I found this for real cheap since it was missing the dial indicator, so I touched it up and made a new one.

This was decorating the tap room at Fullsteam brewery here in North Carolina. I offered to touch it up for them. The plastic and metal spudgers come from iFixit.

Mine has yellowed 10 years ago, despite stored dark in a box. Something that needs to be improved is the original fist slide and lock design. It's kinda rough.
JFC why are you letting your kid near that Dremel while it's on?!!
That’s my nephew and it’s a polishing attachment my dude. I’m genuinely curious what is the worst you think could happen.
@@Davesobscurevideos your nephew could have gotten polishing compound or debris in their eyes. He could've even tried to touch the tool while it was moving. Do better, Uncle.
thats a brilliant idea for screws. wish I had thought of that sooner
i've got a VERY yellow jetfire that could use your skills. mine even has the Macross symbol on the wing. would love to get him back to his former glory
Wow! Amazing job!
any chance you do this for a fee? I have 3 of these, 2 Jetfire figures and 1 Robotech/Macross Veritech fighter
I can - email me at hance.David@gmail.com
Lot of work. Maybe when I retire. I'll just let mine be "battle tested" for now.😄
just watched both Jetfires back-to-back, both very nice, but prefer the narration myself
Real nice job! I was already thinking of nickel plating until you mentioned it wouldn't work. I wonder if it was the aluminum component in the alloy. But still, just with sanding the metal pieces looked fantastic!
Yeah, even with plating it in “flash copper” beforehand the results were not great, and I’ve tried numerous times. The finish you can get with polishing is almost as good and lacquer/clear coat Can preserve it for a long while
Great video. My favorite G1!
Thoroughly enjoyed
Looks great! Nice narration too 👍
Well done!
Wow that’s so cool where did you get jetfire can you tell me please just find us one of my favorite transformers
Ebay

Lovely restoration, Sir! ✋✊
So sorry a photographic solution could not be found to preserve the artwork and Mfg. label.
For. The jet nozzle, do you know which color red is best to touch up chips?
Im pretty sure the red is the same all over. I mixed testors red with a little bit of white. But I honestly don’t know much about matching paints.
amazing restoration dear i like your way of restoration...SUBSCRIBED...👍👍👍
Came here from your Jetfire restoration. Love the vids, man!
Thank you!
Can I only put enterely mi jetfire in H2O2 for a couple of days?
I would not recommend that.
@@Davesobscurevideos why?, is there any negative effects on metal ítems with H2O2?
@@Vickmann most of the metal will be fine but the stickers will be damaged and the black plastic will fade slightly. You also won’t be exposing as much of the plastic.
@@Davesobscurevideos Ah ok, but I already need that... cuz I want to transform one jetfire into a varitech valkyrie with a conversion kit like this: xoomer.virgilio.it/tfmedia/skit/vfx.htm thanks for your help ;)
@@Vickmann You’re welcome… and what you do with your toy is your business. But personally I feel a figure should be presented as it was originally intended. I see that kit is stickers though so you’re not permanently changing it, which is good.
👍👍
All i did on mine was restore the yellowing, Touch up the paint with a marker. & new stickers. I a not at all talented & took me a damn hour to replace the shoulder joint on the mastermind 3P bruticus..I'm Happy with what I did.I don't need to completely restore it. Cause not going anywhere. I have had mine Since I was a kid.
I have that bad boy.... excellent figure.
Very special👍👍👍
Great job! I really like it👍👍👍
Very very nice job looking great thanks for sharing 🍺🍺👍👍😷

Cool job 👍 And great restoration👍
Thank you!

Wonderful video! How do you fix a loose backpack? Mine flops down in robot mode. Thanks so much!
That’s a common issue. I’ve actually had luck by simply tightening the screws in the backpack, which seems to help compress the plastic around the hinge. I’ve also used my air gun to force pledge floor polish into the hinge itself. Although you could probably just drip it in and get the same result.
@@g1restorations226 Appreciate the quick reply. Noticed a small tab on the back pack at the hinge area. Does that help add friction to keep the backpack in place? Can you please check on your Jetfire? Noticed mine is worn and there is a bigger gap (tab bent). Searched online. No answer, but many similar questions. Also, do you have any new Jetfire vids? Thanks again!

And the doors
nice job!
Hi ! I have a problem on the main back part, that have a hook broken/missing for the shoulder. Do you have any spare part site in order to find it and replace it ? Many thanks for your answer ! :)
I’m not sure which part you’re referring to exactly. Have you checked eBay?
@@g1restorations226 this is the part you can see in this video, in the bottom left of the screen ua-cam.com/video/Qsr_PNEf-Yw/v-deo.html On eBay there is only big assemblies with just few parts missing, and I don't really wan to buy for 100€ of parts I will not use ^^ Thank you for your answer ;)
What keeps the "cap" on the adjustable bench clamp from popping back off after you Dremel it off?
I dremeled off only the bare minimum and slightly peened it over after replacing the cap.
Buena restauracion, espero te vaya muy bien en tu canal, exitos
Muchas gracias!
Nice restored sir 👍👍
It looks great! And it's so amazing that it functions!
Very nice! I repainted a Bandai reissue of the Valkrie after retrobriting. I never would have thought about filing off the casting marks on the metal pieces. I've recently played around with nickel plating, so I think if I were to do another one, I'll add that step as well.
Now there’s an idea...
I was interested in nickle plating already and your comment encouraged me to pull the trigger. I got all the materials and followed the steps and... nothing. The metal just built up a black gunk. Turns out dye cast metal is very difficult to plate. It can be done, but requires “Copper Flash” and a few other steps. I’m not quite at that point yet but may play around with it down the line.
Have you tried to use some polish afterwards? I'm getting some mixed results with some items, but I find the black residue comes off with metal polish. I've recently plated a die cast floppy disk notcher, and it turned out not too bad
@@lemonherb1 I have polished them but there didn’t seem to be any plating when i cleaned them up. From my understanding, that black gunk is the actual nickle that doesn’t quite make it on to the metal. Are you confident that your finished piece indeed has a layer of nickle on it when you’re done?
I'm pretty sure. However it was originally zinc plated. Much of that original plating had worn off. I know the voltage and amperage also has an impact. I was running at around 5V 1A for most of that process. The disk notcher is also rather large as well
The jaw inserts are Masonite.
Thank you! My father knew what material they were but I forgot what he said. It's his vise and he specifically asked for them to not be replaced or damaged, so I left them alone.
...and I thought it was similar to Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) or maybe HDF. Silly me.
try some ptfe plumbers tape used that to fix sound wave arm joints
Hello there, do you offer any services for restorations? I have a G1 jet fire that can use your expertise.
Potentially. Email me at hance.david@gmail.com with details!
Awesome video. I have a very yellowed one. Trying to pluck up the courage to do this myself.
You should! It’s worth it. The bleaching process (5% hydrogen peroxide) is pretty fool proof. And as long as you keep track of everything, you’ll be able to put it back together.
My Brothers!!
Very Nice work! How did you touch up the Red? And where did you procure those leg clips??
G1 Restorations Beautiful polished Metal
Dave Triplett - I masked off the area that was already red and sprayed it with my air brush! I believe I used Testors red enamel paint. It doesn’t match the original perfectly but I’m mostly pleased how it came out.
would you like the proper bed liner for this truck? I happen to have a spare. You can contact me at tootall1121@yahoo.com.
to whiten those plastic parts, mix the hydrogen peroxide with baking soda to a paste like consistency. Slather it on, and bag it. let stand over night.
