I am now 36, have my masters in Environmental Engineering and Management with 6 years teaching experience. Can i get job in uk.
OMG! You need to absolutely keep it! Whether it's true or not, this is special to you. People create packages, packages do not create people. Rock it girl, salute kislux !
Do you know anything about Montclair State University's Sustainability Masters Program?
Hi Maddy, Thank you so much for your video! I really appreciate your effort and the insights you shared in it. I’ll soon be graduating with a degree in Economics of Natural Resources. This means I don’t have a strong background in science or a deep understanding of policy. As for working with data, I think I can take extra courses. I’m really interested in working on innovation-specifically in areas where I could consult/help companies grow sustainably. Like conduct a business proposal to a corporation. Do you have any advice or ideas on how I can get started in this field?
My background is social sciences, where should I start my journey in sustainability jobs? I plan to study Development Management and switch my career to Sustainability Consultant/Manager, is that possible?
Wow I just found you and i'm looking to be an energy consultant too! I graduate in a year and I'm looking forward to being on this journey with you!
I have experience in finance and I am studying data analytics, so this list actually makes me happy for my future career.
Debating switching from a degree in sustainability to environmental engineering because of the job market. I’m 21 years old and I feel so behind. The lack of job outlooks has made me so hopeless.
This is very helpful, really appracaite the time you put into making this.
This was an interesting video, as a Brit looking to move over to the states and work in the renewables sector I found it really helpful. I'm a Senior Project Manager for Geothermal with a background as a heating engineer so I'm trying to peice together the knowledge for visa and degree level equivalants etc. Thanks!
Can i get your linked In so i can ask more questions about doing an ms in environmental engineering in US
I’m thinking about going back to school I’m 25 I’m interested in plants I studied agriculture greenhouse and horticulture in high school but ended up moving schools and didn’t get to finish I loved the greenhouse of it all. Would this degree encourage that area of science
If I’m interested in urban planning, public policy, and environment law and have an interest in all 3 how do you recommend me to land on just 1?? I know that you’ve dabbled in a lot so how did you find out what you wanted to do the most
great question! depends on where you’re at in your career. but i would recommend looking at what jobs those would lead to - do the job responsibilities of those jobs seem interesting to you? then try to do an informational interview with someone in that position
@@SustainabilityWithMaddy Thank you, right now I’m in college! I’ve found your videos to be very motivating and helpful. Im definitely thinking to do graduate school no matter what, so what recommendations do you have for one to become a strong applicant? Appreciate your time! Also, did you have an IG as well?
Maddy 🙂❤️
Subscribed! I am a recent mechanical engineering graduate and I am planning to start a career as an energy consultant so I am really thankful to you for this video!
Wow thank you!! I am so glad this was helpful :) congratulations on starting your career as an energy consultant!
What's your thoughts of using H&M vs. Trashie? H&M also takes back clothes from other vendors for store credit. H&M is fast fashion, I know, but it's interesting to see other opportunities. Regarding rewards, is the $30 for each bag or are you rewarded proportional by weight of the bag?
hey great question! i do like that other stores are accepting clothes to have a more circular model. i personally don’t shop at h&m so i haven’t used it. and the rewards are not based on weight they just give you the reward for each bag!
@@SustainabilityWithMaddy That's helpful, and really helps me figure out where to send my unwanted textiles.
How do i discover my specialization. I am applying to colleges right now in my senor year of high school and have no idea what I want to do. I would love to work in a lab or in a field. I just want to do something and get a better idea of what it is I like about positions.
that is a great question!! you can get some idea of what specialization you’d be best in through internships, research, and even your classes. if you’re eager and want to get ahead, you can do some research/learning on your own to discover different topics! engage yourself in books, documentaries, and other content and see what you find yourself gravitating to :)
I encourage reaching out mid summer. When they are likely researching or taking short vacations. I know professors tend to get busy near semester beginning.
good point, thanks for the tip!
This video is so so helpful thank you so much . I have a BSc in Environmental Science and Technology, with major in Environmental management. I am in the process of applying for scholarships to help me study MSc in Sustainability
What do you think about MS Environmental Studies from Cal State Fullerton?
Great question! For masters programs it’s going to be a lot more specific to the student - i actually just posted a video on what to consider when looking for masters schools! But this one seems good if you aren’t wanting too many courses in the sciences. Best of luck!
What about MS Environmental Engineering from lehigh university@@SustainabilityWithMaddy
Great video! I appreciate all of the hard work and research you put into this!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Please make a video on Master in Sustainable Management & the best universities to pursue them in Europe. Thanks
Sure! Thanks for the suggestion :)
Wow. this came up just in time. I looked at ESF. They have a partnership with Syracuse University (it's across the street)! So ESF students will often use the SU campus.
Yes, great point!! they’re almost connected! Thanks for mentioning :)
@@SustainabilityWithMaddy No problem. My daughter is a HS senior and she's looking for schools with Environmental Science and Computer Science and when we realized she could take CompSci at SU, we put ESF on the list. Could you make a video on the best double majors (or minors) to go with Environmental Science, in an effort to optimize the potential career options? Thanks!
@IreneZGoodman That’s awesome, I hope the application process goes well for her!! Sounds like a great combo and a great school :) I’d be happy to make that video!!
Please make a video on environmental science scope with 3d animation
Thanks for the suggestion! Can you please elaborate on what exactly you’re looking for?
@@SustainabilityWithMaddy As I am the student of environmental science so I want to about what kind work will be available for us after graduation 🎓
You got it! I did make a video on Entry Level Jobs in Sustainability, which could be great start :)
cool, thanks :)
Great breakdown I like how you gave the cons of day to day work expectations that can be specific to these positions
thank you, glad it was helpful!

I found this very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
im loving your channel! i really hope it gets more attention! :) great work
aw thank you! this is so sweet <3
My story is the other way round. I pursued Environmental Science as an undergraduate degree and I’m going into the world of Environmental Engineering for Master’s degree 😂. I hope I won’t regret it.
oh wow! hope it goes well :)
@@SustainabilityWithMaddy Acquiring knowledge in both is amazing
we want the masters degree video!!
It’s coming this month I promise!
this is put together soooo well
aw thank you this means the world ❤️
My husband and I bought our house from a widow. Her husband was a pastor and he had a lot of religious books. We took them to Half Priced books and actually got a good amount of $ for them (plus some cassettes!!)
what a good idea! i’ll have to try that :)
i really enjoyed this video, in reality i'm watching to procrastinate my own decluttering... hope the move goes well!
thank you for the kind words, it did!
One Word for you, you are a Queen because no one can't buy you soul from a Parisian Woman ❤️
this is so sweet, thank you!
Hii Maddy, I have recently finished my master's in Environment Management and have joined EY at entry-level position. Want to ask if having a PhD helps you get into a higher-level position compared to one with a masters and corporate exp.
In the field of sustainability (or esg, climate change etc)*
great question, i’ve found that for the most part, PhDs are really just useful if you’re going into academia. But it depends on what you’re wanting to do!
Hey Maddy Albee, I can imagine the job market for evironmental scientist & engineers is highly influenced by environmental law practice, collegiate sales, & market demand. There are other youtubers attempting to influence that demand & the number of persons in the field. Could you make a video about navigating e-law practices, collegiate sales influencing certifications enrollment, and job roles requiring the certifications use daily? Last can you explain how science education is going to help the environment, if more people are not advocating for scientific objective observation where environmental conflict is greatest. Like in use of concrete, from understanding how & what are reasons it is used in construction. Please advocate more young people do concrete work first, learn where more effective alts are applicable & what those alts require. Anyone can do contract concrete work. PPE & Chalk up, aclimate body to 8-12 hrs a day, before you do day1. Drink lots of water, wear a cool rag, listen to your co-workers, it helps to speak spanish & dude/bro. Part time construction, And go to school looks great on a resume and if you persist, and are willingly to go with perspective of it being equivocal to poorly paid intern work. The job exp. Could highly benefit how well a science perspective is received, exactly where it matters most. Where humans challenge the environment. In a forest, in a creek being called a "river", not so much. Please also advocate prospective scientists familiarize themselves with laws of thermodynamics & machine heating & cooling too. Monied driven interests & law negligence are far too rampant. Hands on, scientific observations are needed. If you dont like making mud pies, getting sweaty, sunburnt & muscle sore outdoors and upsetting your peers. Ya probably shouldnt pursue the work or ed.
Thank you very much for this video! Very informative. I'm just now getting into my educational phase after being in the military for the better part of a decade, and environmental sciences has always been something I've been very interested in, specifically on the policy/law side. I'm afraid that I'd be starting late (currently 32). Do you think it would be difficult to transition into this career with little starting experience at my age? I have marketable skills outside of what my educational goals might be, so I'm not entirely worried about that, I'm just interested in hearing what your thoughts might be on someone starting (realistically at 36/37).
Thank you for reaching out! I don't think it is too late at all, especially since you already have marketable skills you can leverage during the application process. I will say that law does take more effort to get into but policy jobs would be a great start! I also recently published a video on making that transition and it dives into more detail than what i can put in this comments field :)
@@SustainabilityWithMaddy Thank you for the reply, I will absolutely check it out. Appreciate it!
Thanks for the great video. I am half way through my bachelors in renewable energy engineering (Australia) and I am excited to gain experience in the field.
Thank you! Good luck with the rest of your degree!
Trashie is TERRIBLE. They say you the bag is for up to 15 pounds of items, but they only pay the shipping on two pounds. I spent $20 for the bag, and then an ADDITIONAL $68 to ship my items back. What a scam. Also, I have been contacting their support for days and no one has responded. DONT DO IT.
You were duped by wherever you brought the bag, or you neglected to put the shipping label on the bag
this is so odd, i have never had this issue and i stuff it pretty full. i would check with the person who shipped it for you and see if they can help refund you... hope it turns out ok!
@@SustainabilityWithMaddyhi Maddy. It was the post office. They said they had seen it numerous times before and each time the additional shipping costs were anywhere from $20 to $100 dollars! The pre paid shipping only covers $10. The post office will not give refunds and Trashie refuses to refund me the additional $80 I paid in shipping. I wish there wasn’t a catch here but I should have just drove the 40 minutes to my local textile recycling center.
The job market for everyone is honestly pretty awful, to the point where it’s made many news headlines. Many business and computer science graduates are struggling just as much, which is crazy because these are two of the professions that just 5 years ago were considered ‘safe.’ In my area, environmental scientists are in very high demand statistically (this is in FL too, so I image it’s less demand than California and other blue states). However, most jobs require the ‘1-3 years experience.’ So I’m afraid we all have to suck up the unpaid internship during uni and poor paying first job. At the very least we are actually doing something fulfilling guys. IMO better to struggle for those two years than be stuck in something we hate for LIFE. Fulfillment > 200k a year salary in New York City IMO.
This is a really good point, and you're right that it does highly depend on location. I've found that even if jobs list the "1-3 years", sometimes they'll take new grads ;) Good luck out there!
Hi, i want to make my career in environment science but i'm confused like in which stream i choose water, air and land and others can you explain me ??
hello and thank you for reaching out! all are viable options and would fall under natural resources management. the job demand also depends on location, so i would check with your local environmental consulting firms and see what they are focusing on!
Certifications are much more vast than what you listed here. It depends on the individual’s strengths. I’m a technician, I started as a pest control technician, and now I am an asphalt quality control technician. I’ve used those jobs to express the need for each industry to work on reducing emissions and the other aspects of sustainability. Next I’m looking to become an EV charging station technician before becoming a dental hygienist. In all of these industries, and in all my free time, I have always worked on sustainability. Even if it wasn’t in my job title ;)
This is really encouraging to hear, thank you for sharing your story! I love that you are spreading the word and advocating for Sustainability in each industry - keep it up, we need more like you!
I want to know about Environmental engineering subject. I am BSC GRADUATE IN GEOGRAPHY.
Thank you for watching the video! I've made 2 videos on environmental engineering so i recommend checking those out!
The thing about *most* ecology roles requiring advanced degrees is not true in the government and private sector, which will make up most the available jobs! Though I guess this would blend in with 'environmental scientists.' Only roles in academia require the Masters and for leading research the PhD. However most the money isn't in research honestly. But the research is absolutely some of the most fun work you'll ever do.
thank you for providing this insight! i have also found that in the government and private sector roles they tend to blend 'ecologist' and 'environmental scientist' roles. I agree that research can be the most fun type of work!
