    My opinion this is the ugliest interface on the market. It's not even that it's ugly, it's that it drags on all sorts of too much attention. All those flashing multicolored lights wtf

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 10 днів тому

      There are hardly any "flashing" lights aside from the meters, which is kind of standard. And like I mentioned in the video, being able to color code the buttons is actually pretty beneficial. The meters, buttons, and gain/volume controls just take up too much real estate. Also what really constitutes an "ugly" interface? In my opinion, the less lights and meters it has, the uglier it gets. But I also don't buy an interface to look "pretty". I buy it for functionality and ease of use for my needs.

  • @chemdrum

    great video! I always saw this interface as an excellent choice for someone who aspires to run a recording studio with some consistent local talent who needs somewhere to record. It wouldn't be a great choice for the solo artist who only needs to record vocals, guitar, bass, or even keyboards.

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 11 днів тому

      It's exactly that!! If you planned on having external hardware but not needing a huge studio for producing your own music, and only recording and mixing, it is a phenomenal interface!!

    so how is the process to get pro tools? is there a code?

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 14 днів тому

      You will have to create an Avid account and register the MBOX. Once your product is registered, you will go to your "products not yet downloaded" under your Avid account and follow the steps to install Avid Link and iLok, if you don't already have it downloaded. You will create and account/log-in to iLok from there, and it will give you the license through that process. I had to restart my computer, then install Pro Tools from the Avid Link software. It was a little tedious, but well worth it (imo)

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 13 днів тому

      @JawillOwens once you download Pro Tools Studio, you can use any interface. I would look into the specs between Pro Tools Studio vs Pro Tools Ultimate to make sure there aren't any limitations that would cause concern.

    Great video overall. Correction on the facts. DADman products are not legacy products. They are very much alive and active. AVID licenses the tech from NTP Technologies/Digital Audio Denmark and does not own it. The DAD is the OEM company that the MTRX hardware and software for all MTRX products. The MTRX Studio was created directly for Avid , but the larger MTRX is actually a AVID Branded DAD AX32. The MTRX and MTRX II actually uses the same exact hardware modular cards that are in the DAD products they are just flashed with AVID firmware to lock the products to the MTRX chassis and allows AVID to charge more for the same exact cards.

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 25 днів тому

      Thanks for the correction!! I realized what I said in the video during the edit, and found that DADman products got revamped on Sweetwater. For a while, the I couldn't find anything DADman related that was "new" for sale. I didn't think to make sure that they were actually still selling these because of the Avid branding. I think was pretty recent that they were added to Sweetwater!! But I could be wrong.

      I feel like both the included keyboard tray and the upgraded one can support a "lightweight" 49 key keyboard just fine, up to maybe 25 lbs in my opinion. Anything more than that, I would recommend security for yourself and your desk/keyboard that if you are wanting the tray specifically for a MIDI controller of any sorts, get the upgraded one.

    Such strange that stereo mix was squashed and atmos mix is dynamic so stereo should also have dynamics like atmos but too bad that they won't gonna do it because they have to compete with modern music.

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 2 місяці тому

      Well, the dynamics comparing an older Stereo song and a newer Atmos mix of the same song will be incomparable, even in this scenario. On the note about modern music, I have a couple ideas... Competing with modern music a silly idea in 2024. The only reason Atmos can exist in the same domain as Stereo is using some kind of loudness normalization, like Apple Music's Sound Check setting. Without it, Atmos is simply just quiet compared to your average stereo master. In this video, both songs are level matched. Whatever loudness normalization setting on your streaming app will actually make the Atmos appear to be louder, because of the average loudness of slammed Stereo Masters compared to a dynamic Atmos mix allows for that, modern or not. In my opinion, being the "loudest" doesn't benefit anyone anymore in 2024.

    Same here. I work full time, 99% in Dolby Atmos, and until beginning of April this year I've only worked in Logic my entire career. But since April I've worked exclusively in Pro Tool and I'm still blown away of the difference. I feel like I did when I switched from Garageband to Logic. There is just SO much more control and flexibility. The stability is outstanding as well. And the Dolby Atmos is amazing. Not even comparable to the Logic workflow (with the external renderer). I've found myself longing to get back to the studio even more than before since it's just so much more fun now when all the boring technical issues is a thing of the past! 🏆

    • @mountainlabelmusic

      Outstanding!! Glad to not be alone!! I still use Logic for producing music. It's honestly really nice to use a different DAW for solely mixing. @@mountainlabelmusic for me Temu has been an amazing experience I can't spend money on a $2,000 headphones so I settle for three to four dollar ones and I compare it to $60 ones the ones on temu are better

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 3 місяці тому

      To be fair, a $3-$4 comparison to $60 headphones is about a 20x difference. The GM2's I had in the video are about $15-$20, compared to a $200 pair of Apple Airpods Pros, which were less than 15x the price. I don't think a fair comparison would be comparing $2,000 headphones to Temu would be appropriate, unless you are really asking for some kind of attention from (what I think would be) an extreme opinion. If you are wanting to do real critical listening, you should spend money on a decent pair of headphones that you enjoy listening on, or at least have multiple monitoring solutions for comparison and QC. I think some things are worth looking into for affordable alternatives, which was why I wanted to check these headphones out in the first place. These headphones are absolutely horrible for my trained ears for what I know and love on my Airpods, other headphones, and my studio monitors. Cheap headphones for the average mixing engineer would be the ATH-M50x's ($150). For some, they would be too expensive. Saying something is cheap or expensive is relative to the person anyways. I would not criticize anyone's opinion, solely for being an opinion. If I were claiming these headphones to be "factually" bad, then it would defeat the whole point of my video. I bought these for my own experience and comparison, and to show others exactly how I feel about them.

    no matter what they tell you, it is not immersive with phones. Bi nural, And we don't hear it on youtube........

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 4 місяці тому

      Yes, with phones it won't be "truly" immersive, and never will (in my opinion). With Binaural you should definitely hear it on UA-cam using a pair of headphones. I am also using my HRTF and headphone EQ, so the binaural effect will be different for you compared to if you used your own personal HRTF. Just to be clear though, the idea of immersive mixing is not to have a sense of direction of the mix necessarily. Unless your music calls for super exaggerated sounds placed and moved in a 3D space, you shouldn't really know where the music is coming from. It should just sound like the music is surround you in 3D space. You aren't going to "surround" yourself in music with a headphone experience as easy as a speaker playback system. The Embody software, and any software that replicates a 3D space is measly for reference purposes and on-the-go mixing.

    I just downloaded a trial of this today. I have a mix that sounds pretty good in my studio headphones already I turned this softer on and It sounds absolutely horrible in all of these virtual rooms. The high end specifically I don’t get it. Oh and the taking a picture of your ear seems very gimmicky. Idk. I was hoping this would work.

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 4 місяці тому

      Did you use the HRTF and headphone EQ? They make a HUGE difference in the effect. I mess with some of the settings towards the end of the video, and it is a huge downgrade without both of those working. Have you made any calibration adjustments to your speaker and headphone setup?

    • @RandomVelocity
      @RandomVelocity 4 місяці тому

      @@mountainlabelmusic I found it sounded better with the headphone EQ off. Idk my headphones AKG K240’s semi open Supposedly studio headphones but I don’t think they are really that flat and were not on the list. I ordered Audio Technica ATH-M50x closed back to try I heard they were good for the money. I will give it another try. I’m just started to get into learning actual professional mixing. Although my mixes already do sound good on an iPhone with or without ear buds. I do get a little mud on a car stereo though mostly low to mid range I believe so trying to fix that.

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 4 місяці тому

      Nice!! The purpose of the HRTF And headphone EQ's are definitely going to give you a more even response, And give you a representation of what it would actually sound like in these other rooms. It isn't going to make your mixes sound like they are coming from uncalibrated headphones. If you haven't used the HRTF with the headphone EQ, I highly recommend doing it before making any EQ adjustments. You can also adjust your HRTF intensity, if needed.

    So, 4 year and a half Pro Tools user here, doing Music and Audio Dubbing work. A couple of things to share here: 1. In the right upper part of the editing window, there's a button with an A-Z icon (that will enable more keyboard shortcuts) 2. A and S shortcuts for cutting waveform (A deletes the entire waveform from your selected point to the left, and S is the opposite) 2. When having the ruler on a vox track (for eg.) E will make your track to be full screen, so if you need to do something with the waveform that's small and critical, this will help, also holding Shift + Option and using scroll wheel, you can zoom even more into the waveform. 3. If you want to route multiple channels, or change track view mode, height, or anything that's track independent (even adding the same plugin to a bunch of channels), Hold Shift + Option and click for example the output of your track and selecting, let's say AUX 2, after clicking it, it will route all selected channels to that AUX 2. 4. When clicking a plugin insert, you can start to type the plugin name and it will filter it and get to it easier. 5. The internal dolby atmos renderer works like the external one (so the usage will be kinda the same) 6. Option + Shift + 3 will consolidate the selected region of audio / midi 7. In the left or right lower part of the editing window, there are for each, 1 arrow, the left side arrow will reveal all tracks, groups, folders (even hidden ones), the right side arrow will show all audio files, audio clips, midi clips and video. (In the right side, a useful shortcut is Command + Shift + U which will select all unused files and clips. then you can right click one of the selected file and you can remove or delete them, so it will help with cleanup of the project, perfect for archiving) 8. Holding shift and selecting a plugin from your plugin insert, it will open the gui and make it static, so if you open another plugin gui, it won't hide the other one (good for meters and stuff) 9. I know it's the last tip and it's the most important, configure pro tools in the preferences panel for your needs and likes (you can select a favourite eq and dynamics), BUT MUST HAVE copy files on import selected, so you won't ever deal with the "Missing Audio Files" tab, and also, configure auto backups the way you'd like. I've set mine to keep last 999 backups every 1 minute. Sadly, some times pro tools is unpredictable when it comes to crashes (It's not that often, but will catch u off guard). And a mention: Pro Tools on Apple Silicon is great, has great performance, but some plugins that were made native, have some graphical issues, like when having the plugin GUI opened, it will make feel pro tools laggy (the playback ruler will move with some lag, meters and other plugin windows will feel laggy). Once the GUI is closed, all is back to normal. I've seen this on Plugin Alliance plugins, and Vision 4X. Hope this comment will help everyone that reads it. Peace ✌

    I think with “Gen Z’s MBOX” they’re just alluding to the fact that this product has been sort of rebooted for the modern era. The MBOX line has a long history dating back to the early 2000’s. The line was discontinued for a time, then revived with this product. I just jumped on the current deal myself. Hard to pass up considering I’d be buying that Pro Tools subscription anyway (I see it as a $300 value really, since I do subscribe).

      I guess that makes sense!! I think it's a weird statement to make. But what do I know about marketing? haha Also, Congratulations!! I hope Avid ends up releasing more deals like this on new products.

      I mean, if you enjoy paying 100+ dollars a year for small trivial incremental updates with little to nonexistent support, more power to you. In my over 10 years of experience dealing with Avid/ProTools, the only thing I’ve learned about Avid is that it’s only interested in gouging their customers wallets and milking them for all they have, not helping them. I’ve had too many negative experiences with customer support and throwing them money unnecessarily to support them. If you enjoy avid, I’m happy for you and wish you the best.

    • @mountainlabelmusic
      @mountainlabelmusic 5 місяців тому

      If you watched my video all the way through, you would have noticed that I hate subscriptions and don't like paying for a software I own. I do agree on that. But the whole reason I bought the MBOX interface is because it comes with a perpetual license so I DON'T have to pay for updates. It's stable for my workflow, nothing wrong with the software, as long as I don't update my computer to a newer OS. On your note about customer service, I agree. Hence why I bought from Sweetwater. Way better customer support than Avid for sure. I think you can contact Sweetwater even if you didn't buy it from them, they are usually pretty good with that kind of thing. But also, when has Apple ever had good customer service with Logic? It seems like every new update there is a new bug added to the software. I'm sure that's with every software, but I don't think Apple's priority right now is their own DAW (but it should be).

      I've heard great things about both!! I still plan on using Logic very often for producing music. I've been eye balling learning to mix on Pro Tools for a while, just because everyone else uses it (and might give more opportunity with other professionals in the "Atmos game" since almost everyone else uses it for mixing). It's not too bad so far!! Very "focused" environment. Thanks for watching!!
