There was plausible motivation in the anime. There were scenes where the queen chastised Charlotte for giving gifts and speaking to Griffith, a man of common origin. She even said herself after the poisoning was carried out that the royal bloodline was at last protected, and her sole motivation was to prevent a commoner from marrying the princess and sullying the royal heritage. And honestly, it was a good, and expected reason. Just because the manga is so good (and it is, no doubt) doesn't make the anime any less accomplished as a story in and of itself, I've noticed this happening with your manga readings more and more lately, that it almost seems like you're disparaging or misremembering things, simply because the manga did it a little better. Don't be so hard on '97, homie. They really did their best to deliver a (mostly) self contained story as best as they could, and did a damn good job on it, frankly.

I'm just gonna say it. I sympathize with Corkus, and always have. Imagine you're just a guy. A guy trying to make a name for yourself on the battlefield, and in strolls Chad McHugesword, killing Dan, whoever that was, and out performs the last 10 years of your life in a single sortie. Now he's got free meals, free lodging, the respect of the kingdom, would *you* throw that away? God no. I totally get why Corkus thinks Guts is a POS, and if I were in his shoes, I'd be saying the same things.

When I'm in a bad spot in my life, I listen to Guts' inner monologue to Griffith as he leaves. You'll get up. You'll overcome this. It's just a stone in the road. You'll get past it. Berserk is perfection.

You were on the money. It's implied through the dialogue that Guts knows something, and was probably going to tell Casca about it, but stopped himself, knowing that if anyone knew, and their reactions weren't genuine, it could compromise Griffith's countermeasure.

For the anime-onlys: Queen's getting involved because she's been having an affair with Count Julius. Griffith had him killed, so the queen is getting revenge. And knowing the, uh, let's call them "personality flaws" in the king, I can't say I blame her.

Crazy how the best episode in the show doesn't involve a battlefield or bloodshed. That's the magic of Berserk. Not the crazy action, but the insanely powerful character progression arcs.

When Griffith said he wanted his own kingdom he didn’t mean to rule over he just wanted to be a Disney princess

So I’m a little late to the party with this one. But I have one more piece to give. another reason why Guts was crying at the end and was so torn up is because before all of this, he at least had a delusion that it was fate or causality that caused Griffith to do what he did. But he just watched as one of his enemies was offered the same thing power, and refused it to save his daughter. Guts now knows without a shadow of a doubt that Griffith could have, and didn’t choose him. And it destroyed him.
