A "dictée" is to memorize how to write correct grammar and vocabulary since french is full of tricks and exceptions. It has nothing to do with developing individual opinion, which is something highly valued in the french school system, by all kind of exercices other than dictées.
Great overview of the cultural divide. Thanks! As a corollary I’d add that in France family is more important than peer group for close relationships. To the questioner who is a French citizen returning to France, there is a well-detailed process for repatriation, complete with how to get a Carte Vitale and how to import your possessions duty-free. Contact your nearest French consulate.
"everything that is not allowed is forbiden" totally wrong , you can't be guilty of something not prohibited by law in France
The French are polite in their daily interactions. They expect politeness and it opens doors - when in doubt, be polite. Talk quietly in public and that goes for all of Europe. In London growing up as a kid, you could always hear the obnoxious Americans calling attention to themselves. It was grating. I’m American. I worked in Brussels and Paris in 2004 and many of my French co workers worked until 7 pm or later every weeknight. They came in later some mornings tho.
Loved this posting! Merci beaucoup! ❤
I disagree with your statement that the worst crime in France is pickpocketing. What about the terrorist attacks at the concert venue (Bataclan), the supermarket incident (Jan 2015) where there were people trapped inside, occasional riots in the suburbs with cars set on fire? It isn't as bad as the US, that I agree, but to infer that there is no violence is not painting a true picture.
pickpocketing is no even an issue (maybe just for tourists in paris) lol streets violence is much more the reality knifes are the gun equivalent in france
Yes, and everything is not black and white. Blanket statements.. I’ve been to France where French people have warned us not to be in certain parts of the city after dark.
Leeds called it the “most common” and “highest” incident crime, not the worst. She mentions drug violence, which is worse than pickpocketing.
Well yeah, it was 10 years ago. She didn't say there is no violence or crime. But you have more chance to be pickpocketed or scammed than being a terrorist victim. A riot in the suburbs is not something dangerous, plus it's in the suburbs, where you probably will not live anyway.
@@FanNy-ku6wt the daily problem is not necessarily terrorist attacks but physical attacks as well as knife attacks
Bonjour ! MARVELOUS! ADRIAN is really a "marvel" ♥
That was a great webinar. Very informative.
Thank you for this video. I am planning to retire to Nice in 2026. I have however watched UA-cam videos that warn women about certain arrondissements in Paris that are not very safe when traveling alone. As an educator I am very pleased to hear about the French respect for education 🩷
Ditto
Really loved this posting Adrian. I think your daughter was educated by the best of both worlds. Writing to dictation is an important skill as is free writing. Both should be taught. It’s great to hear so many people interested in France. 🇫🇷 may she continue to be La Belle!
Has the US system changed so much? When I was in school English was the equivalent of Dicte. Lol debrouiller indeed :) I can see I will fit in well. I hate it when people shout in a restaurant. I love the right to disconnect. Set those expectations now :) Adrian, you hang the items in the sun to dry them ;-D
Hello Dear, Fédération des Alliances Françaises USA, I hope you are well. I visited your UA-cam Channel. Your content is Excellent. But your Channel is not growing, Because your Content title and Description are not SEO-friendly and do not have Enough Rank tags. This is why there is no Content Coming to the top of UA-cam. As a result, your video SEO Score is very low. According to VidiQ, (your channel's video's SEO score is 50.4/ out of 100, which should be 80+). If you want, I can make it 80+ , which will help your channel grow faster. If you SEO your videos Properly then the Channel Progress will be very Fast & Subscribers and Views will Increase. If you want I can solve problems and help you rank your videos Better. If you are Interested Please Let me know. Regards, MARUF (UA-cam Video SEO Expert).
This was so valuable, Adrian! Truly appreciate this breakdown. And also discovered the likely reason why I have always felt such a disconnect as a westcoaster living in the U.S. The west had a foundation of Spanish colonialism before the English traditions arrived by way of westward expansion. Major clash of ideals.
Loved hearing that the French respect education. America needs much more education these days. And although I am an American, I feel many Americans think they’re better than people from other countries. It’s embarrassing. I think I’ll fit in really well in France.🇫🇷 Thanks for this great presentation.
Thank you Adrian for sharing your experience, in listening the last year to Adrian’s presentations I have learned so much. I have just received my visa and will be shortly engaging her groups services to obtain a long term rental. I initially met with Patti from her team so knowledgeable. Joyeux Noel 🎄
Interesting cultural differences. Thanks!
I live in Mexico just over the border from the US. Many would say this isn't the real Mexico; whatever that is but I can tell you it is another world. So when you titled you piece, "Crossing the Cultural Divide" it motivated me to say how much I understand what that means. I wish you well and thank you for sharing your experiences as more and more Americans will realize what we took for granted may be an answer to the political madness we find.
Thank you so much for this!! She is amazing.
Believe me, I’m so sick of the corrupt systems & prices in the US, I am making serious plans to move out of this country
The videos on your UA-cam channel are amazing. We can learn a lot from watching your videos. We gain knowledge about many things. However, the videos that you have uploaded to UA-cam are not getting views. The reason for this is that your videos are not SEO. SEO is the main point of the UA-cam algorithm. Whenever you SEO your videos, the UA-cam algorithm will take your videos in front of people and you will get views. Thank you
Ja dore this video! Very generous Adrian! Thank you
Are Texas residents included? Will there be any dates in 2026??
Was excited until you said California residents excluded, why?
Great questions for the interview.
Muchas felicidades!!!
How do single seniors find perhaps a roommate to share housing costs in France?
Bonjour Adrian - Je m'appelle Joan. You and I are very close in age (28 May 52) but I've been dreaming of living in France for decades. Post US election 🤦♀, once I retire in the spring I will definitely be making plans to finally move to the country of my dreams. I've calculated my Medicare premium in the US at $500/month! Universal Healthcare @ around $170/month sounds wonderful 👩⚕Being a city girl and a minimalist I prefer renting and would love a small charming studio apartment somewhere in Paris🗼(preferably US expat friendly neighborhood). I've watch videos on Nice and it's quite nice but I've been obsessed with Paris forever. I will definitely utilize your services once I'm ready to make the move. Merci beaucoup for this informative video 🙋♀
35:05 Wow. Renting in France is more affordable than I thought.

Where is the resource guide that you mentioned? I don't see any links??

Ce qui serait utile, ce serait de faire une liste des regions et petites communes de France sans immigration, c'est a dire sans racaille violente. Les villes, on le sait, c'est fini.
This video is 3 years old. France has never been a good country for investments. but in 2024, it is worse: extremely high taxes on EVERYTHING: your dog. your car, your motorcycle, your TV, your home, second residence, and many other things. You pays between 22 and 33% of taxes, la TVA, on everything you purchase. You cannot purchase more than $1000 euros of gold per month as a protection investment. The worse is the crime level. France has become increasingly violent and unsafe, due to massive immigration from African countries, and also Mid-Eastern. Don't be gullible. 99% of YT videos about France are selling a dream, not the reality. Its' all lies and deception. I am a French expat and I wish I could return to my country for retirement. Du to massive immigration and the extreme insecurity that is now plaguing my country, I will not return
I received a Diplome Superieur from the AF on Blvd Raspail in Paris in 1974. Those were wonderful, fun times!
Language skills will make all the difference. Take the time. I'm a native speaker of English and have been living and working in France since 1990. I was fluent when I arrived but I've worked with families who have got into various types of difficulty, largely due to insufficient planning. Some have left as they were overwhelmed. Returning to some countries is not easy either as you may actually need to factor in the time of recovering various rights back home. Two pieces of advice : plan and learn some key language elements as soon as you are thinking of coming.😊
55+ communities do not exist in France, that is an American concept of a sick society!
"They don't do that in the week-end" ... neither between and 12 and 2, and not after 5PM, it's France! Also, Montpelier is plagued by violent immigration like Arles, Nimes, Nice, and all South cities, and many throughout the country. France is INVADED by islamists, please take note!
Property tax in the US can't be compared to Europe in general. Completely different. Look what the tax is used for. There are other taxes for those public services in Europe.
Great video, Adrian! As a French teacher working with expats, I often hear about the cost of living being a major concern for those moving to France. Your insights really highlight the affordability of life here, especially compared to what people might expect. It's inspiring to see such practical advice being shared - I’ll definitely be pointing my students and clients to this video. Merci for all the valuable information!
Get your assistant on the ball. Slow, low energy, repeats herself. Just read the questions!!!
In one of Adrian videos she discussed her U.S. Phone numer that she keeps for 2 step verification for banks, bills in the U.S. I listened to this video for the 2nd time trying to find the answer. Do you mind just responding and letting me know how you/she uses/keeps her U.S. Phone number, company for it. Thx
Martinez Melissa Lewis Jennifer Robinson Deborah
Great info , I'm so glad to have discovered you.
Superbe.
This was a wonderful video. I've now lived in France for 3 years, and I totally agree with Adrian about living here. I have zero desire to go back to the US. I learned a lot of my French at the Alliance Française, too, and I definitely recommend them. Motivation will get you to speaking it, no matter your age.
Thank you. What are the maintenance costs of apartments like?
i was born in Montpellier it's a good cheap town very good weather, the sea but you have to live just outside the town and i can garantee you will have a very beautiful house for a lot cheaper than nice with almost the same weather AND NOT IT IS NOT GREY ,
LOL 7000 euros per M2 for renovation Renovation is usualy 1500 2000 euros/ M2 Maybe you have put gold on your wall don't know
strasbourg is shit to my opinion no sea , bad weather Lyon is 2X better than strasbourg
I am french and yes if you have to go in justice in france good luck (very long and very inefective) that's a big thing you should talk about it too
lille strasbourg lol no thanks (i am french) consider biarritz , menton , frejus, monaco (for rich people) but nice is a good choice indeed avoid marseille to my opinion but not the north with poor weather You want to have the sea or an ocean very near where you live, i couldn't live in Paris for exemple (maybe because i have always live next to the sea) We go to the beach when it is hot but don't worry it is not crazy hot don't exagerate If i had to pick one town myself would be biarritz or saint jean de luz i love that region (personnal preference) because beautiful and most safe region of the country
