CPKC Laggan Sub - Busy day in the Rocky Mountains - CPKC Scheme 4805, KCS leading and Business Train
On October 30, 2024 I found myself in the Rocky Mountains for what would turn out to be a very successful day trackside on CPKC's Laggan Sub. After missing a few trains at sunrise, we'll see CPKC hotshot 100-29 at Banff West with a KCS leader before the sun could rise above the mountains. With a few trains to the west of me, I drove through Banff National Park and across the Great Divide to catch a pair of westbounds at Ottertail, where 112 was to meet 3 westbounds. After catching 112, I headed back towards Banff to catch the next fleet of westbounds which was led by a KCSM unit. While driving up the Big Hill, I pulled over at Cathedral just as CPKC 113 was descending the pass. Set up at Banff, we'll see three westbound grain trains, along with the main target for the day; CPKC 21B-29, the Royal Canadian Pacific. After being recrewed at Canmore, 21B took the siding at Banff to meet 112-29, before heading west to Lake Louise to pick up their passengers. We'll see the train at Castle Mountain and Lake Louise, before settling in at Morant's Curve for 3 eastbound trains, one of which has a CN 100 unit leading. Unfortunately due to the high volume of traffic on the CPKC Transcon, 21B-30 would come by just after the sun dropped behind the mountains - however they put on quite the show! We'll end the video at Banff, where 21B was running around their train to make the quick trip back to Lake Louise to drop off their passengers. From my hotel room in Canmore, I saw the business train heading back to Calgary around 0130.

Переглядів 22921 день тому
In the second video from @boxcar-media and my trip to Helena, Montana and Mullan Pass, we will spend a morning in the Austin area and an afternoon between Helena and Austin. We start out by catching a westbound coal drag starting up the pass at dawn, climbing through the early morning fog and first rays of sunlight. In this series, we’ll watch it gain elevation through the reverse curves as the...
Last Stand of the MRL - BNSF Mullan Pass - MRL SD70ACe Helpers and BN Executive SD70MAC - July 2024
Переглядів 84121 день тому
In late July 2024, @boxcar-media and I made a trip down to Montana, to witness one of the greatest shows in Railroading - the Mullan Pass helpers. As always, the beautiful scenery and the manned helpers did not disappoint. Even though BNSF has taken ownership of the Montana Rail Link there was plenty of MRL power in the helper pool and traffic was fairly steady. In part one, we saw end a day on...
CP F Units in the Rocky Mountains - Banff to Lake Louise Royal Canadian Pacific
Переглядів 28 тис.28 днів тому
In the midst of a very successful day along the Laggan Sub, CPKC 21B-30, The Royal Canadian Pacific rolled into the siding at Banff for a meet with CPKC 112-29. This gleaming heritage passenger set was powered by CP 1401, CP 1900 and CP 4107 and was deadheading to Lake Louise to pick up some passengers for a sunset trip to Banff and back to Lake Louise. CPKC 21B was behind three westbound grain...
VIA Renaissance Delivery at Washago in 2004, The ONR Northland plus 12 CN trains
Переглядів 149Місяць тому
Back in 2004, before the Yahoo groups, Facebook and other forms of information we enjoy nowadays, you’d just head trackside and hope for the best! One of the best examples of this was being at Washago and an extra VIA move came by with ten Renaissance coaches from Bombardier’s plant in Thunder Bay. We also caught the Northlander and 12 other CN freights on what was a busy day on the Bala Sub. 0...
Brighton to Clarke - CN Kingston and CP Belleville Sub February 19, 2009.
Переглядів 116Місяць тому
On February 19, 2009 we headed out to the east end to catch some action on the Kingston and Belleville Subs. We wound up in Brighton for a few trains and headed to Port Hope where we caught VIA 57 backing up to Coport. We later learned that CN 121 had experienced a power failure and 57 had been trapped in behind them. With the mainline backed up, we settled in at Newtonville to watch the rush o...
CN 435 with a pair of GP40-2W on Oakville and Dundas Subs - March 2009
Переглядів 169Місяць тому
On March 22, 2009 we heard that CN 435 had a pair of GP40-2W, which was an unusual consist for the era. We caught up with the train at Ninth Line in Oakville and chased it west to Brantford. And we’ll fill out the video with some clips of trains at Mile 30 on the Halton Sub and Bayview. 0:00 435 at Ninth Line in Oakville 1:36 435 at Bayview 2:51 435 at Brantford 3:49 581 at Brantford 4:14 581 a...

Where is 1118, 41 and 6060 in the video
holy soot!
27:06 engineer does a heart symbol 🤣
I believe the full length dome car is pre- Milwaukee Road.
There is one of these F7‘s displayed at Cranbrook station BC
Trains are the best traveling environment protection in the world, look how few engines can transport so much stuff. We need more trains globally. Thanks for the video I love listening to trains 😊😅
Sure are a lot of KCS units on the IMS trains you captured. Interesting to the the CSX domestic cans mixed in with the CP containers. Obviously some transborder agreements between both railroads now that CP was ousted from the EMP program a couple years ago.
Are these the ones that were with 2816 if so why aren’t they with her now and where is she?
Good job I hope u more videos uploads
Pity the horns seem to no longer have the classic Airchime D-sharp minor tuning. Just don't sound right.
The Burnett/Holden M3H horn was the best sounding horn.

Love those old switchers
Great video, well done!
F units have to be the best looking locomotives ... ever.
They certainly are about the most stylish diesel locomotives ever made. Being a person who favors steam, I would say there are plenty of steam locomotives in the running for best looking locomotives ever. But the F units do look good. . .
They needed 3 engines for 6 cars? BS.

It will cost a lot!
Nice video, likes from me !
Beautiful train! If you had a regular camera with you, I bet you have some classic photos! I’m jealous! 😉
I hope the "Crossing Will Be Closed" notice @28:44 was just for a temporary closure?
yes
Kudos to CPKC for keeping a bit of Canadian history alive 👍🇨🇦
I like the two steam whistles because I make great impression’s of her lots
As a railroader we call this the President's train or the business train where many of the company's customers are taken on a scenic tour and entertained.
Absolutely fantastic. And great job on the timing of the perfect lighting conditions at sunset on the river bend at Morant's Curve.
So cool...would have been great to see it in person!
I am always looking for lengthy videos of EMD "F"-units on youtube. I truly enjoy watching them in action. The Canadian Pacific A-B-A "F"-units in this video are gorgeous! I LOVE the livery. I am the proud owner of three HO scale brass EMD "F"-units sets. All are A-B-A sets from Overland Models, Inc. Most of these "F"-unit vids serve as inspiration for HO scale layouts, including this one. I enjoyed watching this video.
This is beautifully photographed. Highly professional. Needs date of operation added to captions.
Fantastic! I come from the UK and steam locomotives and Diesel locos are a regular sight on mainline routes. They run up to 70 mph plus sometimes and haul long 10/11 car trains with a spare class 47 usually at the back just in case. But they sell out almost immediately as they offer a silver service meal it all pretty amazing. Never understood why they don’t do it here especially through the Rockies . They should get that huge steam loco in Jasper and restore it a huge task and cost but what a people puller it would be .
WOW what a fantastic video and beautiful scenery. We enjoyed this video and have a wonderful rest of your weekend.(Steve)
This should be offered to the public daily, also the track needs to be doubled.
Why?! like they’d use it? 😂. Doubt it
Only in Canada ,Eh!
Weres 2816
Looks nice
Fantastic video and we enjoyed watching. Have a great rest of your day. Steve
Another breaking it friend awesome video 💯✨🫵🏼
Super nice video, big thumbs up :)
Wow very cool video and great to see the classic engines and rail cars. This must have been for a special event as the livery and stock date back to the 50s and 60s. As far as I know CP doesn’t operate passenger service in Canada not since the 70s.
Don't know why the grey/purple paint scheme is the best; it just is.
It's not purple, it's maroon or burgundy.
Nothing like a classic set of ABA or ABBA F's pulling the Canadian across Canada.
È uno dei miei grandi sogni e desideri prendere e percorrere in treno la ferrovia delle Montagne Rocciose del Canada. Sandro Aosta Italia
Great catch of the RCR wonder who the passengers were, I was left off the list LOL
E bell 😬
That's for the freight train; the 2 F9As have a physical bell on top of the locos.
@@kristoffermangilaI see that, but at 4:40 you can hear that the F units are fitted with an E bell which is strange and sounds very out of place.
Nice capture on Morant's Curve. Cool of the crew to give you the horn salute.
When did this train ran ?? Awesome shots and great video , it was also good to see a grey kcsm over there
wonder when 4107 went to block from her script livery..
Very beautiful video friend greetings 🎉
Awesome video✨👌🏼💯🔥
Agreed!!!
Thanks for putting this together.
