This is the Ninnintender channel. I take a laid back look at stuff surrounding retro video games, among other things.
My Thoughts On The First 2 Pikmin Games

pretty cool video. love the boxart for the birthday edition!
Thats pretty cool
u deserve more subs
Thanks!
I bought the anniversary box back around 2003. I put out an ad looking to buy SA2 (just the regular PAL version) and a guy contacted me saying he had some Japanese collector box ones. Paid $60 Australian for a new sealed one. Just needed a boot disc to run it. I don't like the game very much but the collector stuff is cool. I think SA1 is a much better game but playing it recently the bugs, glitches, dodgy camera angles and cheap deaths seem more apparent.
I love the adventure games but i can fully admit they are definitely rough in a lot of areas. I do think SA1’s glitches are overblown but a lot of Sonic fans will say that Adventure DX added more glitches and ruined the game’s reputation, which is somewhat true as DX had more collision issues, but the Dreamcast version had plenty of buggy moments.
Thats a cool looking collection
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video!
Thanks!
All these Dreamcast videos make me want to get one so bad

One helluva collector’s piece, but more importantly, a really fun DC game that everyone should play once. Awesome video!
Thanks brother. Definitely one of the Dreamcast’s defining titles.
I loved this video so much. It was comforting and well put together and was about one of my top 10 fav games of all existence!! My only complaint about the game in general is the weak bosses. I especially feel that Bowser was too easy ugh! His first form should have required 3 bomb hits, 2nd 6 bomb hits, and 3rd would require 12 bomb throws on a larger battlefield. He'd also teleport like he does on the 2nd match and he'd fly and cast magic from afar. This would have been epic!! My most loved locations in this masterpiece are... -Jolly Roger Bay -Lethal Lava Land -Shifting Sand Land -2nd King Koopa Stage -Tall Tall Mountain -Rainbow Road
Glad you enjoyed it. Im going for a laid back approach with these videos and i dont have a script except for notes so i hope most of my points made sense. Agreed tho. The bosses aren’t great but thankfully mostly the rest of the game is great!
@@Ninnintender Unscripted is best and feels the most authentic and personal imho.
@@reinatycoon3644 yeah its just my raw thoughts
I agree. It very much aged a lot better than other 3D platformers both before & after, such as Bug! for Sega Saturn, Space Station Silicon Valley, the Chameleon Twist series, etc. Not to mention that Bubsy 3D came out a few months AFTER this game & well... we all know how THAT GAME turned out.
Ive seen space station silicon valley and chameleon twist before, they look decent, but are certainly not as good as mario 64 obviously. Bug! never looked appealing to me, there are way better Sega Saturn games more worth your time
Might have to give the Dreamcast a shot one of these days
Stopping kids from saying “stoping kids from saying stopping kids from saying first”
Is that still even a thing people do on youtube?
Like 90% of people who say the controls have aged poorly have played the game on a Wii or a Wii U or a Switch or by trying to hook an N64 up to a modern TV without any kind of upscaler, or played the game on an emulator with input latency. The controls have aged great, the problem is that Nintendo doesn't seem to care about them when they rerelease the game and it's given them a bad reputation.
100%. My life in gaming goes in depth on this issue showing how the wii and wii u releases mess up the control. Input latency is definitely a HUGE factor. Some people don’t even realize game mode is an option on tvs so that is definitely a contributing factor.
While I do agree with you that it controls fine on the N64. However, being that it is ‘hard’ to access it on original hardware and it’s easier to play it on newer consoles it isn’t as robust as it was. This is the reason I believe the ds version is the DEFINITIVE version to play Mario 64 as you can hook it up to any emulator or Nintendo hardware and it will control exactly as it did on ds.
@@LoftyCrofty Even with the analogue mod, DS's controls feel kind of sloppy to me. DS has a lot of advantages but controls aren't one of them IMO.
Well i hear 3d all stars actually fixes the control and gives it more range as explained in the my life in gaming video, tho im not sure about the switch online version
@@Ninnintender all switch online games are ROMS and have not been edited
Odyssey felt like a Mario 64 expansion pack to me. More of that awesome movement, plus Mario gets to mind control people.
Definitely a similar design philosophy
Funnily enough, it has aged better than Mario 64 DS
I never thought about it that way but you are right!
I wouldn’t say that. Personally while the ds version by resolution definition looks worse, it looks much much better than the original. Plus more quality of life features e.g. better camera, a more mainstream control system etc
i played it for the first time in 2017 after oddyssey and i think its a masterpeice.
Still one of the best games ever made In my eyes
Most unbiased take: as a peice of art, yes it has aged well, its pretty much cemented itself into the cultural cannon of almosr all aspects of gaming. However, as a game itself, once you take off the nostalgia tinted glasses it is damn near unplayable, with slippery controls and a terrible camera. Sure mario has an amazingly versitile moveset but its just so janky and unless you are extremely precise with your imputs, it feels almost unfairly random at times. So whether or not you think the game has aged well depends on which of those two aspects you value more. It's influence and achievements given the limitations it had were undeniable, but the fact nintendo keeps re-releasing the game with out fixing any of the janky-ness and still charging as much for the game as if it were new is what rubs people the wrong way
Personally, i still think the games feels pretty good like i said in the video, however i do not believe it is unplayable. I have heard that rereleases of the game kind of mess up the control due to the different analog sticks as this game was heavily designed around the n64 controller. My life in gaming made a great video comparing the different versions and how their stick movement is different ua-cam.com/video/VZBsV6dExZc/v-deo.htmlsi=P2v9fcSHC0WMnY_9
Controls have aged great if you play on original hardware on a CRT or the PC port IMO. They're only slippery on the many rereleases that botched the controls and on the Project 64 emulator which introduces a slight input latency.
It's not unplayable. Not sure where you are getting that take from. As a kid with very little experience I got a fair number of stars on my own. This was on an actual cart, on an actual N64, with an n64 controller.
I love how people say the game has 'aged poorly' yet it and its songs are some of the most popular and talked about. And anyway, this game is revolutionary. it was the first 3D Mario and one of the earliest 3D games! The graphics are astounding for its time, and I'm sure it'd be even greater if it weren't for hardware limitations. For me, I've only really played SM64 DS, and while I like it better, the original game is great too!
Ive considered talking about mario 64 ds for a future video
@@Ninnintender Cool!
Agreed
nuh uh
Alright bud LMAO
Finally someone appreciates Jolly Roger Bay
Way better than dire dire docks
@@Ninnintender yeah DDD sucks
I personally think it's better than dire dire docks Yeah sure, it has a submarine but this stage has a sunken ship. That beats it
@@Azu_Genesis yeah the sunken ship is way cooler. I didn’t even talk about dire dire docks in the video haha
The submarine just makes the game chug anyway
Love the scenary haha also what mic do you use?
Thanks! I used a dji mic. Bit pricey and you could probably find other wireless mics cheaper, but the dji mic is very quality.
Quite suprised you came back after like... 2 years I been planning to try this game out on my Saturn someday, but I can't right now due export fees being kinda high these days or it being expensive...
Felt the urge to make videos again. The videos im making now are a lot easier to make, and i think they’ve turned out better. It seems the price for this game has gone up a little bit since i bought it.
Still have mine that I bought at Toys R Us. Apparently there are lots of stickers you can unlock when the right conditions are met, like taking enough photos, getting far enough in the games, etc.
Honestly I think the printer/sticker feature was the best part ngl
Wish i could have shown it. If i ever get a working one i will definitely showcase it in another video
Sounds brilliant:)
