How to Shift 13 speed Tractor Trailer Transmission
If this is helpful please like and subscribe.
This video explains how to shift the eaton fuller 13 speed transmission. The shift pattern is identical to the 9 speed pattern, however when in the high range you have the ability to split the gears into a low and high range.
This is a very simple video. As soon as I come across another 9sp I will post a video showing the similarities.

How to shift Volvo I-Shift Tractor Trailer
Переглядів 101 тис.9 років тому
This video shows a quick How to: on the Volvo I-Shift / Mack mDrive AMT (automated manual transmission). I am in a 2010 Volvo 780, with Volvo I-shift gear ratios 3:21. This is by far the smoothest shifting transmission I have ever operated. With the Volvo I-shift dual clutch reverse is a breeze compared to other auto shift transmissions. Check out my other video "Volvo 780 I-shift AMT Transmiss...
Volvo Truck I-shift AMT Transmission

This video is of a short drive using the Volvo I-shift. I am driving a 2010 Volvo 780 (VNL 780) with Volvo I-shift gear ratios 3:2. This drive shows how easy and effortless the transmission shifts through the gears using the Volvo I Shift dual clutch. The Volvo AMT Transmission offers great fuel mileage with "eco-roll". The manual shifting options allows you to choose your gears when you need t...
Not easy at all. I keep grinding on the gears the gears dont go in if it's not at a specific rmp and if ur driving in the city it's very hard to synchronize everything while still being a defensive driver it's very easy to forget to switch up the switch from high to low and it's very easy to forget what gear your in to begin with Not easy at all
This really helped..the preselection of the high gears i didnt know you could do..thanks
So is it like an option of automatic or manual?
When do you have to use the lo below reverse kindly help
8 forward, split the top 4 + low = 13. Not brain surgery.
Best demonstration ever!!!
No body explains L button
That was probably one of the better video's I've seen in along time. Tks and post any other trucking experience you are willing to share.
This is why I drive a 10 speed because it’s a pain in the ass to think about my range selection I’m either in high or low there’s no direct or any of that I’m not saying it’s wrong I might not have enough experience
Hey thank you. I am about to start a new job on a 13 speed and I've only driven a 10 speed so this was very enlightening and much appreciated!
Your instructions were for a 13-speed overdrive. Lo/Hi is the same as Direct/Overdrive. However, one time, I had to drive Penske rental for a day. Climb into the cab, much to my surprise it was a 13-speed underdrive. It was underdrive/direct😊
How do you know when the gears need to be in the high or lo range is there a certain rpm for it? And could you just drive the 13 speed like a regular 10 speed without using the high or low gears?
Great video, great simple explanation and great demo of how to do it right.. upshifting and downshifting
I have my CDL but sadly got the auto restrict (company I went to for learning only uses autos so only trained us on autos).. but back home and wanting to use manual on ATS so got a shifter.. wanted to know how to do it.. you helped thank you! haha stay safe out there!
Really driving any manual transmission is just a matter of getting in and driving it. You can talk about it all day but until you get out on the road and learn the feel of the gearing and the speeds, you're just talking. Every vehicle is going to have a different feel to it. Eventually you get to where you're rolling at 30 mph and your brain just knows what gear to be in without looking at the instruments. It's an art, not a science.
My Opinion is Automatic Gear is better than Manual Gear
Question for anyone, I’m a new driver what do you guys mean when you say a heavy load?? Like we never get weighed , what’s something that you would consider a heavy load so i can put a picture to it?? And i do end dump 2012 peterbilt. 13 speed.
When shifting in manually should you release the Gass pedal
I drive a 10 speed. So basically the only difference is in a 13 speed is that in high gears you’re preselecting the splitter from high to low to prepare/reset it for the next gear?
Comment rétrograde avec double embrayage ?
Thank u
Great job..your video rocks
Is crazy my fisrt language is spanish and I speak English too I had seen a bunch of videos in spanish and none of them I understand like this video jajaj thanks 🙏
Thanks for the crash coarse (so to speak) My turn. 😂...I appreciate the help.
Are u pressing the clutch when you go from high and low
It’s pretty much a super 10 with a 9 speed pattern
Such a good video! Thank you!
Really just leave it on low until you get to 8.. then high.. your done.. down shift from there
Does this Volvo have retarder ? How does it work?
My question is…the way I drive my 10 speed now is sometimes I match the speed I’m traveling to the gear I need to throw it in if I need to quickly go to neutral to stop abruptly and pick back up. For example I’m on the highway doing 55 in 10th gear and traffic stops so I’ll throw it In neutral and break, now I’ve slowed down to about 40 so I’ll throw it in 8/9 gear. My question is how do I know which gear to find if that happens in a 13 speed?
I'd like to thank you for making a great video. I retired temporarily from driving 3 years ago, and I'm getting back to it out on the road because boredom, and the price of everything escalating. Primarily do to the Joe Biden Barrack Obama take over of the country. Again thank for the refresher course on driving a 13 speed. Note I've driven an 18 in the past this new Paccar engine is something new for me. Very low rpm to try and float a gear with. CWO SHOOK U.S.Army retired
I got thrown into a 13 at work, after only driving 10 speeds before. With nobody at work being able to tell me how to properly do this, I think this will help immensely.
How’d it go? Same situation here.
i've been driving a cascadia day cab for so long I needed a gear pattern refresher for a new job with real trucks. Thanks.
Nice to see this explained in line with oem instructions 👍
I just bought a 2010 387 yesterday and they said it was a 10 speed. No numbers on the shifter knob. Had been almost a year since driving so I assumed I was just messing up and not remembering the speeds for the gears. Realized it had a splitter and found your video - what a relief! Now I gotta get out and see if I can shift it right! Splitter was in low and I kinda thought my RPS's were a little high for cruising at 70 MPH. I was thinking that of course it rolls easy without a trailer...
O found myself in a situation that i have to drive a clasicc fld d 13speed thanks to You and your video i did it good been driving 3years
The best way to learn a 13 is to actually get in a truck and practice but thanks for the video cause it helps too god bless
Its not hard. I drove them before but haven’t in a few years so I needed a refresher. I do prefer 10 speed but 13 speed in the mountains is so much better.
Just buy a ten speed 😅 or an automatic. Much easier
Ty. Out of all the videos of people showing you this yours is the best one brother thank you.
I completely forgot where 13th gear was until you put it in 8 high and it clicked boom how in the sam hell did I forget to put it in 8 high to 13 damn me should of known that from the old ih Coe I used to drive on the farm
Very similar to the super 10. My first time will be in a few days. 10 speeds have been my life. Will see if this old dog can learn a new trick 😂
Red button on the side is called "splitter" because you are splitting a gear.
Do you know how to shift a 13 speed? I have no proof. Just show us. Anybody can more a stick back and forth in a stationary truck. Driving is the best training.
Easy he said lol, yea ok
Thanks you very much for this tutorial. I just bought a truck with a Cummins N14 and Eaton 13, I will be practicing on the bush
Thank you so much!!!
You can watch videos all day. But nothing will replace actually driving one.
Thanks for the refresh course I appreciate it.
My question is how do you recover gears with a 13 speed?….
