I am thinking of doing this on my daily driver 97 model d21 pickup ka24e what thoughts do you have on doing this
Could you use a distributor from a L20 B motor instead of the NAPZ distributor and not have the extra four spark plug ports? I want to put it in a KA24 motor.
Would it be the same amount of work to convert a distributor for my 1988 vg30 carb swap?
hey! What distirbutor is that one? thanks
From a Z22, Z24 will work also.
What does the wire from the coil - to the distributor do? Im trying to learn my new 720 and this is the setup I have
The wire from the dist to the coil, signals the coil to fire.
@@biyordie4886 to be sure it comes from the coil negative to the signal wire in the dist? Is this what grounds and closes the coil circuit?for some reason I believed the coil was always energized like a capacitor and just discharges when the point contact is close enough to the distributor rotor. I am beginning a rebuild and really want to simplify everything and remove as much unnecessary clutter as possible and want to learn this function.
@@danielescobar7618 Yes, coil neg to dist. It's a two action deal, the coil is energized till the distributor shuts it off. At that point the coil field collapses and causes the secondary winding in the coil to send a high volt charge out the spark wire to the cap where the rotor needs to be pointed at the correct plug.
@@biyordie4886 got it. Thanks man learned something new
8 commercials while watching this video. You really ought to drop some F bombs and disparraiging comments about some activist group
8 commercials? And I don't see a dime from it!
@@biyordie4886 makes it very hard to watch and stay concentrated on learning the concepts you are teaching. You have a very gentlemanly demeanor, you gotta drop a mandatory f bomb and smoke a cigar during your into if they're not going to pay.
Very nice work. I want a ka, but want to keep my weber carb.. was wondering why people put l20 dist. assblies on... I get it now. Thr vac advance. I have a 720 with an engine on its last leg.
Aloha, im trying to wire my nissan ka24e d21 wiring harness to a 6 pin ka24de frontier distributor and run wasted spark coil on plug. Im using a ems to control timing. Im having trouble getting the cas to trigger the spark. Finding solid information about this is difficult
You inspired me to do my own dastun rat rod. 72 510. Stuffing full size axles under trying to get the wheels ro stick out without narrowing the box. Lowered to 4" high , quarter elipitical suspension. No front clip at all.
Approximately how long were your 3 link rods?
I have sold the car a while ago, I think they were about 26" (lowers)
More on this truck please sir.
These tube frame, road racing s14 cars have been my dream car for quite a while now but I've never seen one gone through like you did or the details behind the pictures. One day I hope to own one myself. Have you been able to take it out since this day and feel the chassis a little bit more?
So how do you make the other 4 plugs work
A KA24e only has 4 plugs, so I don't use the other 4.
See here ua-cam.com/video/95_tnPbrJg4/v-deo.html
This video is the last one I can find on it 😳
This first video I've seen in a while did you finish it? I've looked and found the videos I've already seen. 🤔
'20's & '30's cars sat two people... have you considered narrowing the cab also? Really interested to see what you do with the front of this...
If you use a sandmask to create a straight line and then use a sandblaster to cut it. It will come out perfect without all the headaches of using a traditional cutter.
So when cutting the windshield, would I need to blast from both sides because of the lament? Do you think blasting will work on the tempered side glass?
@@biyordie4886 Yes You would have to blast on both sides of the lami ( mask both sides evenly). As for the tempered unfortunately You can not cut it in anyway unless you remove the tempering which requires furnaces, etc.
@@DaXtremeist Thanks for the idea!
@@biyordie4886 You're welcome. I found your channel because I am planning a rat rod build out of my 86 nissan Hardbody. I love the notched frame you did. I'm just wondering how far i'm willing to go lol.
Super cool! This is an awesome build! Can't wait for next video.
Thanks! I'm getting there slowly but surely!
@@biyordie4886...I own a 78 620,..and its a slow build,..keeping it ratty ...but your build is just straight awesome!...very inspiring!!...aloha from hawaii!!
Where do I buy frame and susp parts?
There are a ton of retailers for suspension parts, Afco, Joes Raceing, Coleman, Southwest speed, e-bay, Summit raceing, the list goes on. Google search is your friend! As far as chassis, There are a few manufactures. You have to search around, try Ken Muth, Tony Avey. Check with local ovel track shops.
Just came across this video it's going to be a lot of fun when done.
Go Pro
It's looking good ! The fender pieces will make it look better. So are you going to be putting the roof back on or leaving it off?
leaving it off
@@biyordie4886 yeah I think it's gonna be a fun rod .
nice! back at it
Good job !
Seen some of this video last night like the way you "Z" the frame and axle set up.
Good video I'm liking the truck want to see it done . I've been looking back and found some of the video's.
Thanks, I'm itching to get working on it again!
@@biyordie4886 I'll be looking forward to seeing it
At 7:25 you talk about having to readjust that nut again later. What are you adjusting with that nut?
That nut adjusts the preload on the front wheel bearings. After I roll the car around a bit, and do a short test drive I'll adjust them again.
@@biyordie4886 i really appreciate your videos. Thank you!
Man, that sucks it didn't hold up. But as an owner of an 87 Z, I'm super stoked to see what becomes of this car.
Thanks for the comment, I hope to get something built this winter.
Driveshaft loop
i really enjoyed the build videos thank you for making the effort to show the build!
Glad you enjoyed!
What a bummer
Yeah.... wasn't a complete surprise as it was a used stock engine, but would have been nice to get more than 4 laps!
Please get some video of this on the track. Coming to Colorado and ever? I'd love to watch this thing compete.
How is the build going? How has everything been? Just finished rebuilding my VG30 for the second time and can't get it to run good. Came back to watch you videos for some motivation. It is insane how much there is to learn. I am just starting my car journey and hope to get to your level some day. Anyways, greetings from Las Vegas!
Viva Las Vegas! Nice to hear from you. Hope you figure out your running issues. FYI, I put my cam timing back to stock, didn't seem to run quite right retarded that much. Things are putting along, I'm trying to get out to a track day but they keep canceling do to covid. I'm going to try to get a video done of installing a accusump soon. Keep cool!
@@biyordie4886 I was battling low oil pressure and now it seems like i lost that battle haha she started to develop a decent tick/knock. I am not sure where I went wrong but you live and learn I guess. It was first time rebuilding an engine by myself so I can't expect it to be perfect. Failure was inevitable. Looking into a VG33 swap at the moment. Also I heard that setting the ignition timing to 20 degrees instead of the factory recommended 15 degrees gives it some added power, maybe that works? Lastly, I'd love to see that car on the track! I am looking forward to seeing those videos!
So how does it feel? Did you drive this car before the rebuild?
Well... I only drove it on straight roads so it felt good. Keep in mind this has a used stock engine so not a lot of power. I tried to go to the "local" track today, but they canceled do to covid. :(
Oh, and no I did not drive this car before.
Such a cool build!
Thanks, appreciate it!
Wow! That GoPro footage is nice. We're definitely getting one!
Thanks Wayne, couldn't have done it without your help!
Greetings from Las Vegas! I own a Nissan 1989 300zx and found your channel going through some forums to learn about the VG30 powerplant! I’m attempting to build an engine for the first time so I was researching to find inspirations and I’m glad I came across this channel. I’m excited to have a chance to watch all the episodes. Thank you for filming all of it! Looking forward to seeing this thing race! Keep up the videos 👌🏽
Thanks Eddie, and good luck with your projects!
When will it race?
I hope to road test it next week and track test the end of the month. Real race in July?
@@biyordie4886 Very cool. Where do you race out there?
So it appears there is not much of a bumper on the car, and the air from the radiator will spill into the engine bay. Do the rules keep you from ducting the radiator outlet out of the hood? And could you incorporate a bit more of a crash structure? Also, how much does it weigh? Car looks good!
Rules wont allow hood ducting. I could add more bumper bracing, but not really needed. Road racing ( amateur ) is generally non contact. About 2100 lbs. race ready. Thanks for the comments!
@@biyordie4886 Thank you! Is that 2100 with you in it or no?
@@westonmansier3538 Yes, with me in.
Nice duct at the hub. Effective!
I am pulling a KA24E out of my 1989 240sx this week. If you or anyone needs it, free to a good home. Engine and auto transmission both in working condition, no issues before parking the car.
where ( about ) are you located?
@@biyordie4886 Northeast Ohio
@@westonmansier3538 Oh, I'm in Idaho. But thanks anyway!
If you could, please give us a tour around the nose of the car in the next video? Looking forward to seeing that.
What is the silver and orange stuff you are using to heat shield?
The orange is a high temp silicone covered fibrous tube. The silver is a reflective covered high temp cloth.
@@biyordie4886 Is there a specific time to use either one of them? Like one is higher temp or something? Thanks for the response!
@@westonmansier3538 Yes the orange is higher temp. but more expensive,
Nice Fuel Cell vent idea
Thanks
@@biyordie4886 Thank you for all your responses. This is a very unique tutorial for youtube. Hope you get a lot of views! McManus (spelling?) has a great set of videos on door slammer NHRA cars, but there isn't much using legitimate tube frame road race cars. Keep it up!
How thick are all the tubes I am looking at? I assume the bumper is made of something smaller and thinner than the chassis?
In general most main cage tubes are 1.5" x .095 DOM. The square tube the same. Yes, bumpers and other support structures are smaller and thinner depending upon the actual function.
@@biyordie4886 Must be pretty light!
Did you build the headers or where did you get them>?
These are Z31 headers bought on e-bay. I modifyed them to fit.

How much horsepower do race vg30's make?
Average N/A is close to 300, fairly high $.
@@biyordie4886 I'll bet. Probably a really fun car with anywhere near that power
I have a set of vg30 heads. Not sure what they are off of, but you could have them if you want. They are literally between you and the recycling man this week.
Thanks for the offer, but I will be using VG33 heads on my future VG30 builds.
@@biyordie4886 Ok. Off they go!
Do you end up getting a lot of rocks and debri in and around the rear suspension? Always wondered if tube frames had problems with that or if they had wheel tubs that prohibited that. Did you make the sheet metal?
There is plenty of clearance so debris is usually not a problem, however the rear under tray catches a lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned out periodically.
Also some people use wheel tubs, but it is for aerodynamic reasons.
@@biyordie4886 Makes it easier to maintain things without them I suppose
@@westonmansier3538 Yes, especially on a car without access from the top like mine.
