"Seeing Through Spiritual Blindness" - Sunday Homilies at St. Anthony
On the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Deacon Mitch Vicknair reflected on the theme of spiritual blindness, tying it to the exile and return of the northern and southern tribes of Israel. Deacon Mitch explained how the first reading from Jeremiah speaks to God’s unwavering care for His people, even those who have been exiled. In Hebrews, the dual role of Jesus as both king and high priest is emphasized, pointing to Him as the ultimate answer to the hopes of both the northern and southern tribes. In the Gospel story of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar who calls Jesus “Son of David,” Deacon Mitch highlights how Bartimaeus’ desire to see stands in contrast to the ambitions of the disciples, who sought high positions. Bartimaeus’ humble request to see is presented as a model for overcoming spiritual blindness and seeking to view the world with faith-filled eyes.
The homily transitions into a timely reflection on political choices, encouraging the congregation to prioritize Catholic values when voting. We're reminded that while no candidate is perfect, forming one's conscience through the teachings of the Church is essential. Drawing a parallel to the Israelites who rebelled against their flawed leader Rehoboam, Deacon Mitch stresses the importance of respecting the authority of the Church, even in difficult choices. He urges listeners to examine party platforms through the lens of Catholic teaching, seeking to prevent moral decay, and ultimately making decisions that prioritize faith. He closes by encouraging the faithful to follow Jesus with the gratitude and humility of Bartimaeus, choosing spiritual insight over worldly ambition.

On the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Fr. Viet Nguyen opened his homily by reflecting on a striking line from Isaiah, which says that the Lord was pleased to crush His servant in infirmity. This unsettling passage, pointing toward the suffering of Christ, raises important questions about why God would will such pain for His Son. Fr. Viet explains that the original Hebrew text does not imply that...

On the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Deacon Rick Vogel presented a simple yet powerful message: second place is not enough when it comes to the race for eternal life. He reflected on the story of the rich young ruler from the Gospel, noting that although the man had wealth, youth, and prestige, something was missing in his life, which drove him to seek more from Jesus. Deacon Rick emphasizes th...

On the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Fr. Viet Nguyen reflects on his experience with marriage preparation during his time as a transitional deacon and presents the "Four Fs of Marriage": marriage is free, faithful, fruitful, and full. He explains how these four aspects of marriage correspond to the spiritual realities that reflect God’s love for us. In the Catholic wedding ceremony, couples are...

5/5/2024 - "Sunrise Mass" Spring Choir Concert at St. Anthony of Padua
This is the first time in my 65 years hearing that the Virgin Mary had siblings. How have I never heard this? I thought St. Anna and Joachim were blessed to finally bear a child in their older age. Can anyone on here share more about this? Very confusing.
Another comment shared they had heard that Mary's husband was the wife of St. Joseph and brother to St. Joseph. Which makes much more sense. I'm going to the relic one more time today and hopefully I can find someone to clarify.
I accept you as my friend and I accept you gift. Jude I need you to help my husband.
God is with you , Father David, Thank you
There were chain letters being circulated regarding Saint Jude that if you didn’t pass the messages to a certain number of people they you would suffer disaster. This was discouraging Jesus is Lord
Amazing message!! Thank you Lord
Father David, I was present in that mass. I miss you so much . Thanks God for having the great opportunity of having you in Saint Anthony of Padua
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 BRAVO, Father David , you are The John the Baptist of this days !!! THANk YOU
I thank St. Jude for his gift on All Saints Day and today 3rd Nov I got the gift. Thank you my friend Jude and Thank you Jesus Christ... My life's force❤❤❤
St. Jude, please pray for the intentions of my friend Betty and me, in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
St Jude grant me my 3 prayers. I have said your novena for 9 days please answer my prayers 🙏🙏✝️
I do wish Fr. Carlos would visit Ireland with the relic of St. Jude. If anywhere needs miracles, it's surely here at this ;present time. St. Jude is my patron saint - well the main one! Impossible causes. Thanks for posting this great video
Yes, l would love if Fr Carlos could bring St Jude to visit Ireland too🙏
Funny thing about the reference to John Paul II's "new evangelization" is that the faith in places like Ireland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary went through a MAJOR decline in church attendance, holy order vocations, and amount of people who confess Catholicism during his papacy. The "new evangelization" of Vatican II failed miserably due to the errors of religious liberty, collegiality, and synodality. The only way the Church will re-evangelize the world will be to rid herself of these errors and preach the full and uncompromising faith as Fr. David here so eloquently does.
Great video. It's great listening to a priest so knowledgeable. But, man, had we still have Jesus's letter. . . .
I’m so glad and blessed to find this St. Jude Votive Mass with Fr.Carlos Martins for I am praying to the Saint of hopeless cases not completely knowing of his life and story. I am now more inspired and motivated to wake up 3 in the morning for 42 days now saying the Holy Rosary and novena to St. Jude asking for the healing of my husband’s health who was diagnosed with cancer . Thank you so much Lord God🙏🙏🙏🙏
St Jude, please pray for me and my intentions.
Awwww,,Saint Jude I accept you as my friend and I ACCEPT the gift that you will give me today. Please intercede for me and my family,In Jesus Mighty Name.
~ 30:20 To look at that person who is staring at us in the mirror and to say to that person: I forgive you, I release you from what I hold against you, and I ask God to give you a blessing instead. I believe I have done that in the sense that I believe I have accepted God's forgiveness. July 11 eight years ago has proved to be the point of no return in God's victory over lust in my life. However, lust has had effects on how strangers on the streets perceive me, which persist to this day. Yesterday or earlier today, in a video of a conference on impurity, I heard the bishop say that lust is the mother of frivolity, of losing one's sense of dignity, and of losing one's sense of gravitas, among other things. Because of the video of the bishop discussing those effects of lust, I now have proof that those things should be among the effects of lust, and it has been the case with me. If this doesn't happen to other people it should happen to, while it does happen to me, it is because of God's Mercy. God has the right to be less merciful to me, or maybe more merciful to me, as the case may be. Those three effects of sins from decades ago, those three effects on steroids and in peculiar manifestations, and in combination with DNA and other early influences, have caused me to come across to strangers on the streets as someone they can react to or behave in the presence of in strange ways up to these days, without me doing anything to get noticed, but just the way I look does those things to them. It is particularly ironic, for example, when those things happen nonetheless while I'm giving help that was asked of me. Those, in turn, have combined with other things, some of which are results of those, all in all forming a great mess. St Jude please help me in union with the Gift of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I saw this video for the first time today. I wonder if I could apply ~ 30:20 by saying that I forgive the self who had lust that lasted up to eight years ago but which has consequences that last up to the present. That I no longer hold those consequences against that self. That I ask God to give that self a blessing instead. Like I said, I believed I have accepted God's forgiveness long ago. But now I do this on top of that. Still, the consequences of sin persist and the mess. I think this is Purgatory on earth and is better than the Purgatory after death. But if there is a way it could be lessened and end soon, and yet I could go straight to Heaven after this life, without losing any good thing from God, from Whom all good things come ... I believe I do Divine Mercy Sunday well. Does this mean all that I suffer are not anymore merely purgative but contribute to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the Flame of Love. St Jude, I am your friend, do not leave me, please help me, my friend.
Saint Jude please intercede for my me and my family as we are going through a very hard diffult times fanatically. No money to pay bond. I need your interession. In Jesus name Amen

Beautiful video. Can you please tell me where in the USA the St Jude’s Relic will be in January 2025?
Check the treasure of the church website for his calendar.
I love these interviews! Welcome, Fr. Nguyen!
Thank you!! You blessed us with your words and helped us to put the Eucharist and much else in the same context and perspective. Let's also ask ourselves why is the world so ignorant and confused about the meaning and divine nature of human sexuality, about the sanctitiy of life in the womb, about God's design for both sexuality and marriage and their eternal dimension. That the world does not know the truth on these, it is also our responsibility and fault, and not the fault of Congress, the Supreme Court or politicians in either party. Let's take this moment of Eucharistic revival as an opportunity to surrender in honest conviction and take action on these areas, because this is what being Eucharist is all about. God bless you !!
This is beautiful Father, I know you will be a wonderful Priest! Thank you for offering your life for all of us!❤
St. Jude, Apostle, Martyr and relative of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Mary and Joseph, I love and believe in you My Patron Saint, I love and believe in you. My special and powerful Advocate, I love and believe in you. Please do not despise my poor prayers or let my trust be confounded as I give you thanks, praise, honor and glory. Thank you, St. Jude!!! You have interceded for me and done so much, but I feel that I never have thanked you enough. Can you please forgive me for not taking the time to thank you enough before. I am so very grateful to you and always will be, but if I have not shown it, then please forgive me for my stupidity. You, Our Lady and Our Lord has got me this far in my life but it is still a long road. I will always need you, Our Lady and Our Lord to help and guide me through it. I humbly asked that you pray with me and for me, please continue to help me St. Jude and please don't leave any of my prayers unanswered. Thank you, Lord, for prayers answered through the intercession of your servant, St. Jude Thaddeus!!! Amen
I don't see how St Anne and St Joachim had one more daughter named Mary. I thought they were a barren couple. Others say that Clopas is the husband of that Mary and Clopas is the blood brother of St Joseph husband of Mary Mother of God.
Somethings are beyond our understanding. Keep your in God
Thank you! This makes me sense. I just commented my confusion over hearing that. Just like you said. They had 2 daughters with same name?? I was trying to share with another person about Jesus and Jude being cousins. I couldn't make sense after I got to thinking so I thought I must have heard wrong. Then I listened to this video today after hearing him in person 2 days ago. What you say makes much more sense. Even at that we need to know how this is a known fact.
❤ I feel compelled to declare my contrition for not knowing and comprehending this information before my recent blessing of attending this tour here in Ventura California at Sacred Heart parish. I now have third class relics that I finally understand the real value of. And just like Father Carlos Martins said I feel I blew my opportunity to more greatly show my respect and devotion to the Saint apostle Jude Thaddeus in the moment. But I do accept his friendship and blessings. I pray that I be forever changed 🧎🏽♀️➡️ I am going to forgive myself, so that I can be an example to a Christian life. Amen 🙏🏽
Amen ❤❤
