Mary Wilson is the perfect example of being a Professional Singer and keeping a career absent of Solo hits and Pop Solo fame. That's how you know she was talented. She didn't have to be relevant by industry standards to LIVE OFF OF singing the rest of her life. Job well done. You don't have to be the "Star" to make it. She made it without radio, videos,.without an extraordinary voice, (although she was a SUPERB balladeer), without Motown s push and financial backing and she stayed in demand on the road until the day she died. People need to recognize that the business ain't just on the radio or the charts..A PRO is someone who gets paid to sing. Period.

She never had a good voice....and this proves it. From what I know, she wasn't a nice person in real life either. I've heard horror stories from her former singers and also from her form background singes. Not too bright either. I remember once when after a show, a fan asked her to sign a Beach Ball poster, which was from a movie in gthe 1960s. And she asked where he got it and if it was worth a lot of money. He said it was, and she asked, "How do I get my cut?" What? She got paid in 1964...that's how she got her cut. But she didn't get it.

I saw Mary Wilson and The Supremes perform at a gay bar called The Roundup Saloon in Austin Texas in 1983. Mary loved and played to the men who showed up in in glamour drag for the concert. The manager told me it was also in their contract to have plenty of Kentucky Fried Chicken available in their dressing room. There was less than a hundred people in attendance
