I'm reviewing insulation videos again. My setup is usually pretty consistent, but earlier this month I went out with an insufficient setup. Your setup looks like, Superior insulated hammock + underquilt +weather shield + sock+top quilt +cocoon. What are the temp ratings and what temps are you sleeping in? With the Blackbird and the 0* Wookie I've slept fine to around 20*. On the last trip I tried using the Wookie with the Dutchware Cameleon and had cold spots and poor sleep in the 30s. Thanks for the video.
The hammock was the Superior 30F Elite with an XL, extra wide 10F Hammock Gear Incubator Underquilt situated below the Superior 30F. The Hammock Gear Underquilt Protector was around the setup, and the 30F Superior also had its own protector that happened to be snapped to it. There was a Dutchware Winter Sock I had on there too. The low was -9 F though it felt more like -4 F or so. I do nor think the extra pieces of nylon, like the protectors make much difference. The Hammock Sock: I thought the One Wind Sock (not pictured) worked well, but it had a little tear in its window. The Dutware one is easy to use, but I feel like it gets a bit more frosty inside, perhaps the tradeoff being more water resistance, but then again I thought I ordered the "breathable" version. Either way, I think that perhaps a regular mosquito net cuts the wind almost as good as the Sock, or I just flop a jacket over where my head is. I have yet to get those bigger hammocks, like in this video, really far out: they take up so much space. What tarp do you like to use?
Dutch Hammock with Wookie: I do not own a Wookie but have been keeping an eye out, however, the Dutch Hammock I have, the Half-Zipped, which to my knowledge ran a similar dimension to the slightly older Duch Chameleons--that Dutch Half-Zipped is one of the least comfortable hammocks I have & does not work well with almost any bottom quilts or pads, perhaps a waste of Hammock money. If you think that Chameleon might be an older version, I think Dutch ran too narrow of a Hammock then, and it did not work well with the net. I think Warbonnet got the design down with its foot box. The Blackbird XLC is probably the most comfortable Hammock I have, I just do not have a Wookie, and I really do not like the Hassel of tying out the shelves (maybe someday opt for an Eldorado). Sorry any bad typos & spelling: the autocorrect on this phone is terrible. Freaking thing does not know what a foot.box is.
Good vid. Thanks brother.
@@Brno67x for sure! Blessings!
Was that a double layer
@@georgerosado5194 the hammock has a couple layers built into it, then in this view I had a bottom quilt protector snapped to it.
You need an insulated tarp
I just ordered gt evolution. The sale is good now and I'm eager to try a cocoon / sleeping bag sewn in concept. Thanks for the info. I'm not too worried about the stitching given their warranty.
What waist size and how do they fit? Thanks.
Thanks for your videos. Can you elaborate on the zipper blemish? Wondering if you think it was worth the discount you were able to get? Any regrets buying with the blemish / this issue?
Here's my concern with the gatewood cape, lanshan, lunar solo, and other ones the same shape. If you are setting up in a storm, how in God's name do you have space to dry off your wet ass and set up your inner and sleep system without getting everything wet in such a small vestibule? A the pyramid style allows for that but it's less compact. I wish i had a cape to try.
Hi- have you tried the Dutch quilted chameleon? I’m debating between it and the superior
Curious myself. Silnylon or Silpoly?
@@AquaTech225 sil nylon: it does absorb water & get heavier, but the overall performance is well.
Lol Cool save money
Are you still alive? I dont think those were oysters.
So, after a year, how has the Evolution held up for you? I have a couple of them and they have actually held up well for me at 260lbs+. I pair mine with the Mozzy 360 bugtent or the Onewind Windsock as necessary. I may upgrade to Dutch or Superior sometime, but for now, its working great for me.
It's late july, and I'm about to head to the boundary waters. I might consider getting the cocoon, but buying a separate full bug net that can go over the whole superiorgear hammock.
google lens is kinda handy for identifying stuff...
Is the nemo as warm as the thermarest? And is it much quieter too?
Bear head State Park Road they have cheap camping and hot showers there.
Thanks: I will go with Golden Oysters. Maybe as good to eat as Rocky Mountain Oysters. I have yet to taste either. On the list. Anything with bacon, eh.
Thank you. Always fun to find things in the creek. I have met some people who have quite the eye for them. I Always try to imagine what the area may have looked like several hundred or thousand years ago.
Interesting so much I subbed
Hey i just purchased a old stumpjumper pro frame, need wheels seat, brakes and pedals. It’s a m4 and some 100mm forks, what size tires can i use
Nice! The 26" frame I have can run rear 27.5 × 2 tires...no problemo. The front is a 27.5 fork, so I cannot say for a 26" fork, though the 27.5 wheels only seem mildly taller than the 26". The 27.5 wheels I have roll pretty nice, but I do see how, say at Wal-Mart or wherever bikepacking on the fly, that 26" is still the most common size.
That's a really cool find.
Love that place, their breakfast pizza is good
There are plant identification apps that you can just take a picture and get immediate identification.
Looks like the golden oysters. The best mushrooms I've ever eaten.
not good with shrooms , but I think they are golden oysters
Ya’ talk funny.
hey friend, I just bought that frame, seller did not include the headset, so you are using the 110 with the integrated cups in the head tube right?
Oh yeah!
The shimano deore groupsets are good for the price. bullet proof. I'm to old and lazy to run giant chainrings anymore. LOL
Been thru hiking with mine for about a month now, really like it. However its annoying to put back in the stuff sack. They could have made the stuff sack slightly larger. Don't have the mummy version though so you might not have that problem. Already got down to around 15F ontop of a mountain with it.
It's tight. I sent Nemo some remarks to open the mouth of the pump sack a little bigger so the pad rolled in half can fit easy. The First Lite did fit easy in its bag. The Nemo Bikepack Tent I tried would not fit back in its bag easy, but the Hornet did. One would think getting the bag right would be easy.
No one produces an appropriate bag, like never. The best that can happen to you, is having a old bag, that is slightly larger, because the old thing the bag was for, was much larger and also wasn't fit🤗
Is there plenty of shoulder room without tie outs like a Blackbird XLC or Simply Light Trail Lair?
@@TheOlsonOutfit I wonder if the outs make more shoulder room? I have never used them. I feel like the Blackbird XLC might be very slightly more comfortable, but they are very close: however I rarely tie off the XLC.
@livinlarge1247 So I've taken mine down to 18 without an issue, but you do want to make sure the down is distributed along the baffle. You can just brush the down with your hand from one side to the other. Shug has a video where he shows this, which is where I picked up on the trick. edit: You can get it suuuper warm if you distribute the down asymetrically on your lay- head right feet left or feet left head right, but shouldn't need to do all that.
@@paulkhanna1 thank you. I have been working a couple Superiors. Hope to tweak them nice.
I have the extreme conditions pad and really like it

Nice! Nice Amigo! Pip..pshhhtt.
Lookin' gpod amigo.
I added a secondary suspension to my HT UQ’s to adjust it up and down the primary, hold an offset diagonal lay, and it helps to keep it from sagging. Very nice $5 mod.
Nice!
dealee bobs, I use them in the canoe to strap stuff down
gossamer gear - bottle rocket may work for you too.
That one looks pretty roomy. good to see you out there keeping up the good fight.
Yep. Slightly too roomy, but its extra room made for a great fit sliding in an extra quilt for the real cold. I should "buy once cry once" for the -20 high-end sleeping bag, but "buy once, cry once" rarely seems to work anyway: Something better comes along. Thanks.
Great video!! Nice job
Nice Amigo! Go get em'!

bacon and eggs. sounds like a plan. I would expect there to be caves around there, from the looks of of the limestone and sandstone formations.
