Range Testing Meshtastic Nodes (Point to Point)...
Here I walk around town and send messages to a client inside of my apartment. I have separated these nodes from any peers/mesh so we only have a point-to-point system.
I find a maximum non-LOS range of around 1.2miles!

Off-Grid Messaging With LoRa Meshtastic

In this video we take a look at how to set up a Meshtastic client and specifically how to create a private "channel" so that you will not receive public messages and the public will not hear your messages. 1. Using AI to monitor police radio for me... (Citizen style App)

In this video, I show how I've taken my SDR-Pi police scanner from audible to textual with AWS Transcribe. The quality is not great yet, but I plan to improve it over time and eventually make something similar to Citizen at a smaller scale. The reference code is here: github.com/awslabs/amazon-transcribe-streaming-sdk/blob/develop/examples/simple_file.py

Building a $600 P25 Police Scanner for $250!!! (SDR-Pi)

Here is my latest weekend project; a Raspberry Pi 5 with an RTL-SDR dongle running SDRTrunk software. It is configured to listen to the local LAPD channels and runs great! The chip gets a bit hot so I think I need to add a fan.

I created a similar system with Faster Whisper on github. It can run completely locally on even a raspberry pi and depending on your computer specs, it is pretty damn accurate and fast for speech to text. I then use OpenAI LLM for the sentiment analysis portion which builds a daily report which my program then emails to me.

This is going to push departments to full-time encryption so fast. Really wish people would stop talking and showing this stuff. It's going to kill the hobby

My only issue so far is the screen doesn't allow to see all of the options, once you're inside sdrtrunk. Trying to come up with a solution. Otherwise, everything is working great! Thank you!!! Edit: I hooked my Pi up to a computer monitor and was able to resize the windows there and set up sdrtrunk how I needed, then moved back to the touch screen.

Hi, I would love to help contribute to the development, and also to satisfy the needs that I have. I want to do this with the police scanner app, or scanning website. I like that you are using the RTL SDR dongles, but even with giant antennas, my basement apartment blocks almost all signals, even right next to a window. I pick up very staticy analog audio, and digital audio streams never pick up. If I can get an antenna outside, then I could make a setup similar to what you have, and decode additional talk groups to watch for things of interest, but since I rent, I really doubt that will happen. So my idea is, run the police scanner app / website in the background, that handles the police audio, then have the program constantly transcribing all the traffic, by saving 1 min audio files, of course there's going to be a small delay, but that's okay. I also want it to show on screen like you have, send me an alert for things that match my criteria, through something like MS Teams or Slack, which I know how to do. Then, additionally, play an aubile chime or message. That chime could just be a notification sound from that Slack/Teams channel or through Home Assistant which plays on my Google Homes. The reason why I want to do this is because I've been swatted quite a bit. It's not like I'm super popular or celebrity or anything, but I'm well known enough in my area and in my town, that I've been swatted several times, including a former employee who continues to try to call the police on me. I've been interested in this idea for quite some time, and I periodically search for police radio transcription options. There was another project I found that also used the Amazon library and one that used a Google library.

At this point though, why not just buy a dedicated tablet and running a radio scanner app?

Hi, Top DNG. I was wondering if your SDR-Pi was still working well. Mine was working very well for a couple of months and then last weekend suddenly it just went quiet. No control channel showing, and of course, no audio. Some folks from the SDRTrunk Facebook seemed to think it was the geomagnetic storms and to give it a couple of days to clear. Well, that was more than a week ago, and no improvement. I'm curious to know if you're having any issues?? Thanks. ~Frank

The texts on screen are so small, it can't be read. The attention is too long on the same computer screen. Maybe shorten this up, take the boring parts out of it. Show a talking head in stead of text that can't be read. Add a puppy or a smiling baby or lower yourself and make a dance before the camera.

You have my undivided attention. I've been contemplating making something like this for a while and your video gets me motivated. I would love to use a smaller display to match the foot print of the Rasp Pi. Is that a touchscreen with USB cable back to the Pi? or does that pop up go away on its own as the software loads right before you hear the dispatcher talking?

How is your pi5 holding up with sdrt? Have you considered ading a second sdr dongle to handle the bandwidth of your metro p25? In my case pi5 was just not enough to stay stable running sdrt with 2x rtlsdr's in sacramento. The cpu remains very close to pegged like yours, and this resulted in way too much dropped traffic. I reverted back to using an old x86 laptop for now.

Good video! I like the stress test point to point nicely done. Im new to all of this and have been researching the meshtastic. Question, can i transmit and will my info packet jump through multiple( other people's nodes) to my destination? Like a radio repeater? Or will it jump if other people have their nodes powered up and on line?

    • @TopDNG
      @TopDNG 6 місяців тому

Yes that's the idea, if you live in a densely populated area, chances are there are other people with nodes powered up on the default settings and your message will be routed through them!
