the driver isn't allowing me to install it... keeps saying has no release file...! Please help
@Whiskey Error Correction - and how to install drivers for Windows 10 for this card ?
I'm not as skilled with Linux, but pretty sure I can get through this for a 12x. Once you did this, you're saying you didn't have to pay HiveOS for each unit? Also what miner are you running / coin mining? You may inadvertently end up a low key UA-camr like Red Panda Mining lol.
>UA-camr like Red Panda Mining Haha ty man. Sorry for the late reply you can certainly do this on a 12x. The worst part is being limited by the USB transfer speed. I will forewarn you I have since found that these cards are super unstable and have had 2 fail. Highly recommend upgrading fans if you go with the ASUS system. I personally rented the hashpower on MiningRigRentals. XMR (RandomX) for CPU and RVN (Kawpow) for GPU. If you have any video suggestions feel free to drop em I may put some more effort into this channel after the warm reception on this video.
@@WhiskeyFEC I bought 4x of the 12x gpu rigs. I'll have some 128gb NVME's that are going on them. I keep hearing they're unstable which is concerning because I want to host them. I'm hosting these somewhere with low electric that has a few of these rigs there already. I'd be looking at some sort of ProgPow algorithm from MEWC and Telestai. Solid projects! Any sort of tweaking and tuning you can do with these would be good videos. PC Server Parts is selling these for bonkers cheap prices and offering RPM discount codes. Make videos! I might make an IceRiver RXO video when mine get here....
so it should be decent as some pretty powerfull server for ai stuff
Certainly capable of being used as blade servers. I haven’t tried any AI stuff, but they shouldn’t be to hard to test Auto1111 with. I’d imagine they’d perform close to a 1070ti
Great info, thanks for publishing. I have a request, can you possibly make a video on how to manage memory ratio and overclock the BC-250?
Hi, is there a windows driver for the BC-250? Thank you
Truly, truly good work sir. Offer on the table, I’ll pay you a $500 bounty if you can get Chimera OS or any Steam/Steamdeck OS variant working with drivers and publish a video. I tried so many times and it is beyond my skill level. I’m a network architect and this is a just a hobby for me, and even my Linux skills are pretty unspectacular. If it’s a *LOT* of effort and not worth the paltry sum I’m offering, I totally understand as well. But perhaps we can crowdfund more if you are truly interested and consider yourself capable of finding a way to do it. My logic is that if we can get the AMD drivers working enough to do compute tasks such as mining, perhaps there is a way to shoehorn an existing driver or make a “franken-driver” that gets the job done. Again, amazing work here man, I fully comprehend the amount of work you put into getting this far. Thank you for your contribution, and thank you for making it all public knowledge. It reflects nicely on your character.
I'll add in another $500! I really want to see if someone can get Vulkan working on them. According to some researchers the units aren't capable of DirectX due to physically lacking certain hardware. If we could get DXVK or something similar working these could potentially be incredible value for homelabs and micro-gaming rigs.
@@zuexs690 yes sir, you get what what I’m going for! Haha. Chimera OS with Vulkan could be a good compromise. What were you referring to regarding direct x? I’ll have to look that up. Sounds like another roadblock.
Oh man I like the idea I recently took my rig offline so the cards aren't doing anything. When I get some free time I'll pull one to bring to work and see if I can manage to make any progress on this. Seems like a lot of people are interested in turning these misfit cards into the gaming machines they were intended to be.
@@WhiskeyFEC YES
@@WhiskeyFEC Did you get a chance to take a crack at it?
thank you for tis video! I just ordered a 12 box today. hopefully this can keep my HIVEOS price down
if you got a 12x rig I would recommend upgrading to a more efficient PSU
I cant seem to get video out on the ubuntu installer, when i install steamOS i dont get video after installing(video during install works fine) Windows will install but drivers failed with error 43 and windows disables the device.
SteamOS might automatically be trying to install a different video driver that is not compatible with the BC-250. Can you SSH in? If you can I would try to see if it installed any videos drivers automatically and remove those. Then install the drivers I put in the description. Just pure speculation though. I hope you get it! If you do please let me know what you did.
@@WhiskeyFECDo you still have yours? Can you see if you get any 3D acceleration on the GPU? Jeff over at craft computing put up a video today about his troubles getting any 3D acceleration after driver install.
@@denvera1g1I do, but I use mine for mining crypto so I don't need any acceleration. I do have to reinstall one since the USB I used was cheap. If I get some free time when fixing it I will see what I can figure out.
Thank you so much for this! You're a gentleman & a scholar. I'd love to connect offline. Everything seemed to go smooth until the last command; results in an error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Help?
typically error 1 is going to be a dpkg dependency issue try this first: sudo dpkg --configure -a sudo apt upgrade sudo apt autoremove sudo apt clean try this second: sudo apt install -f If you still have trouble with that let me know. Also you want to make sure you're on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and not 22.02 the kernal update in 22.02 has bugs AMD has not fixed in this specific driver (may be fixed in newer versions, but I have not tested them) when I uploaded this the current drivers were not working still.
Ik on 20.04 lts. Tried both fixed and same error
Great Video, Where you able to apply OC to the Cards? i have been trying to figure out but can't seem to find a way.
That is one thing I have not tried. I asked one guy who had and he never responded. The cards aren’t the most stable so it would be minor adjustments if you did. I’d be more interested in figuring out how to reduce their power draw. Please let me know if you have any success with it, next time I take them offline for maintenance I am going to look into that.
Thanks for the info. I've been waiting for tutorial like this...I can't even tell you how many hours I've spent on these things. Appreciate it!!!
This is exactly why I decided to make it, I'm glad you found it useful!
Would this work under ubuntu non server? I have one bc-250 that I want to mess with for some light game testing. and have been running into the no gpu ecceleration.
You should be able to use a normal Ubuntu desktop install as long as you are on the 20.04 LTS release and not 22.04. I am not sure how these cards would perform for gaming, but you will likely need other parts of the driver installed that are not included in my amdgpu-install command. I believe you would at the very least need to add --vulkan=amdvlk to the command. You can attempt it with just opencl as IIRC it should be able to work without it, but I could see issues arising with certain games.
I would definitely install clinfo so that you can check if it is detecting the cards after install Number of platforms 1 Platform Name AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing Platform Vendor Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. I am on week three of torturing myself. Thank you for the direction!@@WhiskeyFEC
Important: I have not figured out why yet, but if you want to use AwesomeMiner (linux agent) with this specific setup it breaks network connectivity within 2 minutes of being setup. Not sure if this is a issue with other configurations. Figured I would mention it to try and save others some trouble. I use MobaXterm multiexec mode to be able to manage the 12 I have. If you have any information you would like to add feel free to comment I won't delete it
Hello there, I am getting an error with amdgpu-dkms have a status 10 error, and then an error 1
@dwoodurff9186 Error code 10 and 1 are a dpkg errors caused by dependency issues. If you are running a newer version of Ubuntu such as 22.04 I know that there are known issues with the AMD gpu drivers which may or may not be fixed with a newer version of the drivers (which may not work with these cards and the issue was still present as of January) I recommend trying to downgrade to older linux modules first sudo apt install linux-image-5.4.0-54-generic linux-headers-5.4.0-54-generic linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-54-generic sudo reboot sudo apt remove linux-image-5.4.0-56-generic linux-image-unsigned-5.4.0-56-generic sudo apt autoremove if this does not work and you are running 22.04 I would reinstall OS with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. If you are already on 20.04 and using a USB it might be worth trying to reinstall on a different USB I had a few of my cheap ones that kept corrupting root filesystem data.
I still have to use the nomodeset in grub edit to boot into desktop, safe graphics mode works also but my understanding is it's basically the same thing.
@dwoodurff9186 -to clarify are you talking about the version of Ubuntu? I could not for the life of me get these cards to work on 22.04. To my knowledge there is still issues with AMD gpus on linux kernal 5.15 (for 22.04) where as 20.04 is still on kernal 5.13.- Sorry I think I just misunderstood your message. It seems like its able to use the APU for processing, but I bet you won't be able to fully utilize the graphics. Can you install clinfo and provide me what is being detected.

When removing () it still does not download the drive in hiveos
Nice catch brother man! My apologies I didn't realize I cut off part of the url. I hope you were able to still get through it using the video, but if not I have updated the URL, thanks for letting me know! wget repo.radeon.com/amdgpu-install/21.50/ubuntu/focal/amdgpu-install_21.50.50000-1_all.deb
Beautiful video bro. I just don’t see being able to doing this on a 100+s cards. 😅😅
Doing 12 was certainly a slog, but it's better than paying Hiveon $36 a month lol
