Having taught college, I will say it depends on your major. STEM majors that get you job in engineering, or Med or law school are fine. Majors in the social sciences tend to be a waste of time

The problem with a college education is it doesnt gaurantee you a job. It puts you into significant debt with no gaurantees of getting out because even though you have a college education jobs are still looking for experience

You take the basics to build a foundation for the classes in your major. You can’t go straight into Biochemistry without knowing General Chemistry. Also welding is a trade, not an undergraduate degree program.
