Alberta Prairie Railway - Stettler to Warden - July 28, 2024
After spending the day riding the Alberta Prairie Railway on July 27, before heading home to Edmonton we chased the southbound train to the Country Hideaway at Warden, Alberta. The train was led by APXX 7438, a former New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail Canadian GP9, which was then purchased by the Central Western Railway, a shortline in Western Canada. As well, the train operates with a consist of coaches in the classic CN Green and Gold Scheme, along with a caboose. We'll see the train at 3 spots, with multiple angles at each location and then take an aerial tour of the Alberta Prairie's Warden Yard, which features some eclectic equipment; inside the red barn is the CN 6060 undergoing some major work.
If you haven't checked out the Alberta Prairie Railway, it is worth the trip; both for a train ride and for a railfan chase!

CN FP9A 6514 and FP9B 6614 were brought down to CN Walker Yard LRC from the Alberta Railway Museum in mid-July and were spotted at West Junction. After working a night shift, I headed up the Westlock Sub to catch 418 with BCOL 4642 leading. Victoria Street was a great spot to watch trains, a nice sweeping curve in both directions and 4 tracks of almost non-stop mainline action on the GO Sub and CN Kingston Sub. My special needs son loves trains 🚆🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂🛤 they're one of his favorite things in the whole world 🌎! He sure hopes that the line between Settler and Coronation will be rebuilt and used again and the 6060 will be restored to operation real soon or sooner than soon.

@@LakeshoreRailVideos I was fairly sure about that! I retired 9 years ago (and it still seems like the other day) after 35 years in the S&C department and got to see almost every nook and cranny in western Canada.
@@daveluehr8685Awesome! I’m in the RTC Centre, so we deal with everything, but don’t always get to go out and see it in the field. Although I have been fortunate enough to see most of the east, now that I’m out west I’m going to make an effort to see the west.

How often do they schedule CANDO trains on CN lines? Are there any in Saskatoon as well?
I’m not too sure about Saskatoon, but the Cando trains run several times a day in the Fort Saskatchewan area.

My son is special needs and he really likes the Rocky Mountaineer finds it a very interesting passenger train but wishes that it would be more affordable to ride for the middle and low class.
