Piston rod installed on crankshaft
Again, my hands and head get in the way of the picture. I have no script, I am just trying to show things as I go along. I may not be the best at explaining the process I am trying to demonstrate, But as always I am more than happy to explain the procedures in comments. I am still very much an aperture at this video making. Please bare with me!!!

This video shows how I installed the #1 Piston into the John Deere. I realize that my head has blocked parts of the video, and I will be happy to answer any questions in the comments. Hope you enjoy!!!

Great videos. Our 1952 A gas has a slight knock coming from the crankshaft area. Otherwise runs great. Any advice on what to look for before digging in? Thanks
Thank You for watching and the kind words. You might pull the top cover and see if there is any signs of play in the connecting rod bearings or wrist pin. You can also get an endoscope (about 70 bucks on Amazon) and you can look down inside hard to see areas. You can also look down through the spark plug or petcock ports and inspect for any unusual wear inside the cylinders. Hope this helps.
You're the one person who takes the time to explain everything. In the long run, it's videos like this that are really going to count.
I sure hope you start making videos again. You do a good job, most guys don't explain in detail as you do.
I will be soon, making room in my shop to get back to work on the tractor.
I haven't had a block off in a long time but this last year I had the rear case off my A and I know how tricky it is to get that big heavy iron lined up. You got that block looking good! How did the transfer case clean up? And how did you like that parts washer when you were doing your carb. I know it turned very nice I just never played with those new-fangled parts washers wonder how much advantage it was.
The ultra sonic cleaner worked great on the carb. I think it was around 70 bucks at Harbor Freight. I will be doing some more videos soon.
@@papatonysworkshop6584 I look forward to it!
You did a very good job of explaining everything. I love these tractors because they're ingenious but not overly complicated. If not for videos like this I fear the machines might outlive any understanding of how they work.
That looks like quite an undertaking. I suppose you're taking care of a few things there you'll never have to worry about again. 2020 was sure a good year to spend in the shop, but it always is I guess.
Beautiful tractor! Thanks for sharing.
Thank You!!!
Do you know what a pitcock is?
I know what a "petcock" is.
At first I thought you were messing with me.
I just bought a g to restore today, do you have any model specific tips for a newby?
What is the year? I have mine torn down presently. I started with the head gasket blown, and decided that while i am in that deep I would replace the rings, hone the cylinders and check everything else out. Can you get it running in it's current shape?
@@papatonysworkshop6584 mine is mostly there, there's no left brake and a few other small things like the grill, but a new distributor and a carb rebuild would do it. I'm debating how far I want to take it; I'm in Nevada so no serious rust but no paint. And I want to repaint it but without pull8ng a squach253.
What is the serial number? The reason I am asking is I have one too, and the last number of the serial number is missing.

Nice job on that video papa Tony!
Thanks Babe, at least I know someone is watchting!!!
Great job!
Great job!
You'll get her back up in no time. I see your son has been lacking in the shop cleaning department.
My grandfather had a 50 B,and I always loved hearing it crank.I love to hear that distinct whine, and then the pop of it catching.Music to my ears.
Cool tractor!
Thank You
