So I Inventoried My Games
Was this a good idea? Maybe. I like having everything I have access to listed out in one location. Was it a pain in the butt? Absolutely. Why did I not start doing this, like, two console generations ago, when it was manageable and just keep up with it? I really goobered myself with this one. But now it's done and I'm going to talk about it, along with some of my more notable acquisitions and some of the reasons I even picked these consoles up. Dear lord, I needed to get some much footage for this... I should have just slammed through the Mega Man review.

Why is Sonic Still Popular?
Переглядів 428День тому
Is the title a bit much? Maybe, but I'm just taking what someone else asked and running with it, so you can't get mad at me. Still, though, I do find myself wondering sometimes why I don't wait on the reviews for Sonic games more or, in some cases, still pick up the latest game even with questionable scores. So I'm going to give him a once over and try to pin down just what makes him so appeali...
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards- Go for Combos

I really liked this game as a kid, but I also had terrible taste back then. Time to give my younger self an audit and see if this one still holds up. The goal for this one is to not just beat the game, but fell the secret, final boss as well and, for thoroughness's sake, I'll also cover the minigames in my review. Most important of all, though, I gotta focus on those power combinations, since t...
Are Lives Necessary?
Переглядів 3,4 тис.21 день тому
Let's finish one of my previous thoughts: Does having only so many lives to complete a level actually add anything to the experience or is it just padding? I play a lot of games, so I have a lot of thoughts, so let's start off with a basic explanation of what I'm talking about and then maybe brain storm some alternatives, before coming to a conclusion, or at least what my opinion is. Also, for ...
Mega Man IV- Big Effort
Переглядів 300Місяць тому
This is the last game to follow the typical Rockman World formula and it feels like Minakuchi really put a lot into it. Not only does it add in elements that Capcom seemed to think were good enough to keep for mainline, but it has a lot more new content and some pretty impressive pixel work for big scenes. Of course, it's still on the Gameboy, which comes with certain limitations and it's still...
Street Fighter x Mega Man- The Celebration Begins

This was originally a fangame that Capcom then published as a freebie to promote the 25th anniversary of both franchises, which was pretty neat. I think that's more than Mega Man got for his 35th... And despite Street Fighter getting top billing, the game's actually a Mega Man style platformer, so I actually have a chance. While I don't think this is the most beloved Mega Man title, not even th...
My Memories of the Gamecube

There was a kerfuffle over on Twitter where someone called the Gamecube a massive failure and I left a response. I then realized I had more to say than the character limit would allow, so I'm doing a video on it. As someone who had a Gamecube at launch and cites the console as a personal favorite, I have a lot of memories of the little black box and the games that were on it. I also remember wh...
Mega Man's Recurring Hazards

There's a lot of tropes that the Mega Man series has introduced and then brought back, again and again. Some of these are great, others are sources of frustration, but I think a lot of them can vary from instance to instance, person to person. I myself am actually a fan of a lot of them, so after taking a look at what some others take issue with, I've picked out five to go over and discuss when...
Random Mega Man News

I have been just having an off week, so I ran out of time for my planned video. Luckily, Capcom has been dropping some surprises and Comicon's been making some announcements, both of which can be turned back to Mega Man, so here we go, an unscripted, unprofessional video where I talk about them, while hopefully adding enough of my own thoughts and insights that it doesn't come off as me just re...
Mega Man III- Back to Minakuchi

Third Gameboy title and we're back with the company the handled the first one, Minakuchi Engineering. They definitely had a better handle on things than Biox, so I approve... or maybe not, since I do have some beef with this game. But we're getting ahead of ourselves, this one pulls from Mega Man 3 and 4, giving you the charge shot and Eddie, the first of which is a real game changer. It's also...

Guts Man might be a little awkward to use, but that just means it'll be even more impressive when we manage to win. And we will win. I'm determined to beat this game with everyone... except for maybe Oil Man. I was saving this script for a rainy day and then I didn't give myself enough time to do the Mega Man III video I was planning instead. But oh well, I like Mario why not talk about one of his games for once? I played this recently, doing a few runs, so I think I'm qualified. I also came to the decision of listing all of the games I own a few months ago and I dread whatever I think of the Switch. I have brought so much for it both physically and digitally. My backlog is ridiculous, there are games I stopped playing because of variety of reasons (some which I am not planning to continue). And then there are games I bought because I felt I needed to because I am was interested and maybe will play them one day. And others I owned digitally because I wanted to play them at the time (and many I did play them at the time) but eventually got released physically and I wanted to have one copy for preservation such as the Limited Run releases. I have slowed down on the videogame buying spree because I realized I am simply not playing most of what I am paying for and I just don't have much time nowadays, so auditing my games will come in handy in order to determine what I want to keep and what I want to sell.

Yes, I'm commenting _yet again._ I notice there's no _Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics_ on your Switch list. Just curious if you're skipping it, waiting for the physical release, getting it on something else, etc. I have to remind myself that not everyone is obsessed like myself. XD Oh, and to avoid a _fourth_ comment, *I remember the eReader.* Used to have one, because I not only loved my GBA but - as mentioned elsewhere - was a big Pokémon TCG player. The last three Wizards of the Coast released sets were the e-card series, so there are some minigames you can play by scanning the correct series of cards. Which ExploDjinn probably knows already, as at least my copy of the eReader came with the necessary Machop, Machoke, and Machamp cards to scan for one such minigame. Foil cards don't have scannable code, and the first few Nintendo released sets have dot code for Pokédex entries but *not* for games or other programs.

It's on my wishlist. Might wait for it to go on sale, might wait for a physical, though I was kind of surprised by it's price tag, so I've held off thus far. Still, since my 360 is refusing to play my MvC2 disc, I'm a bit more tempted now than I was. Also glad to see someone else had an e-Reader.

@@ExploDjinn Makes sense. Again, me dropping full price for a brand new game hasn't happened since... 2009 (maybe 2008 3pr even 2007). Saved for 3 months since I don't have that much discretionary income. I still have a Dreamcast copy of MvC2 somewhere *but* it stopped working 15-20 years ago. Finally realized it was "disc rot". Holding it up to the light I could see little pinholes of light coming through the plastic where I ought not to. The eReader was a good idea, dubious execution. Needing a peripheral *and* GBA turned a lot of folks off.

  • @KamisamanoOtaku
    @KamisamanoOtaku 4 дні тому

@15:23 Since it was part of the B roll, I have to shout out _Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge._ Sometimes, I think I'm the only one who liked this game. It is weird, being _kind of like_ a TCG in that you create a layout of "Chips" your Navi automatically uses during the battle. And I mean their *entire* action is that Chip; if you left out all your chips, the only thing they'd do is their basic attack that is represented by their Navi Chip. *On the plus side,* you have six Net Op/Navi pairings from which to choose *and* NetNavi chips in this game let you overwrite your current Navi to _become_ the one on the chip. So even if you decide to play as (for example) Dex and GutsMan, you can eventually unlock the Navi Chips for almost every Navi that appears in the first three Battle Network games on the GBA and run them.

  • @KamisamanoOtaku
    @KamisamanoOtaku 4 дні тому

I keep missing the time stamp for it, but *about the Pokémon Trading Card Game* you _might_ want to save that spare copy. Why? The _short_ version is that the game is really great *if everyone agrees to **_not_** run Energy Removal and Super Energy Removal.* Which the computer cannot agree to, though it is often bad enough at the game you can still enjoy playing a variety of decks competitively against it. XD If ExploDjinn isn't too attached to it, maybe he should consider doing a Giveaway for his channel? Assuming UA-cam doesn't make it a massive hassle. Yeah, I want the game but I can't justify spending the money on it right now. XD

@13:28 *The Virtual Boy's detrimental effects are greatly exaggerated.* No, _not_ for ExploDjinn; if he says he gets headaches from he, I totally believe him. Same thing happened to my best friend as when - back when the VB was new - I let him borrow mine for a weekend. *Then what am I on about?* The _short_ version is that the now *standard* video game warnings for stuff like eye strain, epilepsy, etc. became a legal requirement shortly before the VB launched, and there was some legitimate risk to very young players' eye development. *It blew up in the media.* Didn't help that, Nintendo being so scared of lawsuits, themselves plastered the VB with warnings, included the forced timeout feature, etc. I don't want anyone interested in it to be scared away. Unless you already know that this kind of thing can be a problem, in which case, don't chance it! Though I *do* encourage folks to ignore the stand that comes with it. Unless you're _just_ the right height, it'll be too tall or small for you and give you a neckache. I started just playing while lying face up on my bed, originally using the stand to help hold the unit in position. The stand eventually broke (don't know if it was related), but I was still able to play this way. Might have used a pillow to help hold the VB in place. As you can tell, I really loved my Virtual Boy and am sad I sold it off when I had to liquidate nearly all of my video game collection due to a combination of financial and personal issues.

i do know a way to manipulate the X-hunters, but it is quite tedious. All you have to do is revisit a stage you've already beaten, then return to the stage select. Every time you do this, the X-hunters will go to different stages. The only problems is that depending on your luck, it can take a while but it does work.

X2, on the first playthrough, is the best game, but after you master it, it's kind of dull, which is unfortunate b/c it used to be my favorite. The X-Hunters will disappear if you go to the stage they are in and beat it without beating them in the stage, and that's why they are disappearing. Hope this helps. X3 is incredible, and has grown on me a lot over the years. It's that X game that's hard to figure out where everything is in, but when you do, there is so much to do. You can kill Bit/Byte or both of them, and get 3 different textboxes on Bit/Byte combo boss depending on if Bit, Byte, or both are alive. If you kill them both during the 8 mav stages, you get a new boss to fight, though I prefer B/B v2. I think he's called Godkarmachine-Oriny or something weird like that. Then Vile you can kill in the mav stages, and if you don't you fight him in his most powerful ride armor ever, showing an exponential increase in X's power over the years. Plus, it's the only clue as to when MMX3 takes place, as X tells Vile "Zero and I destroyed you years ago, indicating a passage of time since X1/X2. X2 feels like a backup plan of SIgmas if he failed in X1. Like the X-Hunters where there all along. And then there's the Gold Armor and the Z-Sabre, which I didn't find til like 15 years after I first beat it! I love secrets like that! X4 is cool, but it's too short IMO I beat both campaigns in one day about a week ago. X1 is my favorite, honestly. It was the game on the back of my SNES system box in the 90s and will always hold a special place in my heart. X5 is an epic story but the gameplay is kind of lacking. X6 I actually do like. It is the last one in my own personal head canon if it weren't rushed it would have been better, but if you go to X Maverickhunter 's youtube channel, he can beat the entire game without taking damage. It's sick and I recommend you check it out.

I think that overall, X2 is the best of the SNES trilogy. X1 is great, but the upgrades seem a little basic compared to later games, you don't start with the dash and the game forces you to get the foot parts AND it strongly encourages you to go after chill penguin first. The dash is too central to the gameplay that it feels weird not to have it, and having something influencing your boss route kinda undermines the whole do the stages in any order idea. X3 I also love very much, but that game is significantly less polished than the other two. For those reasons X2 kinda wins by default for me.

@@ExploDjinn I love how if you look closely at Shiver Star, you can tell it's Earth. I also love the theory that it's a post-apocalypse.

Heat Man has a challenging stage and a rough fight. As far as bosses from 2, I would double down on Bubble Man. He's dummy easy, his weapon is garbage, and he is just green mega man.

I'm not entirely sure if this'll help, but here's my idea. You can't get a Game Over from dying over n' over, you'll just warp back to your last checkpoint (visible or not). BUT! Extra lives stocked up can let you continue INSTANTLY from where you died, and you can earn/find more to cushion your room for error (and boost your ego for how LITTLE you died). Thoughts?

Kirby is an odd title. Even as a kid playing the game boy and Nintendo iterations, I don’t recall having much difficulty. But despite being easy, they were always a lot of fun. I think it’s because of all of the play style options. Wanna use a sword? Slash it up! Wanna shoot lasers? Do it! Wanna be a ufo? Tricky, but the option is there! You can even be a revving wheel of mayhem and destruction.

Gameplay definitely comes first. Plenty of tough games I like, and plenty of easy ones as well, they just need to be fun.

Zero-two is like the progenitor of dark matter, Kirby's Nemesis at the time, but defying death. This game is alright. Some rough edges, but the series has seen some low lows like Kirby 3D on 3DS

Ultimately it depends on the game, but the main issue is the possibility space. If the game is more of a sandbox with wide variety strategies or routes I don't mind the idea of infinite lives, but when problems are more rigid and require specific solutions (i.e most platformers) I think lives are a great way to gauge whether or not the challenge is fun or fair in the first place. Might be a hot take but I think the lenience in newer platformers like Celeste and Pizza Tower is poor design. If you're including the B and C sides more than half of Celeste is simply unreasonable for most players to clear. It's not that you missed out on a lesson or you need to try something different, the game actually expects you to nail several absurdly precise jumps in a row. It may be less punishing but that doesn't mean it's fun or fair for most players. Pizza Tower has the same issue in a different way. The thing about ranking systems is that they still ask demand mastery, just in a less direct way. If you never lose a life and get sent back to a checkpoint you never really get to improve on the segments you messed up on. I get that you're not expected to get a Perfect run on your first try. in fact you can't even attempt lap 2 on your first try, so it's outright impossible. But I think the game could benefit some punishments to prevent players from getting through levels without really learning anything. If you're getting D ranks you'd probably be better off replaying older stages anyway rather than face tanking through newer ones. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying lives are an unmitigated good, but the idea that they're outdated is just odd to me. You never hear people saying health bars are outdated and they're essentially the same concept with a different coat of paint.
