👍👍👍
Thnx
Whats the point of using all this confusing tool? You can just using one tool, either fredo corner or mindsight corner(i forgot the name) ...
Hi! Thanks for the comment. It's an attempt to create more realistic looking cushions. you can use the round corner tools for simple shapes, but they tend to be very hard looking. if you are rendering, then it's helpful to be able to make your cushions look softer and more organic. This is a simple cushion, but if you follow then next video (part 2) you'll see where you can start to add wrinkels and imperfections that make things look more real. Also, if you have any complex shapes to model, then learning the basics here will help with those in the future. Hope that helps!
Good job
Thanks

Jodi good afternoon, I would like to thank you for this tutorial which you drew at my request. My compliment for the clear explanation and reporting the various plugins you need for this. Kind regards from a loyal follower, Aad, Rotterdam from the Netherlands.
You’re welcome 😊
Very nice. I like your furniture modeling. I have SubD and Vertex Tools but maybe you may know to explain the extensions and how to work with them so I can understand how to use them better. I also have QuadFace Tools but only know the basics and dont know the full potential.
Thanks! I have a few videos that go into the basics of how to use those tools. good job thanks for share
Great video. Very helpful
Let me introduce myself, my name is Aad, I am now pre-retired and live in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Drawing with sketchup started as a hobby but is addictive. Now that I also want to draw furniture, I am stuck on not having sufficient knowledge of the program.
Jodi good morning, I am unable to send a message. I just wanted to thank you for your response, and I have a request. I would really appreciate it if you could help me draw a chapel chair. I have problems with the order and round shapes. This is a chair from the Bee's New World - Lunetten series. @jbartistrydesignsketchupskills
Hi Aad. I looked, but not sure which chair exactly you are looking at. Feel free to email a link to me at jodi@jbartistrydesign.com. And I’ll take a look. I’d be happy to put a video together for you, but it might be a few weeks before I get to it. I also have one-on-one tutoring that I do via Zoom. If you ‘d like to schedule something let me know, and I’ll send you a link.
I forgot to mention that I try to copy all your examples, some with success, others less so :-)
Thanks @luca-nd6pr! If there's something that you are struggling with, let me know! I'll try to make a video to help out.
Jodi good morning from the Netherlands, I tried to send a message but so far it hasn't worked. Thank you for your response, I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me with an example of a dining room chair. I am having trouble drawing these round shapes. I draw all your examples, some with success, others less so. The chair is called Bee's New World, Lunetten and you can find it at the following link.@@jbartistrydesignsketchupskills

Hello mam. Can we talk??
Thanks for your sharing .Great tutorial.I got problem of doing sofa stitching .Would you please have tutorial of this topic
Thanks for your comment! Sorry for the long delayed reply. When you say sofa stitching do you mean showing visible seams?
thanks for share your kind!
what plugin is the 10/11th down the quadface toolbar?
Hi @stevespicer5275. Sorry for the long delayed reply. That is a custom toolbar combining several extensions. The first 10 are from Quadface Tools, the next 6 are SubD tools and the rest are Vertex tools. I put this combination together because they are the ones I use the most and it keeps my work are clear of clutter. The extension used to make this is called Toolbar Editor
Hi! Thanks for the video. The build ends option is not working for me, do you know why this could happen? Thanks a lot!
Also, what is that tool you have of a white circle with red dots?
Do you mean the connect edges tool? This tool only works if you have more than two edges selected, and you have to make sure you click the check mark in the popup display box to apply any changes.
@@mariagalgiusiano6395 This is the show/hide hidden edges button from the toolbar "Mr. Hide". The other two buttons next to it are show/hide edges and show/hide profile edges.
Where did you get the image in the squares with red and green arrows? Can I find it somewhere? Thank you very much.
Hi Adrian. I made this texture in Photoshop. It's for sale on my webstore if you'd like to download it. www.jbartistrydesign.com/3d-model-store/p/uv-texture-map-for-sketchup

can you provide subd unlocked?
Not sure what you are asking? SubD is a paid extension. you can get a trial version - but then you must purchase it from the developer. evilsoftwareempire.com/subd
Great, thanks!
Awesome. Love your vids! Thank you!
thanks for share
👍
Is SubD necessary? Can you achieve the same result with chamfering edges?
For simple shapes you may be able to use round corner or other beveling tools, but you will quickly run into frustrations for any shapes that are more complex. Inside corners have a tendency to be especially hard for those kinds of tools
Thank you for another great video. This is advanced level stuff.
Thanks Jodi, very interesting to see how you use the tools..Merci Jodi, très intéressant de voir comment tu utilise les outils.
Thanks ma'am
nice work thanks for share
I can only wish be this good
Great, but we need more folds! Watched with pleasure)
If only there were some better tools in sketchup for creating them!
...prima!
this is super u r one of the best u r international😂
...sehr sehr gut! Thanks 😀
Great video! I got a question related to 7:26 - you mention that after subdividing you won't always end up with quads and therefore ThruPaint doesn't work. Can you elaborate on what happens? When you use SUbD the result is that the entire mesh is QuadFace Tools quads - they might not all be planar quads, but quad in the sense of how QFT, SUbD and Vertex Tools will understand. Is ThruPaint working only on planar quads? It doesn't understand QFT quads?
I'm not so sure that I can really explain it. I don't think it has so much to do with whether the quads are planar or not, but where corners are created (think of the 3 sides of the corner of a cube that all share a point), the quadmesh texturing doesn't seem to know what direction to run the texture, so it errors out and makes that part of the surface glow red. If you can isolate the corner out by forcing the edges to be un-soft in a way to avoid the problem area, the quadmesh texture will apply to that surface. It is a good tool for doing rounded shapes (like the curved back of a sofa) but you have to avoid including any 3 sided corners. Hopefully that explains it a bit.
I can confirm that Thrupaint works 100% fine on QFT non planar quads (tbh it works better with diagonals than it does without.) It just doesn't like poles in the topology (and it doesn't like actual tris or n-gons of course). If you really want to use it on meshes with poles, you should group it in patches without poles and texture those patches individually. That won't make any sense in most situation btw. Thrupaint quad method works fine on most arc/profile/sweep/loft stuff when you really want a pattern to follow along the flow of a loop/ring set. For complex/organic geometry with poles, a proper unwrap is the way to go. I strongly reccomend Wrap-R over Thrupaint for that kind of stuff.
Thanks so much Marcello. I guess what Im calling a corner is what you are calling a Pole? I'd love to try out Wrap-R, but it is not available for Mac, which is what Im using. A proper UV Unwrap tool for Sketchup would be life changing for me. My method works (usually) but its a lot of extra work involved that could be solved with UV Mapping.
Nice
This is exacly the type of videos I love watching! Subscribed immediately!
Im so glad you like it!
thanks for share that's helpful

Great video!! Thanks! This video and your others really help in understanding how to use QuadFace Tools, Vertex Tools and SubD. 🙂
Im so glad you liked it!
Wow! I love learning about creating your own furniture with these tools. I wish this video had spoken word on everthing youre doing. Nice job.
Thanks! I would have narrated but the real time modeling was close to 2 hrs.
nice work and thanks for share
Thanks!
Thank you for your skill show, hope you will make more new videos.
Thanks a lot! 👍
NICE WORK THANKS FOR SHARE LOOKING FOR PART 2
Thanks! I uploaded part 2 a few weeks ago!
Hey Jodi pretty nice Tutorial thanks so much, quick question, im trying to recreate this and the pleats in the middle don't stay in place like the ones you have there in the minute 1:34 mine just fall down and dont stay in place, maybe, I'm doing something wrong, thanks again for the video!
Thank you so much! Without seeing your file it's hard to say - my first guess would be that you did not sew the top edges of the panel to the frozen panel. the sections between the pleats need to be attached to the bottom of the frozen rectangle, and the pleats not attached so they can push forward. (1:24 is where I do this)
@@jbartistrydesignsketchupskills thanks so much, I'll try it and ill let you know here!!!
