The Cassettone Two: A Mellotron Inspired Synth | Announcement Update
Переглядів 6 тис.8 днів тому
This announcement video includes a number of new updates! Hello! I’m excited to share that I’m busy developing the Cassettone Two, the next evolution of the Mellotron-inspired instrument I built a few years ago. For those of you who have been following, the Cassettone uses tape loops to create unique, customizable sounds-and with this new version, there will be two cassettes instead of one. Eac...
Exploring Feedback Loops with DIY Audio Gear | Experimental Sound Techniques
Переглядів 79013 днів тому
In this video, I’m playing around with feedback loops using a homemade piezo mic, transducer, and a little amp I put together as part of my "Surface Feedback" sample pack series. If you want the samples from these experiments, head over to my Patreon: patreon.com/TheSoundofMachines.
Vintage Piano Sample Pack: Cassette Tape Sounds from 1964
Переглядів 881Місяць тому
In this video, I’m sharing something special-a sampling session with a vintage piano that’s been in my family since 1964. This old piano has seen a lot of use, and while it’s been tuned a few times, it still carries that unique, slightly out-of-tune charm. I’ve recorded every note on it, capturing both a clean version and one with a little extra character by running it through a cassette tape. ...

Download these ridiculous samples here: www.patreon.com/posts/jangle-box-110332953 In this video, I’m showing the process of creating a sample pack from one of my musical creations-the Jangle Box. Originally just a decorative box, I've repurposed it into an instrument that uses hobby motors to strum different strings. By controlling the motor speeds and string pitch, I can create a range of sou...

When it comes to Ableton effects, the differences between inserts, chains, groups and racks can get a bit confusing-even for some of us who have been using Ableton for years. Piezo mics, a motorized platform, and weights-processing sound in Ableton Live
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 роки тому
Here's a quick project in which I stuck piezo contact mics onto different weights, and a metal plate. A motorized platform drags additional weights across the wired-up surfaces, and the resulting sounds are heavily processed in Ableton. Follow me on Instagram for more audio goodies! thesoundofmachines 0:00 Description of Machine 1:06 Signal Processing 2:41 Performance
Now this looks like fun! I have amplifiers, pedals, cable, etc but it looks like I need to get a transducer 😊 How did you route the signal when you were recording with the pedals? And how did you make the contract mic? I’m guessing there’s a piezo disc buried in there.
Stupid
Dude! This is nice...
This is awesome! Following closely
bro you are a saint for providing kits! i cant wait!
👀
👀
Cool idea! I wonder if midi input could be possible 🤔
Cassettone SIX maybe?
Didn’t you rip off Caleb Mclaurens guitar hero cassette synth and use it to win Moogfest in 2013?
Haha. I think I know a few of those words.... google search here I come.
For me its the fact that we all have seen that mystery circuits picture from 13 years ago yet barely anyone is repping mike walter in these videos.
Bro ripped off the chamberlain too 😬
@@CircularMirror7 What are you all on about. Can I help at all? Do I need to call someone?
My dude is creating an open source project using open source concepts end easily sourceable components. Your baseless conplaining contributes nothing. Try to create instead of destroy.
this is brilliant. thank you. awesome.
The hero we didn't know we needed!
Oh boy. That's a big role to fill 🙃
open source hero
Genius idea, thank you, i've built some prototype ! It's facinaiting!
Cool.
I love this so much.
so cool
This is so awesome, man. Can't tell you how much it's appreciated you're helping keep tape culture alive and thriving!
Thanks! It's such a great sound. Especially when they are these grungy, dirty tapes...
i dont know if you will consider this feature but ive thought about it for a while: what if there was a mode that made it so that each press of a key (either per key or all total) it would only output one of the cassetes audios (or have it invert the blend) for added veriety and uncertainty. If each note has a release time this would be another way to create note pairings
@@trollkarlenjp interesting! That sounds like a feature that requires some coding. Right now I’m deliberately leaving out any controllers since that bumps the build difficulty up a number of notches! Future maybe?
@@TheSoundofMachines i know barely anything about that, but surely there is a way to figure out the logic and build it in hardware (that is if it sounds like its inlign with what you want this product to be). im not part of the discord as i ive just lurked here (love this btw), but sounds like that group would be a powerhouse
✨🏆✨ so inspired! …I just joined the patreon and am giving s whole three dollars per month 😜
Thank you! Every little bit helps keep me going on this journey. Can you also tell a few thousand of your friends to join as well? :D
@@TheSoundofMachines I’ll do what I can!
I will be first in line for the kit! Exciting!
Right on!
That is beautiful - creative and pretty special. Love it
Thank you so much!
I ordered a transducer when this video came across my feed the other day. It showed up today and I just finished wiring it up(I built a piezo mic and an amp years back). Can't wait to get going with it here in a bit. Thanks a bunch for sharing this!
@@mraduanemc fantastic! I hope you get some cool results
Awesome stuff as always, Rich! Keep it up!
Proper horrormovie stuff 😮😱😍
I'd love to hear this played on a steel string acoustic guitar, tuned to an open chord. This little setup is absolutely wild. Worth me subscribing to your channel.
If you want to remove hot glue, just use isopropyl alcohol, the hot glue peel right off.
The cooking pan sounded very musical.
Awesome!😮 Right in time for Halloween!
very inspiring video, thx!
amazing, especially for soundtrack work, or, Halloween
Nicely done! What type of transducer do you recommend for these type of experiments?
@@theloach5458 the one you see here is an 8 ohm. If you do a search online you will find a lot of sellers selling this model. Just remember you’ll need to really amplify the signal!
Really nice idea. What is that harmonizer pedal?
Awesome!! I've got so many ideas and plans that didn't even exist 6 minutes ago, my head hurts. Now to just find the time! Thank you!
@@antico.2757 I love these types of comments! Have fun :)
Great Sound!
I'm super excited to build this.
No wsay to get this player in Germany. I'm very sad, I really wanted to build this thing, but my electronics-skills aren't enough to use an alternative cassette-player, I wouldn't know about the wires and cables... :(
Bummer!!! The access to these being as spotty as it is is one main reason I'm working on a way to make a player device on the Cassettone Two.
hey rich i cant find a byron statics cassette player anywhere, any other suggestions?
Totally crazy 👌🏻
You should add more solder to the lead just before removing it. That way some flux gets in there and makes it flow better and it's easier to get a suction ... Then it comes out clean.
Man I really want to make one of these... It would be cool if you could just put a digital variable resistor and have midi What this needs is an envelope. You should put a modular ADSR on this . I want to make something like this .. thanks man.
Call it The Springymajig
I like the milkman knobs more than the tweaking knobs
You can avoid ruining the threads on the threaded rod by threading a nut onto it past the point where the cut will be done. Then unthread the nut and it will recut the damaged threads.
Great tip! Thanks!
does the synth need a sandwich?
I'm pretty sure trent reznor gonna love this.
Theres a guy in his band that has a similar set-up :)
