sleeping or occupied with other personal activities! This communication will also be sent to family and to the Pietermaritzburg community.
