The home for all of the Love, Colin recordings, videos and tributes.
Colin Vearncombe, aka Black wrote more than 150 songs and released twenty-one albums over a thirty-five year recording career. He said that ‘some songs took five minutes, some songs took years, and some remained forever elusive’. However long they took to write, the fans know there are hidden treasures in Colin’s catalogue. So much so, that when the Black mailing list was balloted to select their most loved recordings for Any Colour You Like, the initial ‘must include’ shortlist comprised over seventy songs !
We know that many artists have great respect and affection for Colin’s work so we’ve created a platform to celebrate his songs as recorded and interpreted by others. It’s called ‘Love, Colin’ and the first of the recordings are here:

'Saol Iontach' (Wonderful Life) - [Dogtail Soup featuring Roisín Little]
'Saol Iontach' (Wonderful Life) - [Dogtail Soup featuring Roisín Little]
Wonderful LIfe is Colin's most successful song, originally released in 1987 on his debut album of the same name. Released as a single twice it became a hit on it's second outing going on to become a top ten hit in world wide..
At the beginning of this project it was decided we would not ask anyone to cover this particular song as there are many beautiful versions of it recorded down through the years. Then along came Roisín Little. Roisín is the niece of Interference front man Fergus O'Farrell and a fluent Irish speaker. This is 'Wonderful Life' as gaeilge. Roisín has previously performed Fergus' song 'Gold' in Irish at several Interference shows where Glen Hansard has stepped in for Fergus in his absence. Roisín is an assistant director in the film world currently plying her trade on the London theater scene. Though not a professional singer, we feel this is a very special re-imagination of one of the most famous songs in the world.
This recording features Roisín Little (vocals), Paul Tiernan (acoustic guitar), James O'Leary (electric guitar), Maurice Seezer (piano) and John Fitzgerald (bass guitar)
Saol Iontach (Wonderful Life)
(written by Colin Vearncombe & Roisín Little)
Is Saol Iontach é
(véarsa a haon)
Seo linn, chun an Fharraige,
An ghrian ard sa spéir,
Brionglóidí linn san aer.
Sciathán na héan, is no shúile geal,
Níl sé ceart nó cóir,
Ach Is dríocht a stóir.
(réamh curfa)
Táim i m’aonair
Gan chara liom anseo
Ag seasamh sa solas geal.
(curfa)
Imithe uait, ar strae
Oh is saol iontach x2 é
Ná bíodh brón ort, ceartigh é
Oh is saol iontach x2 é
(véarsa a dó)
Solas i shúil, teas ar do ghruaigh
Is fuath leo é a stóir,
Mar níl tú ‘maith go lóir’
(reamh versa)
Tá chara uaim, oh tá chara uaim.
Tabhair leat do síocháin.
Táim ag seasamh beag anseo.
Táim i m’aonair
Gan chara liom anseo
Ag seasamh sa solas geal.
Imithe uait, ar strae
Oh is saol iontach x2 é
Ná bíodh brón ort, ceartigh é
Oh is saol iontach x2 é
(Réamh Versa)
(Réamh Curfa)
(Curfa x 2)
Oh is saol íontach x2 é
Oh is saol íontach x2 é
Recorded by Dave O'Brien in Lettercollum Recording Studio, Timmoleague, Cork and mixed by John Fitzgerald. Mastered by Andy Patterson.
