After stripping a pre-restoration Land Rover Defender donor project down to the chassis, we take it t...
Land Rover Series III - Workshop Barn Find Rescue - Bishop+Rook

This Land Rover Series III has been sitting in the back of the workshop yard for years. We had a lot of intentions of fixing it up and using it as a shop cruiser or shipping it over to the US Workshop to enjoy there. Years later, we haven't gotten around to it. Sadly, we probably won't get around to it for several more years. For more projects like this, check out the Bishop Rook website: www.b...

Knysna (knys-na - the k is silent) Is named after the town it previously called home - when not exploring southern Africa. If you’re looking for a true overlander that has spent its life overlanding, this is the Defender you’ve been dreaming of. Even though it is currently set up as a camper and overlander vehicle, we could return the second row to the standard bench seat, if you wished. www.bi...

Welcome to another episode of Defender Rescue, where we uncover the truth behind online Defender sales. In this episode, we set out to explore a beautifully dressed-up Land Rover Defender that was up for online sale. Draining it is the biggest problem. No bottom drain holes especially on the low rear bend!! Drilling them can weaken the chassis.
What dolly are you using to support the chassis?
Wow, this is a beautiful video. At times, ethereal. I love Defenders and this really captured their beauty. Thank you for making it.
Is shire Blue called also Persian Blue? I've a Defender 90 Persian blue and I'm going to repaint it to the original color soon
No shire blue is LRC392 and Persian blue isBU39....Persian blue is much older the shire blue .......Shire blue was roughly used between 1988 -1990 ...an. persian ble was used in the late 60´s by the Rover Group .
Ooof that’s horrible. I’ve been looking at getting one imported but stuff like this is pretty terrifying.

Lengends say they’re still digging out foam nuggets to this very day…
What’s it like at hwy speeds?
looks acceptable.
wax or oil is never the way to prolong the life of a lr chassis wax products cause more harm than water alone does. land rovers usually rust from the inside out , due to the reinforcement they add in the form of an angle when the chassis is made. I repair lr chassis for a living , and I give a 3 year warranty on my repairs , thats because I dont use wax ,,, acf 50 or the likes is the way to go.
lanogard too.
You guys go the BEST Defender video on UA-cam. So detailed and concise. Thank you !
Hey you still have British number plates on your Landrovers ! I love this just subscribed 🎉
Restorasi yang akan memakan waktu yang sangat panjang 😂
Excellent demonstration! Have you done a Defender dash reassembly video?
Rare original Series 1 you got there. Cheers!
100% correct, every trip is a detour! I use my TD5 110 as a daily driver and brings a smile every journey even though it has the handling ability of a garden shed!!
Thanks, great vid. I can get the karcher drain cleaning attachment in my chassis, have a new loom surface mounted in conduit and well secured, but the wires do chaff inside chassis and can short out from a good jet wash.
Damn, looks good ! Amazing condition. Perfect for future projects too
I’ll take it 😊
Really useful video. Would love to see the same line up including marine blue
I know someone who ordered defenders for the MOD and he said the British military ones had stronger axles.
I like the Patina :)
Prep and attention to detail makes all the difference. Well done!
It’s alive!!😱 That’s not a tired old barn find! It’s in its prime! It’s just gotten broken in!👍 I love it.😍 Those vents in the roof are part of the Safari top, no? I could be wrong. I thought I was wrong once before, but I was mistaken. Lol
Fill the tank! I’ll be right over!🙏
How did Land Rover get away with it ?
To be fair I have a millitary 110 1985 and the crossmember is just giving up so not bad for a mud plugger.
Now products?
I had a series 3 swb petrol for a few years, as a weekend " play" car, and absolutely loved it. Even in bad weather where as much water finished up inside the vehicle as there was outside. I had to sell it when a new job meant a longer daily commute and I needed a more economical car, but I do still miss that old landy..........
I have about 700 k kilo's experience with the 300 tdi Your best upgrade will be to add the Madman engine system asap Just the water level sensor will save you a blown motor as a small leak only shows up when the heat gauge on the dash starts to move - and that only starts moving at 105 deg C - way too late The madman has single handedly transformed my D1 into a reliable vehicle as "issues" are noticed long before it puts a halt to things Good condition Defender you have there - will be watching with interest
Hi there Mike! I have a very original Tdi200 110 Hardtop in South Africa if you guys are interested. Let me know, and I will contact you
P R O M O S M
Just a typical old Landrover then, they’re all like that in the UK, I’m doing up a 1990 defender 110 just now that looked okay, I knew when I bought it I’d need to replace pretty much everything that rusts!
They were for sale signs you would have them outside your house for sale. That's what salty British winter's do to land rovers
WOW 300 tdi is amazing!
that looks like one of the uk's finest lol ,another thing that makes me laugh all these idiots selling chassis with no numbers online and they say they are legit they didnt come out the factory with no number ! they get them galvanised and call them new and these idiots online buy them and if the po po check them out they will be getting crushed once they build them idiots ,if they dont have a reciept from the original chassis provider they aint legit simple as.
I want to do this conversion...which exact discovery transmission will fit on this type defender
Why was nobody opening the throttle until much later on and after much engine start? Seems like all it really needed was the guy leaning on the front wing or the other two standing round to reach down and work the throttle by hand?
Always worth saving!
Love that 90. Put some front mudflaps on it though, that finishes the look. Oh,and a heated windscreen, they are winter awesome !!
Hello friend, how long did this restoration take and how much money? Greetings
Sheesh - this is in rough condition! What's the ballpark cost to get it back to factory condition?
On something like this, to get it back to factory condition would be a hard one. Granted, a lot of our donor projects get new doors/bulkhead, etc so it's not that far off. We just suspect some of the other areas are just as bad. To get back to factory condition, it's probably between $60,000 - $80,000 - as the donor provides no real value other than being a VIN number and a chassis to start with. The goal of this project is to make it a solid driver that can be enjoyed. 5 new doors, some mechanical work, and slowly do the rest over time.
they should learn how to drive manual. I want to convert my discovery 2 to manual.
why would you do that?
@@overlandready because if you can drive manual you can learn to drive anything.and they are more fun then a automatic. I'm soon going to to convert my disco 2 to manual out of a disco 1 & then make it look likr a jeep gladiator except I'm making mine with a 6 ft bed.
Haha, love the GoPro shooting stick!
Love it!! How did you do the shifter?
When you replace the chassis, what do you do about the original vin number stamping ?
the dark green strip around the upper body/windows interacts in a very nice way with the weighty-ness of that roof rack...a very different look! (and it is hard to beat a bunch of tools strapped to the outside of a land rover)
What model was that black all glass Land Rover on the hoist?
I think the defender during the late 90s where the best land rover ever brought out . Those alloys "I think there N.A.S. speck " where standard and also fitted as standard BF Goodrich tires . That and a 300tdi /R380 set up is bomb proof . The Indian company tata owned land rover then I think.
A sad day. Look how they massacred my boy 💀
