In this channel, we demonstrate our advancements regarding the development of a prototype self-operating excavator.
So far, we have;
- developed our chain motion-control system
- developed our arm motion-control system
- with the help of *Virtual Vehicle*, validated our control systems on simulation
- validated our control systems on a 1:14 scale model excavator
- transformed a regular mechanical-valve controlled hydraulic 14 ton *Hidromek* 's LC140 excavator into a 'drive-by-wire' excavator
- enabled remote-control capability on the LC140
- deployed motion sensors on the arm joints and chains of the excavator
- transferred our control systems on the excavator and started first self-excavation tests
- deployed GNSS (with RTK capability for enhanced accuracy) and IMU sensors for localization and started first navigation tests
- deployed LIDAR sensor on the excavator and started object detection tests

Tele-operated Excavator
Excavator tele-operated from one city to another. The cities Kocaeli and Adana are 800 km away from each other. Operator in Adana controlled our excavator in Kocaeli for five days using a 5G trial infrastructure.

Teleoperation of construction/deconstruction machines is critical in extreme weather conditions and dangerous areas. In addition, it offers comfort for operators and and time-savings for contractors.

Object detection with lidar for self-operating excavators

Our perception system developed for self-operating excavators, detects objects from Lidar's point cloud data and encloses them with bounding boxes. Excavation demo on 3D model with arm sensors and lidar

Excavation movements are applied simultaneously on the 3D model of the excavator through arm sensors deployed on the vehicle joints. Reflections of the lidar deployed on the left-front corner of the excavator are also visualized as point cloud.
